Elevator action!

*adds to favorites* I loved my recent stay here. Breakfast was nice, and the rooms are clean. Happy hour was fantastic and the classic cocktails served were spot on. The hotel is walking distance to great, local businesses which added to the stay, and the views were great. The front desk attendants were kind, check-in was painless--a win is a win!

Valet is overpriced, but to their credit, the service was quick and the staff very friendly. The hotel itself is gorgeous with a great atmosphere, full of historic charm. Our room had an old A/C unit that initially made things feel damp, but once it cooled down, it was much more comfortable. The room was spacious with a large, beautiful bathroom featuring elegant tile, a deep soaking tub, and a big stand-up shower. Beds were super comfy, and even the elevators, though older, added to the vintage vibe in a good way.

I stayed here the last week of July for 4 nights in room 515. Pros: Omg I LOVED that my room had a little entrance way filled with gorgeous paneling. Our room overlooked the "Education for All" mural. It felt so pretty and luxurious despite the decent price. Overall very quiet, the room was clean and the lobby smelled like Christmas. Cons: no pool. Shampoo bottles attached to the shower wall means you can't wash your hair in the giant soaker tub because they don't have bottles for the tub. I couldn't figure out how to use the hand attachment for the soaker tub either. Be warned there's nothing to do in the area, so hope you like chilling in your room. Shuttle: There is a free shuttle. We had a couple issues with it - one morning when it was raining, they dropped my husband off at the wrong conference center hotel for a work conference, so he was soaked and late. When I tried to take it initially, they told me they weren't running it because they needed the employee to run the valet. Also we walked to a coffee shop 3 miles away. When we called for a pickup, we were told they only pick up within 3 miles (like the front desk told us.) I noticed that not every room has a little entrance area with refrigerator and bar (I looked when I walked by the staff turning over rooms.) I don't think I'd like the room as much without it, but in general, I love the Autograph collection hotels and this one is no different! Visited July 2024

Vegan meatloaf with asparagus and potatoes

The rooms were clean. The service was outstanding. There is a vegan meatloaf dish that I would recommend to all vegans to go try. The portion is enough for two people, and it was absolutely delicious. The bartenders went out of their way to make a special cocktails. Yes, I recommend this place.

Great hotel in Houston. Really nice bar & restaurant. Room service was great, loved every dish I ordered! Staff was so friendly and welcoming. Location was great too. Only rated 4 stars because Houston itself wasn't that impressive but I would stay here again if I had to come back to this area!

Such beauty and grace

We stayed here for a concert that was happening in town just about 7 minutes walk away, and I can say I enjoyed my time! As a lover of historical architecture and vintage themes, I was very much in love with the attention to detail here! I've stayed at the hotel ICON in ATX, and while that one is very nice for a more hip and lively atmosphere, this place is very elegant and quaint. From the kind service, to the history behind such a place, was very wonderful! I wish we could've gotten more of a tour but the whole building to the rooms is enough to give yourself one if you know where to look!

I'm conflicted on my experience here. When I first tried to check in the receptionist told me it was too early. How else is the hotel suppose to know to assign me a room when one becomes available (in case someone leaves early) before my check in time? Instead, I asked for my bags to be held while I looked for breakfast and explored downtown Houston. The hotel was sold out the night before and a different receptionist let me check in upon returning. My suite wasn't ready until around noon, which was expected. All of the suites were on the penthouse floor. I loved this, it felt a bit exclusive. I loved the grandness of the suite. The high ceilings and all of the storage space (hall closet, two bedroom closets) were amazing. The suite was large and cozy, but showed its age. One of the cabinets in the kitchen nook wasn't aligned so it opened and closed at a slant. There are dents in the wall from previous guests removing the door guard too aggressively. I had to use a little more force than normal to open and close some doors, specifically the three closet doors and the cabinets in the kitchen nook. The graphics on the TV looked very old. Like they were last updated in the early 2000s. The bed was so comfortable though, and the bathroom was great, specifically having all of that counter space. There is a bar a block over that blasted music on Sunday night until 2am Monday morning. The Wi-Fi didn't work on the morning I checked out. None of my streaming services would load or play videos. The blue sofa in the living room was disgustingly filthy. When I tried to sit on it, I used my hand to help ease myself down, and I could feel the grit underneath my hand. When I looked at my hand, there was a lot of black dust, lint, and what looked like dirt or some kind of grit, similar to the texture of sand. Just thinking about how long that sofa was neglected is gross. It's a nice hotel in a great location, but the nightly rate is overpriced. I would suggest staying here if you can appreciate the architecture, but don't expect all of the perks and benefits that usually come with a 4-star hotel or current/upgraded technology.

