The Hat... wow! Such an amazing experience. From the moment I walked in, I knew my stay was going to be great. The staff were so welcoming and offered to store my bags while my room was being prepared. The room was so nice and clean, and the beds were comfy and came with a privacy screen which was great! The rooftop was amazinggg, they offered both drinks and food up there. They also had activities for everyone EVERY DAY! And all this for a low price, it was such a great deal. The location was also unbeatable, right next to so many walkable spots. Will definitely stay here again in Madrid!

Stayed in a few hostels in Spain and this was definitely my favourite! Got a 4 person co-ed room with ensuite washroom. Place was very clean and washroom had a rain shower that was absolutely perfect after a long day walking in the heat. Staff are very friendly, and great security when you store bags away on check-in/check-out days. Place is complete with a bar and roof top terrace. Most days around 9 PM they offered free sangria and tapas to get to know other travelers. Overall, had a great stay and would 10/10 recommend!

Solo trip to Madrid and I chose female room only. Location is convenience. Check in is easy. Room is clean. Roof top is great. Free welcome drink is even better. I met some amazing people during my stay in Madrid and we still keep in touch until now! If I ever plan a solo trip to Madrid again, the hat will be my number 1 choice.

Great place for drinks. The view is somewhat limited but very chill ambiance. Mostly a young crowd but still a good experience and worth checking out if you are in downtown Madrid.

I love The Hat!! Cute decor and spacious rooms. I especially love the rooftop terrace that has views spanning the city. ALSO, the WiFi is out of this world! P.S. It's on Calle Imperial and not Paseo Imperial. I know this because I'm an idiot and found out the hard way with nearly 100 lbs of baggage D:

I've been to numerous countries and stayed in my share of hostels, The Hat is by far the best one I've ever encountered. Location: hop, skip and a jump away from Plaza Del Sol- very famous/popular area with interesting history and awesome shopping. Also down the street from Plaza Mayor (too touristy for my taste but you were never far from food/drinks) staff: so incredibly friendly from start to finish: EUGENIO helped out my friend and I, and he could not have been any sweeter. He definitely helped make the experience a good one. Also they offered us a free walking tour (it's 3ish hours but you can leave from the group whenever you want to) it's a nice way to see some of the city sites and get some history behind it all We got a private 4 bed/female room with a bathroom- wow! So clean, you get half of a cubby/cabinet and you can rent locks from the front desk (or bring your own) can also rent towels for 2.50 for your entire stay. Did I mention they have AIR CONDITIONING! Such a nice commodity to have especially in a hostel, was very grateful as Madrid is known to be the sunniest city in Europe ;) They have a dining area downstairs (called the Cave) where they serve breakfast [nothing incredibly special BUT they do have soy milk and gluten free/dairy free options which I thought really showed they go the extra mile] The decor here is absolutely adorable- think Urban Outfitters-y- they have a rooftop bar that serves beer, sangria, mojitos and a selection of tapas. Each floor, going up/down the stairs, has a cute saying or mantra, that I thought had a nice touch. Will definitely be recommending to my friends and use for my future stays in Madrid!

I love this hostel! I've stayed here before and will probably be back again when I come back to Madrid! For the cheap price, you can't beat the location. The staff are always super nice, the dorms and bathrooms are clean and super comfy, and the WiFi is fast. They have a rooftop bar that is also picture perfect. 10/10 would recommend this hostel to anyone!

Okay minus one for the extremely slow moving elevators but the room was really nice, service was excellent, and the breakfast was chefs kiss! The room was decked out in a beautiful gold with a sofa, table, and spacious bed. Amenities included WiFi, complimentary shoe cleaning, and glass bottles of water daily. The outside view was nice (top of the palace or something), bathroom was spacious with complimentary body wash, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, and lotion. There is a coffee machine in the room as well as a small fridge with drinks and snacks priced per item. They had 2 robes in the room, velvet clothing hangers, and the softest room slippers. They have an awesome breakfast buffet, which cost 45 euros each day or about 30 euros if you pay for all days of your stay. The breakfast although stayed the same every day, were all healthy and fresh ingredients from creamy scrambled eggs, thinly sliced jamon and Manchego cheese, to fresh fruits, fresh juices, buttery croissants, fresh honey comb, pancakes, churros, and make your own omelet station. Also right across the street is the famous Prado Museum and The Cooking Clubhouse cooking class. Their service was excellent helping me load-in and load-out my luggage and there's even an indoor lounge and bar. Would come back 10/10, Salud!! :))

