Found this hotel in the Lonely Planet. Booked our room for 3 nights just a couple days before our late August arrival. Great price (Euro55).
Double room with two comfortable twin beds and bathroom. The room faced the Calle de Anocha side. Very little car traffic on this small street. Small TV, but who's in Madrid to watch TV anyway? In room safe. Heavy curtains that kept out all the morning light.
The hotel is on the southeast corner of the Plaza Santa Cruz. This plaza is nice and quiet. A couple restaurants, hostales, a bank, and a government building anchor this small square. Makes for a relatively quiet evening.
Located 1 block from Plaza Mayor, 2 blocks from Puerta del Sol, and maybe a 15 min walk to El Prado. Its really got a great central location.
The staff was really friendly and helpful.
Free-wifi too. Sometimes it wouldnt work so great in our room, but there was a little couch area outside our room where it would work just fine on those occasions. read more
