Nice. - Somewhere between when I booked the room and before the trip began we decided to make a mad dash to Budapest. So, we wouldnt be checking into the room until a day later. Now you know Hotwire is final sale, and a hotel can mark you no show. Spoke with management and they held the room for us. Thankfully. - The hotel is in a nice area. Near the Opera, Museum, and Wenceslas Square. There are a ton of restaurants, bars, and shopping nearby. - Also, a very good laundry within walking distance. After being in Europe for almost 3 weeks I needed to wash. They do it for you. Boom, amazing. - The hotel rating is a European 4 star, not American. So, dont expect grandeur. - The hotel is beautiful. Vintage charm. Great restaurant and bar area. - The room was just ok. We had s standard room nothing special. Good for 4 nights. The porter greeted us right away with a smile. Check in was friendly.....enough. Got into the elevator and it was showing it's age. Not a problem, it's to be expected (1927). So, the room. Not what we expected. Sub par at best. Old furniture (not the antique kind of old), dated. Stained carpet and sitting stool at end of bed. There is a basic wood plank that separates the rooms on the floor that is raised with no real incline. Watch your step is all I can say. Ouch. The shower is painfully small w/no tub. New marble it appears. Bed is one of those twin bed separations with 2 single size blankets. If you are a couple, forget it. Not a comfortable mattress. Didn't spend much time in the room, which is a good thing. Went to the Lounge the next morning before we left to have a coffee. Staff not the most friendly. Felt as if we were an annoyance. Not a smile. Had a look in the dining room. Looked lovely. Didn't have food so can't comment. If the hotel would get rid of the faded looking red/pink table cloth overlay and just leave white only table cloths it would be gorgeous. It is a really nice room, as was the Lounge. Since it's quite large with high quality and good value, it seems popular with tour bus groups. Overall, the hotel was good, with comfortable rooms, delicious breakfast, and service all living up to the 4-star standard in Prague. The lobby over the top with modern luxury, Mozart-themed decor. Two issues kept me from giving it 4 stars here however. One is that the Wi-Fi was poor. Just basic emails and searching led to issues more often than not, on multiple devices, and in both my room & the lobby. The other issue was that while many hotels in Prague state their price in EUR but charge in CZK, every hotel I've stayed in the past have used a reasonable exchange rate; this hotel used a rate marked up by over 5%, a sneaky way to add extra cost.

Design Hotel Elephant calls itself a four-star hotel, but with the obvious attitude of 'If we throw some marble tiles on the walls, put in a crappy restaurant with a picture of a dedicated chef, and come up with a strange name, that should get us what we need to add a star.' Essentially, it's a picture of nice without actually being that nice. The most telling evidence for my case is the toiletries in the room, or lack thereof. They've mounted large bottles of hand wash next to the sink, and combined body/hair wash in the shower. Of every option to save money, they chose to not provide guests with appropriate in-rom amenities. In different terms, they chose to directly impact every guest rather than employing a cost-saving option which might impact fewer guests, meaning this option serves as an overall indicator of the hotel's approach. The oft-praised breakfast is good, but a bit oversold by reviewers across the Internet. There's an omelette station, sure, and good luck getting to it. In three mornings I didn't have the patience to stand in line and settled for the scrambled eggs on the bar, which were far from great and often hardly even warm. The bacon, however, is delicious. Additionally, there's a selection of cheeses, and the pastry selection changed daily. To cap it off, there's quite the eclectic piano player who plays everything from Chopin to P!nk. Highlights: A great rendition of Smoke on the Water, and an absolutely enchanting arrangement of Adele's Skyfall. Unfortunately, the cavernous echo of the room drowns it out a bit, especially when a Brazilian tour group is allowed to blow rape whistles in the lobby over a period of about 15 minutes to round up the herd for the day's touring. Yup. Ultimately, the hotel was clean, provided a comfortable bed, functional in-room air conditioning, and the staff was all friendly and very well trained, so I can't knock it too much. But be warned, it isn't want the discerning guest might expect. It was fine, and that's it. I wouldn't stay here again. Given this hotel shares a lobby with it's "five-star" sister the Grandior hotel run by the same hotel conglomerate, I wouldn't recommend that one, either.

We stayed in this Hotel as part of our 4-Day trip to Prague in November 2011…read more The location itself is perfect to start of sightseeing early in the day as it is situated in the old town of Prague and most sights (Wenceslar square, old market place, powder tower, charles bridge etc.) can be reached on foot within just 30 minutes. We stayed in a standard double-bed room for the trip and were quite satisfied. Te beds were nice and comfy, although the matresses were a bit too soft for my taste. Bathroom quality was pretty decent. Large shower and tub, oversized mirrors and generally very clean. From the floor to the ceiling everything was made out of marble. Breakfast times were from 7-10 am whereas the room for having it is situated in the basement of the building. We found the breakfast menu to be quite minimalistic. For those bun-lovers amongst you: prepare to shift to something else as everything they were offering was bread. Hot beverages were alright, cold drinks however we wouldn't recommend as for example the orange juice was just water with syrup mixed in. Underneath the hotel runs a passage where you can find nice bistros, a casino and a dayspa. The staff was generally friendly, accomodating and fluent in English. The only thing that should be mentioned negatively is the close proximity to a nearby police station, which means that you can hear police cars take off noisily with sirens turned on and everything almost every 10-15 minutes. After about the second night we got used to it though and it didn't really seem like a problem anymore. If you plan on travelling to Prague with your own car I highly recommend the parking service across the street, where you can park your car for 10 days for about 50 EUR. If we ever wanted to visit Prague again, we would certainly come back to this place.

The elevators could definitely use some attention and feel like they are overdue for repairs or modernization. !!!The customer service, however, was excellent. A special thank you to Miss Ekaterina at the reception desk for making both check-in and check-out smooth and easy, as well as recommending some beautiful places to visit around Prague. Also, Svetlana in the restaurant provided awesome service and was very pleasant and attentive. The hotel has a lot of character and a great location. Definitely will come back and stay here longer...3 nights are not long enough.

The breakfast array was nice, with a selection of coffee, juice, meats, eggs, toast, cereal, yogurts (etc), and had decently long hours, approx 7-10 or 10:30. It was also in a good location, just far enough away to be quiet, but only a 1/3 mile (1/2 km) walk to a big shopping area with restaurants and a giant Tesco. It was also only a £2-4 ($3-5) Uber ride away from the Old Town and castle, though there is also public transportation nearby if preferred.

I would definitely stay here again while visiting Prague!
