It's hard to write a bad review for a place when the staff really had tried their best and were friendly. As others have said, great location, right next to Placa de Catalonya.
However, when we checked in, toilet was dirty and the room smelled like sewage. Someone came to clean it. However, we noticed that after flushing the toilet, dirty water would seep back into the toilet bowl over the course of a few minutes. We notified the staff the following day, and they sent someone to fix it while we were out. However, the problem persisted when we returned to our room later that day.
We notified them again, and they offered us another room. So I went to talk to my wife about their offer. While we were discussing what to do, someone knocked on our door saying they wanted to look at the toilet. We decided to wait and see if they could fix the toilet before making our decision. However, in the meantime, they gave the other room to someone else.
The person said he found a plastic bag in the septic tank, and that that was the cause of the problem. We thought all would be well, and stayed a third night. The following day, we noticed that the same problem occurred. We woke up to a dirty toilet bowl and smell of sewage. At this point we had to leave for our scheduled touring, and when we returned we informed the hotel that we would be leaving.
When we returned home we contacted them asking if they would consider refunding us for two nights stay. We had paid for six nights total, stayed 3 nights, and since we checked out late before the 4th night, we thought this would be a reasonable compromise. We were informed that because they offered us another room, and because the toilet was "spotless" they would not be offering a refund.
I will be posting a photo of their "spotless" toilet and of the mold and mildew we found in their bathrooms. It's so gross I don't know if TripAdvisor will even approve of it being posted.
I understand that this is business from their point of view. For us, it made our holiday less enjoyable, but fortunately we were able to get a room at the Hilton which I highly recommend. I hope the person who e-mailed me, her name is Anna, is treated in the same way if she ever travels to a foreign country and has the same fortune with her bathrooms. read more