Berry lemon drop at bar by check in

*review strictly on bar didn't stay at hotel was on a tour* The check-in area is pretty nice and has some really nice history behind it and then some spooky history as well. They have a beautiful lounge area upstairs where we sat and talked. The only reason for the low stars is that the drinks are very expensive. The most expensive from the 4 places we visited. Our berry lemon drops were $20 a pop, which is pretty steep to me.

Elegant old world classic type of decor. It used to be a bank 100 years ago so there's alot of the old bank decor and structures still in place. Service was friendly. The rooms were clean and comfy. Walking distance to alot of restaurants/bars (however they do have one on site). They also offer room service, valet parking and have a full service spa.

This hotel has lots of character! Very rustic but at the same time elegant. Spent my birthday weekend here and had a great time. Lots of restaurants and bars walking distance from this hotel. If you aren't adventurous enough to walk (it can get pretty scary at night) they have a shuttle that can take or pick you up from places up to a 3 mile radius. Service was great! There are some renovations happening close by so the noise in the morning can wake you up .

I was visiting for a conference and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel! They were fully booked, but made it a point to honor all my requests including that for a room on a high floor with a good view and an extra sofa bed. They also allowed me to check in super early and check out an hour late. The folks at the reception are wonderful and helpful. The hotel itself is gorgeous with its old world charm. There are also stories of ghosts around There's so much history in this building. Id definitely recommend a stay here!

The details of the place and interior design of the room, is quite adorned! It's Victorian decor and warm with colors. They gave us water bottles and the extra supplies for bathroom while we were out, which was great! Former bank and lobby staff greeted us every time we passed them. Coffee and tea available in the morning. Great stay and convenient while in downtown area.

Service was impeccable during our one-night visit from check-in to checkout. There are snacks in the lobby and chilled Rose' wine is offered in the lobby in the late afternoon. Our standard room was excellent with a large shower and a bed that was beyond comfortable. We were overlooking the pool area, and it looked mighty inviting, maybe next time. We loved seeing all the old movie posters and unique décor in the lobby and conference rooms. Even the restrooms have themes! While I understand mistakes happen, what was completely unacceptable was the way the situation was handled afterward. When I called the front desk for help, I was met with rudeness, attitude, and skepticism, as though I was making the situation up. The front desk manager was dismissive and unhelpful, despite the fact that I even offered to personally look through the dirty linens to find my clothing. Two days later, the hotel finally called to say they had found my shirt, only to then ask me to pay for the shipping label to have it returned. No apology. No accountability. No acknowledgment that I was left scrambling and forced to borrow clothes from others in order to attend my event because of their mistake. To make matters worse, the concierge kindly assured me that his manager, Daisy Lopez, would be reaching out to address the situation. Despite following up twice, I never heard another word from the hotel. The issue was never the mistake itself, accidents happen. The issue was the complete lack of professionalism, empathy, accountability, and customer care afterward. For a hotel that prides itself on luxury and reputation, this experience was an absolute disappointment.

Not once did we feel uneasy (and we live in the Houston area - did a staycation for my husband's birthday). A few years ago, it would be a different story. There are a few homeless in the general area, but they aren't disruptive. We stayed in room 705, complete with a city view. It was quiet and lovely. I wish the rooms had a full-size fridge and cooking area, but for downtown, the suites are just as big as a studio apartment. There's space-themed decor throughout the hotel. I found the valet pricing to be a bit steep, and unfortunately, I have reason to believe two pairs of sunglasses were stolen from my vehicle. (I realize they should have been put in my purse immediately after use, but it slipped my mind, and out of habit, I put them in the console.) Regardless, it's frustrating. It also took 10-15 minutes for valet to pull our car around, so that's something to keep in mind. The evening reception was nice, especially with the two drinks/person/night. We had chips and queso, though they had a few other offerings. Make sure you get the card at the front desk. The front desk staff will also try to sell you on destinations for a cheap rate. I'm not sure when this became a thing, but instead of telling us about the evening reception and breakfast, they tried selling us on a stay in Chicago. I really just wanted to go to our room since I did everything on the app. We also found the breakfast to be worth every penny to stay in this hotel. I can't have gluten, and there isn't any GF bread. I had eggs, potatoes, grits, and coffee. There were cereal, fruit, yogurt, and waffle-making options as well. I appreciated the coffee bar having various syrups. The hotel was extremely accessible for those with disabilities/handicaps. We saw several people in wheelchairs or with assistance. Hearsay on the Green is inside the hotel, and the food is priced well for what you get (and it's excellent). If you DoorDash, the Dasher has to leave your food/items at the front desk. They are not permitted to go up to guest rooms. The rooftop pool and hot tub offer views of the city and Toyota Center (excellent people watching). Overall, I'd stay again (but I'd ensure I brought my cheap sunglasses and not my Maui Jims).

