This is not a five-star, fancy hotel by any means, but it's an awesome little hotel in the heart of everything. It's right off of Plaza Mayor and a main road with tons of shopping and restaurants. It's walkable to everything. It was clean and sooooo spacious. We had a room big enough for three people, with a very comfy pull out bed. There is also a sitting area and plenty of storage. The bathroom also had double sinks. The staff was nice, the check-in and check-out process was quick and easy. The only slight con is that taxis don't always wait out front as the hotel is on a smaller side road that cars can't easily access. So the entrance might not be the most accessible for wheelchair users. We had taxis drop us anywhere as far as the main road and as close as a block away. Overall, one of the better hotels we stayed in on this trip and I would 100% stay here again. read more

I can't speak about the hotel property, but I can speak about the hotel's dishonesty. Do not trust their "free cancellation" it is a scam. I needed to delay my travel due to a medical issue. I cancelled more than 1 week ahead of my reservation. But since my medical issue was not the equivalent of dying or being hospitalized, I received NO refund of a 5 day reservation. & they blame it on their "Free Cancellation" insurance. 3.5 stars. This hotel is located only a 5 minutes walking from the Puerta del Sol, a main central square and transportation hub in Madrid. While extremely touristy, the location is convenient to a multitude of restaurants and attractions, as well as to regional transportation for day trips. Stayed here for 3 days in early October 2019, this is a 3 star hotel that has a classic style ground floor, decent size rooms w/modern furnishings and an above average continental breakfast for a hotel of its class and size. All the facilities within the room and hotel were well maintained, walking into the lobby the check-in and concierge are located directly to the left, with elevators around the corner and a seating/waiting/lounge area directly to the back left. Directly towards the back of the hotel there is a restaurant where continental breakfast is served daily. The staff take down your room number upon entry and seat you inside. Breakfast selection offers pastries, yogurt, waffles, fruit, eggs, cheeses, breakfast meats, as well as various smoothies, hot coffee and tea options, and cold juice. Early in the morning around 7am breakfast isn't too busy but gets more crowded around 9am and so you may need to wait a few minutes for a table then. Staying in a room with two double beds, the size of the room was spacious compared to average European hotel room sizes, and with a normal size closet with a safe inside. A flat screen tv, console desk with a chair, and a small space for luggage completed the front of the room. Linens were clean and bed decently comfortable though on the medium-firm side. The AC worked but since it was a temperate time of year, it wasn't necessary to keep it on overnight. Also didn't watch TV so not sure about the channels. The utilitarian, modern bathroom was a normal size and not too tight--had about 3'x4' of standing room between the toilet, sink and shower. The shower never lacked hot water, and the water pressure was good. The minimum toiletries were provided including a shower cap, small block of soap, shower gel/shampoo, and conditioner--these were of generic quality and the shower gel/conditioner a surprising bright green color. Towels were sufficient for two. Service was courteous and professional at the front desk, they do early check-in or late check out and the standard wake-up calls. Housekeeping came once daily during the middle of the day, turned down the beds and generally tidied up the bathroom. Aside from the general busyness of the neighborhood thoroughfare (esp on weekends), if I was in Madrid again I wouldn't mind staying here again. read more

Although this is not a Five Star Hotel, this is definitely a wonderful hotel. It is locate minutes from every tourist sites. Walking distance from shops, metro, Church, restaurants and everything you want to do. Porta del sol and Plaza Mayor are walking distance; just minutes away. Calle Gran Villa is down the road which is excellent walk to some good sites. As for the hotel, it is very clean inside and out. There is a fabulous restaurant in the hotel. But the most important thing to me is the friendliness of the staffs. This is definitely a place to check out if you're planning to visit Madrid. read more

