Just checked in an hour ago. Hotel in residential area. Reception open 24 hrs according to given information. Spoke spanish with clerk so no idea if he speaks english. A hotel fee is required to be paid upon arrival even if room is paid in advance as in my case. This fee was less than 2€ so no big expense. Am on 6th floor in a tiny cute room with a tiny but cool balcony with street views. For those not needing the exercise there's an elevator. Very helpful in explaining route to nearby La Pedrera and the Sagrada Familia. A safe for valuables is in the room but doesn't work. The tiniest ever frig is located under the safe. That does work! Gratis wifi with good signal even on 6th floor!! Lots of small bars for tapas, banks, grocery stores, souvenir shops, and restaurants are located nearby. The big avenue is down the street two blocks offering access to buses and the metro.
First night update: Water pressure even past 1am strong with quick hot water in shower. Hotter than hell since AC doesnt seem to function very well. Television picks up a few English-speaking channels though you shouldn't be watching those. Bars and restaurants nearby close about 11pm-ish. Surely later in summer. Bed has old Spain-style long body pillow that has been flatten to the thickness of a pancake. Cool air thru open balcony.
Second and last night update: I told the maid about the lack of AC and the high heat. Also told two of the clerks downstairs of different shifts. The first guy basically said since it's not summer yet, some want heat still and others want AC. After returning from my day of shooting and walking all around Barcelona, I thought it was quite inconsiderate for them to not give me at least a fan to cool down. I can't leave the balcony door ooen or I'd have a problem with flying insects. Due to this end, I wouldn't return. Also I looked at the morning breakfast they offer and it's quite simple: some baked items, some juices, etc. I talked to some girls who were there eating and they agreed it wasn't worth the 6€ charged. If you stay here in summer or ANY time of the year and it gets warm, you better hope they have the AC switched on or you'll be a toasty heated visitor. read more