Double room with two comfortable twin beds and bathroom. The room faced the Calle de Anocha side. Very little car traffic on this small street. Small TV, but who's in Madrid to watch TV anyway? In room safe. Heavy curtains that kept out all the morning light. The hotel is on the southeast corner of the Plaza Santa Cruz. This plaza is nice and quiet. A couple restaurants, hostales, a bank, and a government building anchor this small square. Makes for a relatively quiet evening. Located 1 block from Plaza Mayor, 2 blocks from Puerta del Sol, and maybe a 15 min walk to El Prado. Its really got a great central location. The staff was really friendly and helpful. Free-wifi too. Sometimes it wouldnt work so great in our room, but there was a little couch area outside our room where it would work just fine on those occasions.

For the money that you pay in the location it is, you can't wish for more. Very tempted to actually give this place 5 stars ... Where's that 1/2 star when you need it? ;) The location for this little gem can't get any better, located right in the heart of Madrid's tapas district: La Latina. The reception is located together with the bar, which may be a little confusing for some, but the service is so welcoming and friendly, that it poses absolutely no problems. You are not only welcomed with a smile, but a welcome drink, which is exactly what you need/want when you just arrive somewhere. The bar is also welcoming and well furnished with a homely feeling The room wasn't massive, but furnished with very modern and chic decor giving it a very funky upmarket feeling. The bathroom was also very modernly decked out. More space was given to the bathroom than around the bed, which I appreciated. The shower was also a walk in jobby, not one of these bath/shower combos which I have no time for (having no kids mind you). We had a room with balcony facing the street which was just perfect. Fair to say that come morning there was a fair bit of noise with rubbish trucks and the like waking us up, but to me this only added to the charm of the place. Experiencing the hustle and bustle of a city is exactly the reason I travel to such place .... Others I'm sure would not agree. Very nicely furnished (rooms, bar, restaurant etc.), sweet location, friendly service. What more could you want? Highly recommended!!

The hotel is right on the popular Cava Baja road, where there is no shortage of tapas restaurants and boisterous, young night lifers spilling out of bars and restaurants and into the street from sundown to well in the morning. The hotel's own entire first floor is a restaurant, with an open-roof courtyard of tables. This sounds nice but presents a problem as the rooms surround this courtyard on the above floors. The noise wasn't *horrible* but it was definitely noticeable - talking, chatting, clinking, laughing - until midnight or so. The rooms are small but with good use of space. My sister and I shared a room, and the lack of mirror of any kind outside the bathroom made it hard for two of us to get ready at once. Also, the bathroom is a sliding glass door with frosted glass, so I don't recommend this for non-couple sharers or those who don't know each other really well. The breakfast buffet was €12, which seemed a bit steep for a breakfast, but the fresh juice and croissants looked tasty. The location was excellent -- we could walk to Mercado San Miguel, Plaza Mayor, Sabatini Gardens, and walking to Museo del Prado and the Reina Sofia was do-able if you wished.

I ordered a Fanta and got a plate of pesto pasta, which was glorious because I had just came into the city and was super tired and didn't feel like searching the area for food. . I stayed in a 12 bed female dorm. There were trunks underneath the bed for storage that you could put a combination or padlock on, and the bed itself had a nightlight, USB charging ports and little net storage pocket for essentials. Like most hostels in Europe, most of them double up as hotels so for a premium price you can also have your own room. . It is centrally located with plenty of bars, restaurants, gift shops, and tobacco stores nearby. The closest Metro station is less than a 10 minute walk (either Sol or Gran Via). . For two nights, we paid €40 so definitely ideal if you are on a budget. They take a €10 deposit for each room key, which is returned to you within 24 hours of checking out ON TIME. If you check out late, they keep the deposit for your room key. The bathrooms were mostly clean, but a few of the sinks didn't have hot water and in the dead of winter that could be really detrimental on the hands. The best time to catch the bathrooms is early morning. I would say before 8 AM when they've just been cleaned. One con about this place is they charge €6 to rent towels and they sell basic essentials, such as soap, shampoo, etc. Every other hostel I stayed in Europe offers towels and toiletries free of charge. . Nonetheless, CATS was cool. They served their purpose and if you wanna be in the heart of the city without city prices, it's a great place to stay.