And while the whole experience will hit your wallet, it is worth it. Let's face it, you're staying here because of either the convenience of the lovely restaurants connected to the hotel or because of the rooftop pool with the Texas-shaped lazy river. Fortunately, both of these factors live up to it's promise and glamour. The restaurant options are aplenty; all that connect to the hotel lobby. Prestigious options such as Xochi, Biggio's, and Walker Street Kitchen are all here. Xochi is the only one we visited during out time there and it's well worth the experience (see my review on that). The rooftop pool has several seating/lounge sections along with a full bar/restaurant at the front area. Additionally, there is a hot tub and a pool on the left side where you get a nice view of the Houston skyline and the Texas-shaped lazy river floats around all of these attractions. It's the main reason why you're coming to this hotel in the first place! Other amenities I liked is the very large fancy exercise room and the club area where they serve complimentary breakfast for platinum and titanium members. The breakfast has some delicious items including fresh pastries, charcuterie selections, and the scrambled cheese eggs. And there's a cappuccino machine included if you want something more fancy than coffee. All these things I've listed and I haven't gotten to our room! Well we had a clean king sized bedroom that directly overlooked the rooftop pool giving us a nice view of what we would be engaging in during the afternoon. The room also has a safe in the closet if you want to store any valuables. As I mentioned, it's gonna be pricey staying here with all the perks I listed. But would I do it again? HELL YEAH!

There was a lot of open space in addition to the king bed and the living room area. Even though it was February, it was actually quite warm and humid inside the room. We had recently experienced temperatures in the teens in Dallas, so being in a room with the temperature in the mid 70s, seemed unbearably hot. We had to find the A/C and turn the temperature down a few degrees. The hotel is located near the arts district where we were planning to spend our Saturday. The earliest we could checkin was 3pm, so we spent our day visiting the city and just left our luggage in the car. Checkin was super easy since we already had a reservation. Parking was included. The property has a fence around it, so the parking felt relatively secure. It was also well lit. The spots in the front were mostly taken, but you could drive around to the back of the building and easily find a space. The hotel has an elevator, but it is very slow. We used the stairs quite a bit, but found the elevator useful for carrying our bags upstairs. The view was limited and not very appealing, but the building only has about three floors. Amenities like a pool, gym, and laundry facility were also available at no added charge. The Wifi name and password were printed on the room key to make it easy to connect. Breakfast was included. The breakfast area had several tables. the meal is buffet style. They do have hot items like scrambled eggs, sausage, and breakfast tacos. You can make a waffle or toast bread or a bagel. Cold items like juice, yogurt, cereal are also an option. Two staff members were there making sure food was readily available and that things were kept clean. There were a few items that bothered me about this particular hotel. One, there was no TV reception in my room. I couldn't believe there weren't any channels, not even local channels! I was also annoyed that the bathroom sink was not draining properly. My husband had to play with it to get it to drain at all, and even then, it took a very long time for the water in the sink to empty after washing my hands or brushing my teeth. Lastly, the light switch at the entrance of the room only controlled the lighting in the entryway. I had to go around and turn on individual lights to feel like it wasn't so dark. These were minor inconveniences, but for the price, I would have expected these not to be an issue at all. The staff at the front desk were very pleasant and went out of their way to help me. On the day of our departure, my husband wasn't feeling well. They provided me with some bottled water as well as a Sprite to help his stomach. I was so touched by this offer. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again. We both got a good night's sleep.

Also, I made a note that I could not have tuna but they took this as I could not have fish so they gave me two chicken salad sandwiches instead of the salmon even though I had stated on the phone salmon was fine. She also could not describe one of the desserts but overall she was very pleasant. The amuse bouche was - interesting ( a strawberry with cream cheese) I didn't hate or love it. I didn't think the cream cheese added anything tbh. We had one dessert on the table waiting for us before we said down - a English parfait that had a white chocolate mouse, cake, and fruit. I loved it although it was a bit strange to have dessert already sitting at your table before you got your sandwiches but I am a dessert first girl so didn't matter to me other than it was constantly calling my name. You don't get to choose your tea and the two tea options are both black which is a lot of caffeine. The sandwiches themselves come across as unassuming but they are great and very filling. Each one has a different bread which was cool. Although not a fan of cucumber, the bread was milky and so soft. All the sandwiches were fantastic. Honestly, I was so full from the tea and sandwiches, I took the desserts home. One big misstep in service was the server forgetting to serve the second tea. I had to ask for it and by the time we got it, we were tea'ed out. You are gifted a box of macarons at the end - we almost left ours but our server ran and got us in time. I definitely had a great time, there were small incidents that stopped it from being 5 stars.
