I used credit card points to book this, so it's hard for me to gauge the value, but I definitely feel very good about choosing Hotel Nouvel for my three days in Barcelona. The location is PERFECT. It's a quick stroll from La Rambla and a block away from Plaza Catalunya. Despite being in pretty much the exact epicenter of Barcelona goodtimes, it's not particularly noisy at night on this little city street. That had been a concern of mine, and although you do hear some city activity it's nothing unusual. My room was tiny, which was fine with me. It would have been very uncomfortable for more than one person, though. One side of the window can't open because the desk is in the way. The shower was awesome, great temperature and pressure, but the tub wasn't large enough for an adult human to take a bath. Also fine with me. Really charming, narrow old building. Exactly what I wanted from my Barcelona hotel. There is a restaurant, and I only had breakfast in there for one day. It was expensive for what was available; there are other nearby options for food that are probably more compelling. They also have a little rooftop patio which they open up when the weather is nice. I enjoyed a sunny sit-down up there! I'm really glad I chose this place, and I think if you're looking for a reasonable location near La Rambla you will be fully satisfied with Hotel Nouvel.

The man in the photo did not want to give us his name, but please be aware he is the one that came into our room unannounced.

I stayed here with 2 of my girlfriends and the receptionist from downstairs used a card to walk in while one of my friends was completely topless. He knocked once and came directly in without waiting for anyone to answer. We asked to speak with management but he stated they were on holiday. We no longer felt safe and left in the middle of the night. Please do not come here if you're with a group of girls, the staff believe it is okay to walk into your room without any notice.

This hotel is the ideal place for a short trip to Barcelona. The location cannot be beaten - in a small pedestrian alley off Las Ramblas and in walking distance to Placa Catalunya you can reach nearly all interesting parts of the city in a short walk or subway drive. Especially if you arrive by airport bus - the walk from the bus to the hotel is only 5 minutes - perfect. Our room was very small - but it was clean and the bed was very comfy. The bathroom and especially the shower were great - a strong rainfall shower with steaming hot water - what else do you need after a day in misty gray weather? On the positve side the room was very quiet but on the other hand you had no view whatsoever out of the window - but who needs a view when the city is at your doorstep? Wifi signal is strong in the room and everywhere else in the hotel - so no problem to stay in contact with the outside world. What else? We had a TV and a remote but I really don´t need TV during holiday so I cannot say much about this feature. In our package the breakfast was included and there was everything you needed for a good start for the day - fresh fruits (apples, pears, kiwi, oranges), croissantes, baguette, salami and cheese. There are also some hot options but honestely I didn´t try one of them. But all the rest - including free flowing coffee did perfectly help to get the day started. Service at the hotel is very friendly and the check in and out is fast and without problems. If you have a late flight you can leave your luggage in a locked storage room free of charge - very helpful. We stayed here for 3 nights and I can recommend the place for everybody looking for a good value option in the heart of the city!

I really hate to give a hotel a mediocre review on its very first one but a few things about this place were very irritating. First I should say that although I am an American I lived in the UK for four years so I don't have the same expectations as most Americans -- I'm more familiar with European standards than most -- so a small room does not bother me, but the rooms here are unreasonably small and the mattresses are terrible. No box springs and very poor quality -- like sleeping on a cardboard and rubber mat. What bothered me the most though was the "extras" at check in... 2.5 euros per day to use the safe that is already in your room, another charge for a remote control to use the TV that is already in your room (we passed so I don't know how much) and access to wi fi is an extra charge per hour. More offensive, they only provide one password per room and it can only be used on one device (its monitored and controlled) so if you are traveling with two iPads and two iPhones as a couple, you will be spending a great deal of time at the front desk sorting this, and they won't be very helpful or friendly about it. I travel with international broadband so I didn't need it but had to step in for my mother when she couldn't take being talked down to by the front desk anymore. Breakfast was lovely and nice that it was included and the hotel is pretty and very convenient to la Rambla. But, if you stay here, pack your own universal TV remote, don't plan on using the wi fi and be prepared to sleep in a room not much bigger than a closet. Fantastic time because of the company I keep but I would not choose this hotel again.

Reception and glass elevator for Charlie.