We stayed one night here, Good Friday, April 14th. I would highly recommend this hotel for its central location in the city. We were minutes away from Puerta del Sol, as well as numerous restaurants, shops, and other must-sees in Madrid. We walked everywhere and using the hotel as our base was simple. The room itself was clean and surprisingly quiet given that we were on the first floor next to the lobby. There is a restaurant in the hotel but we never used it as well as a fitness room that I didn't use, either, but my brother did and said it was more than adequate to get what you need done. Hotel liabeny provided a very good stay for our time in Madrid. It is close to everything and the hotel itself is very nice. Pros: Room is very clean and spacious, the linens(towels, sheets) were wonderful. The WiFi works great, and there are a lot of usb outlets for charging phones and tablets without having to use an outlet converter. The shower has excellent water pressure. We opted for the breakfast buffet at a discounted rate when we checked in, it had a lot of options and the food was very good but it was on the pricey side for just a breakfast. Cons: Our air conditioning wasn't working the best the first night so we left the key in the door the next day to keep it running and it did seem to work better the next night. Our room was situated next to construction, and it was quite noisy at times. Not a lot of English speakers, but that's expected in a foreign country. Overall it was a very good stay and we would definitely stay here again if in Madrid. read more

I don't usually write reviews, although I should more often. I thought I would leave one here because I was very hesitant to stay here based off some of the negative reviews. I don't know if they have upgraded and worked on this place, but I had a wonderful stay, and would not hesitate to stay here again. I absolutely adored it. So, I'm going to be lengthy and exhaustive in hopes this gives you some input. But it is just my personal experience! Appearance- I thought it was beautiful and stately. It was clean, and not outdated in my personal opinion. Beautiful woodwork and nice decor. There is an elevator as well as stairs. Service- The house keeper was extremely friendly and helpful. I couldn't figure out the shower and she promptly showed me. She was respectful of my personal belongings when she cleaned the room. And, always kept it well stocked with toiletries and towels. The concierge at the front desk was also very helpful, and had a good attitude. He helped me print, sign and scan some business documents that needed to get done while on travel. Fitness Center- just what I needed to get a workout in. They offer water and towels. They have cardio machines, but also had a bench and dumbbells for weight lifting. And, one machine that does multiple exercises such as back, chest, and legs. The weights may not be heavy enough for a male though, however there are gyms within a few minutes walk if necessary. TIP: There is a restroom next to the fitness center- in case you don't want to treck all the way back to your room. ROOM- I did not have a view, but I did have a window and that is all I needed. I wasn't hanging out in my room. It was a place to lay my head and keep my luggage. I was in an inner room so it was super quiet. I never heard the street noise outside. There is a nice size closet, safe lock box, desk, chair, and TV with some free local channels. I believe you can pay additionally for movies. The bed was comfortable and my sheets were clean. TIP: Your key card is what turns on the lights, if you have never been to Europe. Meaning there is a slot as soon as you open the door that you place your key card in, and the light switches will now function. Bonus, about this is that you never lose your key card, and just grab it as you walk out the door. A/C- Worked great, and could control temperature! I went in the hot summer and I could make it an ice box in the room. FOOD- I did not eat here so I can't speak for it. There were too many local spots around to check out, especially the markets! WIFI- I did not have any trouble with the wifi. It connected right away for me and the speed was sufficient. I used it for my phone and tablet. PROXIMITY- probably the best part of this place is its location. It is right off Gran Via. And, as soon as you walk out the door you can go to coffee, shops, and restaurants. A short walk also takes you to all the sightseeing/museums/monuments. I only took the metro once. METRO- Two are around either corner! This will take you to and from the airport and also around town. But, most of the places are walk-able from this area. TIPS- Have your coffee at "Cafe y Te"- don't bother anywhere else. Delicious and consistently good due to their quality choice of beans. (Steps from the hotel) Also, around the corner is "El Corte Ingles"- a 9 floor center. On the lower level is a grocery store. On- I believe the 7th floor is a postal office to ship things back home. And, on the 9th floor is the "Gourmet Experience" food market spot. It has views of the city, an outdoor patio, and a variety of tapa bars. Other than that you may want to venture a little further for more authentic food, as some of the restaurants cater to tourists. The shops are great though! The Spain leather shoes are amazing- don't leave without a pair. To say the least- I would stay here again. read more

