This hotel is stunning! The staff is really professional. It is a wonderful place to have a coffee or tea break. The menu is pricy but it is a highly rated international hotel, so that makes sense. What a fantastic experience this grand hotel was - from check-in to check-out. We were here for a special wedding anniversary and they treated us more like loving family than guests. To say the service was 5-stars would not be giving the whole picture. It was relaxed, charming elegance with many small kindnesses adding up to a very warm happy experience. And the food was other level. We were fortunate to dine at Cheval Blanc and it lived up to its lofty reputation. A definite "wow" experience. But the hotel cuisine at lunch and even breakfast was also top-level. There are windows into the kitchen in the hotel and you can watch the chefs (including renowned chef Knofl) hard at work performing their craft. All of this does not come inexpensively. This is a 5-star hotel and Cheval Blanc is a 3 star Michelin restaurant. So you will have to spend some money for the experience. But there are many expensive experiences that do not live up to expectations. This one does and, in fact, exceeds them. Absolutely beautiful historic hotel with amazing views of the Rhine river since it's right next to it. Location: Centrally located in Basel and walking distance to the historic area as well as other areas. You're about 2 blocks from Marketplatz and near so many restaurants and yummy Swiss chocolate stores. The hotel has done a great job at keeping the historic design and feel of the building while still providing modern day amenities. Your key is an old style key with a large tassel that you can't lose (you give it to the Concierge whenever you leave so you don't have to lug it around). Staff: I love the staff. They are all extremely nice and helpful. They greet you as you walk by and help you with pretty much whatever questions you may have. They all are able to speak and understand English too. Upon checkin, you're given a fresh rose for your room (which has a small vase already filled with water for it). And upon checkout you usually get a homemade jam from them (it's delicious). Rooms: The rooms are very cute. As previously mentioned, they're all decorated in this historic look. The beds are comfortable and the AC works well when it's warm/hot out. They provide an umbrella in your closet in case it's rainy season. I really don't have any complaints. Breakfast: The breakfast buffet has a good selection. They have a variety of fruits, juices, yogurt, breads, charcuterie meats, and pastries. In addition, they have a small menu for you to order eggs, waffles, or pancakes. I highly recommend staying here and also having their breakfast buffet added. I was so impressed with everything including the B&O tv which is the best television made in the world. Great atmosphere in a glorious location. One of my favourite cigar rooms in the city, providing you breath taking views from the Rhein river. Albeit expensive, we are often serviced by a great staff, alway willing to help. Dinner at the bar counter is a monthly tradition with friends from work and each visit is a memorable experience. I would not rate it 5-stars due to price x benefit for what you get for the actual food (the food menu at the bar, this is not related to the Le Cheval Blanc restaurant). First, wow... just wow. In order to do this review any justice, I need to separate it by stay and of course by food. Food: We ate at two of the restaurants during our stay. The first was the Brasserie. This is their average restaurant, or the one you go to for breakfast or lunch. We did breakfast as we paid for that to be included in advance. Remember there is a currency exchange, so that was the most sensible. Now back to the food. The breakfast was exquisite. I am a coffee drinker, and as many know they coffee is richer overseas. I started almost every morning with a coffee and espresso. The breakfast was both order off a menu and buffet. Fresh meats, breads, cheese, yogurt, fruit, eggs, champagne, you name it, you could have it. Every breakfast we say overlooking the Rhine River. It could not have been more stunning. Oh wait, we didn't get to the dinner yet. Les Trois Rois also has one of the top 100 restaurants in the world. We really didn't know what we were getting into, as we went here our first night and were told a table freed up. Dinner was to start promptly at 7 PM. When we arrived in this intimate room, only lit by candlelight, we were astonished. It was only a ten top and the dinner was only for those 10 tables. It was a coursed meal that spanned 7 courses, but the reality was we got about 14 courses. Their wine list was out of this world, as well. We settled on a Pinot that was 150 Swiss francs. Honestly, it sounded the best and was out of this world. We could have gone with a 8,000 Swiss France bottle, but I think we picked a good choice! The food was out of this world. Made to perfection. Honestly, I have NEVER had food this well made and amazing. Every bite was tantalizing and melted in your mouth. The staff was amazing. They would let you get up without helping you. To be clear, this was a very expensive restaurant. There are no cheap chooses. The meal was 235 per person, plus wine and anything else extra you get. We left at about 750 for our bill (thankful I got miles for it ;) ). Room: The room was like out of a fairy tale. My 4 year old son FaceTimed me and called the hotel and the room Titanic. The history oozed out everywhere. The woodwork, grand stair case, and intricate details done to maintain this hundreds of year old building were amazing. The hotel had an amazing cigar room and wine cellar where you could purchase rare wines. The room itself was large, even by American standards. Equipped with a stocked mini fridge, snacks, flowers, fresh fruit. The service was amazing for the room, as well. The doors unlock via a modern, not so modern, key which is quite heavy. During the day the concierge will hold onto it for you. The bathrooms were marble with bidet toilets and a deep tub/shower combo. Once again extremely large. There were two large windows that could open to the city below, which was nice because it was about 50 and the fresh air was crisp. It was approximately 600 a night to stay here, but you are staying in a five star rated hotel. We will be staying here again in April and I cannot wait! read more

