Schweitzerhof is located right next to the train station in Engelberg, which makes it a very convenient destination for tourists. Across the street from it there are couple of bars and restaurants, as well as a Mammut sports and rental centre. The rooms are spacious, clean and very nice. The bathroom was also big and quite modern. The staff at the reception was polite and helpful: in the last day they let us use their lobby for many hours (we were a large group, so we were literally taking up all the space in their lobby) and even served us some fruits. Very important to mention is that the food we had at their restaurant was great: not only very tasty, but also attractively arranged on the plate. And they have a separate Cheese room, where they only serve fondue and raclette in a traditional atmosphere. You cannot leave Engelberg without having the traditional fondue pot and that's one of the nicest and well priced places to have it! For the hotel however, be prepared to empty your pockets, as you can easily spend around 200 chf/night. But it's worth pampering / being pampered every once in a while, isn't it? :)

The buffet breakfast at the pavilion was above average, with a nice selection of local meats, cheeses, fresh juices, homemade breads and even sparkling wine. I can't speak to other meals at the hotel since we dined out for other meals and only spent two days there. Our primary complaint was that the room wasn't available for the early checkin, despite pre-requesting same through virtuoso. When we planned our trip we were unaware that we would be visiting during carnal all, and nothing could have prepared us for the craziness! It was like Mardi Gras on speed, with insane costumes and people of all ages singing, dancing, playing music, eating and drinking in the streets. There as even a party on Saturday night in the lobby, lobby bar, and ballroom of the hotel that went until 4 am. What a blast!!

Their staff is so friendly and will go out of the way to help you. The rooms are a cross between modern and antique with beautiful chandeliers, gorgeous old sinks and other furnishings with all the modern conveniences. The bed was perfect for sleeping and I am picky! It's beautiful waking up to the lake out your window! They offer expresso, tea, snacks, and wine as amenities along with bikes and a wealth of knowledge about sites to be seen in and around Switzerland. And did I mention their complimentary breakfast and amazing dinners! I can't say enough! Breakfast has everything from fresh bread to cured meat, cheeses, fresh fruit, homemade jams and other goodies daily. You have to make reservations for dinner as Dani is the only chef in a small but highly efficient kitchen...drinks start at 6:30 sharp and they offer samples of their meats and cheese. Dinner is three to four courses...on the night we ate there we had chanterelle mushroom soup, smoked salmon, mushroom ravioli(the best I've ever had!!!! Seriously!!) and over the top melt in your mouth vension(local)!!!! Best meal I had in Europe-hands down!!! And that's saying a lot as I love food. If your in Switzerland and and in the Lucerne area this is worth a couple nights stay with dinner...it's only 30 minutes from Lucerne in the mountains with a tram near by with excellent hiking from a small jaunt to 3 to 4 hours hikes...and all the lake activities within walking distance!!! Stunning views, friendly people, and gourmet meals-what more could you ask for!!! Oh and their pricing is very reasonable!!!!! Book it you'll love Boutique-Hotel Schlüssel!

The staff are amazing, the rooms are gorgeous, the views are spectacular, the service is top-notch, and the dining is delicious. I got a corner room on the top floor with two balconies and a window that overlooked further up the mountain. I had the delight on seeing some cows out there on my first morning. I utilized the pool everyday, got a massage at the spa on my second day, and ate at the restaurant onsite everyday for breakfast and dinner. I recommend all of it! It can get chilly out on the terrace, even in summer, so they have thick fur coats at your disposal for when you want to sit outside. There is a smoking/cigar room inside and ability to smoke outside on the terrace. The staff will also bring anything to you anywhere onsite if you just call and ask. They have elevated plastic ware available for poolside dining. Overall, highly recommend!!

The rooms were well appointed but I wish they had been a little more cozy and a little less corporate. At breakfast the first morning, my friend and I both ordered the overnight oats. When the dish came we both assumed it was an amuse bouche because the portion size was hilariously small. Like shot glass size. I still giggle when I think about it. It turns out that all the breakfast portions are small because you can order an unlimited amount of dishes and they don't like food waste. While I can certainly appreciate that, it would have been nice if our server had explained that when we placed our order. We were better prepared the next morning. The food overall in Switzerland was just not my favorite. It was good but under seasoned for my taste. My favorite dishes at dinner were probably the carrot coconut soup and the summer salad. The large pool at Villa Honegg is certainly the star of the show. It's heated and open until 11pm and we spent as much time there as we could. The one downside about this hotel is that it is a 20-30 minute drive into down for any activities or reservations at other hotels. It is worth it for the view but know that you need to make plans well in advance for offsite activities.