This was our first stop in our 9 day/4 city Spain trip. I booked the hotel directly online using their website and received a discount for signing up with their "membership" program (free). The hotel was always very receptive to any of my emails prior to our arrival, which I really appreciated since this was our first time in Spain. They helped arranged a van to pick us up directly from the airport which saved us a lot of troubles because we are a group of 5 with luggage and would have required 2 cabs anyway. Overall, this was a pleasant stay. There are definitely things that could be better, but we had no major complaints. For the price, the location, and what we were looking for, I thought this was a good stay. Here's the breakdown: Things we liked - 1. location. The hotel is really close to the "sol" metro station, which is a central location that can connect to multiple sights. It's also within walking distance to several sights as well. In fact, we walked to most of the attractions during our 3 day stay. While it is in an area that can be busy, it's tucked away in a smaller street so it's not very noisy. I slept with ear plugs since I'm a light sleeper but the others in my party didn't find the noise to be an issue at all. 2. breakfast. We booked our stay with breakfast and it turned out to be a great decision. The buffet had many options and having that hearty breakfast every morning before our long days of sight seeing was very helpful. Since the Spanish shops don't open very early in the morning and they tend to eat late, it was nice to just walk downstairs in the morning for a huge feast before heading out. 3. There was a gym and a business center, which we didn't really use. we went in to get drinking water once a day from the water cooler though which was great. 4. Room. I thought the rooms were fine. Yes they are dated and can definitely use a make over. But they are spacious, clean, and I liked that there was a sliding door between the "bedroom" and the entry way because it helped block out some of the noises coming from the hallway (other guests walking/talking, door closing..etc). The TV was definitely small, but it had enough channels to keep us entertained when we needed. We were following the NBA playoffs and sure enough they had channels that were showing the games real time. Things that can be improved- 1. Customer Service: the front desk wasn't very friendly or helpful when we checked in, which turned me off on approaching them for anything else during the rest of our stay. The person helping us with luggage on the other hand, was always very friendly and kind. 2. I mentioned earlier the rooms can use an update. But that would just be for cosmetic purpose as they are perfectly functional now. 3. Wi-fi access. We appreciated the free wi-fi, but found the fact that you have to repeatedly log in throughout the day very annoying. They give you specific user name and passwords to use and they're not very easily memorized so it's so much trouble to have to pull out the info and enter them in. It would be better if they can just allow access for the duration of our stay and just let us log in once. I'm sure there are "better" hotels out there that may offer newer rooms, better amenities, and better customer service, but we were satisfied with our experience here based on the price we paid and how conveniently located this was for what we got. Room Tip: Pay attention to which street you're facing if you are trying to get a quiet room. read more

The hotel is very centrally located, near Sol station and walking distance from most touristic sights. The facilities are good and well maintained: everything is clean and in good condition. The checkin is a bit slow, there are four fast elevators, rooms are clean, and restaurant is nice, albeit a bit overpriced- a coffee, two mini baguettes with jamon (Spanish ham), an orange juice and a cake added to 22€ (March 2013) which is quite a bit more than what you would pay in one of the breakfast/lunch shops outside. The gym has basic equipment for beginners and surprisingly for a hotel gym all equipment seemed new and well maintained. One negative point though: I had booked on the hotel's own website a "superior single room" and on arrival the just gave me a normal one without any comment. I returned and complained at the check-in desk and the person in charge first told me that I am mistaken and I have booked a normal room. Then when I insisted and showed my printed reservation he told me that they are overbooked and he has only the standard room. Then told the bell-boy to show me a "better" room which was just the same basic as the first one, and only after insisting did I get what I booked. This did leave a bit if bitter feeling of being cheated. Other than that staff was nice and friendly. Wifi was functioning fine, so no complaints there either. All in all I had a nice stay and would recommend the hotel. read more

I stayed here 1 night in late June 2011. But in that short 24 hours, I realized I should have stayed here longer or at least during the first half of my stay at Madrid. The staff are very friendly, offering to carry my bags to my room and to turn down the bed in the evening. The pastries in the restaurant were great too. An excellent value for the price. This hotel was much nicer than the other we stayed at for the same price, in the same area in Madrid. The staff was very nice and spoke good English. They took our bags to our room too. The rooms were large, nice, clean and had comfortable beds. The location was also close to everything near Plaza Mayor. The only thing we found odd is we ended up taking a very early taxi to the airport and having the hotel arrange for it. It seemed that the hotel had some sort of deal with the driver, but we were very over charged. The taxi ended up charging us 3x the rate that the taxi from the airport to the same location charged... I can't say or not if the there was some sort of arrangement with the driver but it appeared there was a relationship and we think that maybe there was some sort of commission paid to the hotel and we were charged for it. Regardless, I would stay here again and recommend it. Just be careful on scams. read more