We stayed at the Grand Hotel a few years back, when it was known as the Hotel Drei Konige. I typically dont put much thought into hotels for business travel other than proximity to the "event" or "office" but this trip provided a bit more flexibility in our choice, so we went all in. Definitely a splurge, but the corporate dime was pretty large back then. When I reflect on that trip the image that stands out is the commanding view our room had of the Rhine, and the overall quality our stay offered us. The accommodations were exceptional, even down to the Hermes brand toiletries (like the aftershave, which I saved and still use to this day) Our room was a Junior suite, the bathroom had a chandelier...probably a bit over the top, but it looked good doing it. It overlooked the Rhine with a small balcony and had a nice view of the Greifengasse. The proximity of the hotel to old town was very nice and there are many great restaurants close by. read more

This is an amazingly posh hotel. The people and service are quite nice for a European hotel. The rooms are anywhere from jr suites to larger suites on the Rhein river. It's elegant and classy! The best dining room in Basel! The Brasserie restaurant is outstanding, with an unforgettable view of the Rhine. They have a good selection of daily specials, an impressive range of meat and fish dishes, and know their way around a beef tartare. A great array of desserts to round out the meal. The wine list is impressive, and the service is attentive. You will dine like a king - It's pricey, but it comes with the royal treatment! They also have a fantastic bar, so plan on having a drink there before or after dinner. If you are craving a cigar, head downstairs, pick out your favorite Cuban and a glass of scotch, and discuss where you will launch your next company or where you are going to vacation next summer! read more

Beautiful really old hotel. Amenities are top of the line. Service perfect. About $600.00 per night, for that price you would think that the breakfast buffet would be included, you would be wrong. After a small breakfast the 2 of us were presented with a 90CHF bill that even asked for a tip for us serving ourselves. That turned out to be a $100 breakfast. No one had mentioned or posted that the breakfast was an extra charge. Also no one mentioned to us that their top restaurant Chavel Blanc was closed for the entire time of our visit. In our room a note said, please join us for afternoon tea, but did not mention that tea was another extra charge. We had lunch at their Brasserie, Tuesday, August 8. I ordered veal with Rosti, the veal was tender and tasty but the Rosti potatoes were raw/uncooked and oily in the middle and burned black on the outside. Very sad. The minibar was mentioned several times in their literature, but it had no alcohol. Their person to person service was exquisite, but several items need attention. A real shame that they cannot even prepare Rosti properly. read more

Outstanding boutique hotel downtown Basle. The quality is at its highest, the location amazing, the prices stellar.

Hard to go wrong with a place that offers you a red rose upon check-in and a jar of homemade jam upon check-out. The heated black marble floors in the bathrooms, the luscious fixtures and decor, the impeccable service, the menu of pillow options, and the often quite reasonable rates (relatively speaking) help, too. Really grateful to have stayed here over the past several years. I guess the only gripe is that the TV is a bit hard to finagle. It takes a while to figure out how to turn it on and it takes even longer to figure out how to turn it off. But that's a small price to pay for all the aforementioned items. Life is good here. Oh! And the bar makes a good Manhattan. read more