TLDR: Come for the rooftop views of Barcelona, not so much for the stay…read more While Barceló Raval's rooftop offers one of the best panoramic views of Barcelona, the hotel itself is giving knockoff of the W. They try to give off that sexy, mysterious vibe, but as soon as you step into the room, the green ceiling, cheap fixtures and damask wallpaper give it away. The hotel is reasonably "affordable" for its location (near the Gothic Quarter and La Barceloneta), but definitely in a sketchy area. I highly advise walking outside the hotel at night, as you'll find the rough crowds your parents warned you about. The nearest metro station is about a 10-minute walk, and to get there, you have to cut through some of the sketchiest alleys. I booked through Expedia and was upgraded to a room with a view, a bottle of mini wine & an extra bottle of water. My amenities weren't so great from the moment I opened the door. Since my room was pretty high up, the room was stifling & those views were blocked by a stainless steel mesh. FYI: your room requires a key card at all times if you're trying to use electricity, which includes air conditioning. The shower initially felt luxurious--spacious with a giant waterfall head and solid water pressure--followed by lush bath towels, but that impression faded once I noticed the pockets of mold and grime in the corners. Sleeping was also a challenge since walls are thin and anytime the guests next to me entered their room, it sounded like someone was entering mine, which kept me paranoid and on high alert. Rooftop: the rooftop not only offers panoramic views of Barcelona, but also has a bar and pool, though hard to even suggest the pool is an amenity since it's more so for aesthetic than functionality. On the roof, it's not an open floor plan, so you'll have to walk around the building to get a full 360 view. For those who are height deficient such as myself: prepare for obstructed views because of the high railings (great for safety, but not so much for those under 5'3).

The location is truly unbeatable - just a block away from Plaça de Catalunya, a couple of blocks from a major metro stop and several main bus lines, a few blocks from great shopping and with good casual food scattered throughout. It's a great central spot for sightseeing where you're primarily relying on public transit, but also quiet and safe if traveling solo. I booked a signature room through my travel agent, and was delighted that they allowed me to check in a couple of hours early AND upgraded me to a signature balcony room. The hotel is very cute snd colorful, with modern design. The room was clean and pretty spacious, and the balcony was such a nice touch! I liked opening the windows every afternoon and sitting on the chaise and reading. There are refillable water stations on each floor by the elevator, which was a small but big perk to me. Awesome water pressure and temperature, kind, attentive service by staff, and incredible rooftop bar made this a fun place to kick off my stay in Spain. Small gripes: As a short person was the bathroom tub was a bit tall for me to climb into and out of. There was not a true fridge/freezer in the room; the staff was kind enough to store something in their freezer for me but it felt too out of my way to ask them to do it too often for me. The lobby bar drinks were fine but nothing to write home about. Overall though this is such a great hotel and I'd absolutely stay here again. It feels luxe but had very reasonable rates, even right after Easter which is peak tourism. The rooftop bar is very much worth a visit, beautiful views of the city and a fun, lively vibe. I cannot recommend this hotel more!

Not only was the hotel staff welcoming but the accommodations were clean and up to date while also being centrally located in the Gothic Quarter. We inquired about a private tour guide and we were pleased with the easy to understand process as well as the fact that the guide was flexible with her availability to suit our needs. We initially requested an early morning appointment but our hotel contact explained that some places didn't open for complimentary access until 10am. That was a great tip cause we were able to view many behind the scenes locations with the private guide. The rooftop bar has an amazing view and both meals and drinks are available for order. Since it's in the narrow alleys of Gothic, arriving at the front door via taxi is difficult, especially if the streets are very crowded. However, it's pretty easy to walk to from the main street if you're OK with walking about five minutes. When we left for the airport, we were able to coordinate a taxi pick up with the front desk. Fortunately, it was also a sunday, so the streets were very empty. It took about 15 minutes for the taxi to arrive, but it was easy to get out of the narrow streets. The hotel itself is nice. Check-in is on the mezzanine level. Our room wasn't ready, but they were able to store our bags. We grabbed lunch at the rooftop restaurant and the food was objectively decent. The main draw of the rooftop restaurant is the incredible view where you can see all of Barcelona and the towering cathedrals. Service was friendly. On a different day, we tried there spritz hour, which seemed to be marketed as two spritzes for €12. However, we each got charged €12 which I think was the price on the menu anyway so I don't know what happened there. The hotel room was cozy. Bed was very comfortable. The layout was a bit odd if you imagine that the room is a U-shape, the bed is the bottom of the U, which makes sense. However the bathroom was split up with the toilet on the right side and the sink and shower on the left side so after you use the bathroom, you would have to walk to the other side of the hotel room to wash your hands. It's not like the room is big, but it's just kind of odd for layout, especially if like luggage is dispersed across the room and you have to walk through all that.
