The size of our double room was somewhat compact, but because of its layout felt fairly spacious. The bathroom-wardrobe-bed-desk area was at the end of a fairly long hallway. When we did hear our neighbors in the corridor they sounded, fortunately, quite far away. For those of you hating the hotel room that has one open the door almost literally onto a bed, then this type of arrangement would be a welcome respite. The room was exceptionally clean, cheerfully decorated and modernly furnished. The mattress was super firm and pillows appropriately soft. Three large windows in our room provided a tremendous amount of light and overlooked the garden/park on the hotel grounds.
Breakfast is included in the room fee and I was quite satisfied with the fare--continental with both scrambled and five-minute eggs. There was quite a selection of meats, cheeses, fruit, some veg, breakfast cereals, breads and an assortment of juices. There were scores of seats along the window where one had a nice view of the greenery.
The hotel has a small fitness room equipped with a tread mill and a couple of stationary bikes. One needn't bring their room key to access this room; the door remains unlocked during the day and evening.
Also included in our stay was a pass to ride any and all public transport around Basel Stadt. I really dug the ease of being able to jump on any tram or bus and not have to worry about payment.
Wee downside: neighbor upstairs was either a heavy-footed giant or sound travels way too easily between the hotel floors. Fortunately, whoever stayed above us stopped with the calisthenics/room rearranging at midnight.
Protip: ignore the recommendation by the front desk that one run along traffic-congested, paved streets in order to jog slightly near the river. Go here instead: http://www.yelp.com/biz/kannenfeldpark-basel read more
