This was the worst hotel stay I have ever experienced…read more Our last night in Berlin, my girlfriend, our 11-year-old son, and I stayed at the Nhow in Friedrichshain. From around 23:00, we were disturbed by loud noises from upstairs, which escalated into screaming and shouting at about 01:00. We tried to ignore it, hoping it would be over quickly, but the noise kept returning, and we kept trying to fall asleep again. We also had a little boy with us, so we did our best to do nothing and just hope everything was okay. Most guests wouldn't go immediately to the desk in such a situation. When it all escalated again at 4:45 am, we hoped it would end soon, but it only got worse. After four hours of being awake, I called the front desk. The girl on the phone just said they would check it and then hung up. The screaming stopped temporarily, like it did all night, but 45 minutes later, it resumed and was followed shortly after by fighting. My girlfriend then went downstairs to report the situation again and ask for a refund, as we had been unable to sleep all night. They told her they couldn't do anything and that they weren't allowed to evict anyone. Nobody came upstairs, and it was already 6 am. After another period of ongoing chaos, I called again, now really upset, because nothing had been addressed. The staff only appologized but said they couldn't kick the guests out. At that moment, my son was crying and scared from all the yelling, shouting, and fighting. Our entire night and stay were ruined. In the morning my girlfriend went down again very tired from not sleeping and angry because nothing was done about it. The people at the frontdesk just said they also wanted to check out the story of the guest above us as if we lied about the whole night and called, go down, called again , go down and staying up all night for fun or so. Then my girlfriend got mad of course. And Said we would leave bad review on the internet and left. Later on, I also sent them an email with our account of what happened. The reply I received was unbelievable--full of contradictions and completely opposite to what they told us that night. In their email, they claimed they were with the guests and told them to vacate the room when they continued, despite having told us twice that evicting them was not possible. They also stated that someone went upstairs, but when that person was there, everything was quiet; now they tell us they were really at the door. In the morning, they said they first had to talk to the guests to see what they did. So, the email was filled with conflicting statements. At the end, they even accused my girlfriend of trying to blackmail them by threatening to leave a bad review. To say this after a sleepless, stressful night with our scared son is incredibly unfair and shows how little they care about their guests. We have never had such a terrible hotel experience. Our son was frightened by the yelling, fighting and loud noises. The only explanation was this " The hotel itself provided every service you booked and we acted on the troublemakers who are merely guests of our hotel." Providing every hotel service? That's a complete joke. We didn't get any sleep, our son didn't feel safe, and nothing was handled properly.

Bathroom is very small, in fact the rooms are generally small, but consistent with European hotels in that regard. Main problem in the room is not having any space to set things down. Like a table. It's tight in here. But not bad. It's not a major complaint. Also, modern chairs are not comfortable at all. So come on hotel people, stop trying to be cool and buying fancy chairs that hurt your butt. The major complaint, if I have to have one, is that the bar and restaurant close so early! And there aren't that many options at the bar. If I want to chill and relax with my coworkers, there is a much cooler bar experience at Nhow Berlin. Also, while it does feel European, it doesn't give any feeling of being in Germany - other than the TV options, I could be at any Holiday Inn around the world. Oh yes, please guys, some English channels would be most appreciated! Overall, this is a fine place, and I'd stay here again. Not bad for the price!

Even though the rooms are really small, kinda like a Holiday Inn Express, they're big enough to fulfill the purpose of sleeping there. I had a double room with one bed, because they luckily have a smoking floor. The bed was really comfy and i love they have the soft/hard pillows. Enough for 2, lucky me, the girl i was with just needed about 1/4 of it. LOL As i said, new hotel, so new bathroom, really nice, as usual many white soft towels, they carry here Dove hand soap & shampoo dispensers in the shower, nice touch. The bath has a color patterned frosted glass wall towards the room, that was a new thing for me. I really liked the new locks with RFID or NFC they have, and not the usual "swipe-the-card" kind which BTW always give tons of problems. It's great cause i didn't even had to take the card out of my wallet for the elevator or to unlock my room, really cool! I was on the first floor, so not much of a view though, but still i got to see the Berlin Wall and the Spree as they're located just a couple of 100 meters away. On the check in the girl in the front desk wasn't that good, they either don't have a Priority Check in counter or she just didn't care, even though i had my Reservation on my Passbook, she asked again for my name, and all kinds of stuff, well you know Germany and its service. The Restaurant is nice, with a big glass facade from top to bottom and the Hotel has even its own Starbucks inside where you can get drinks charged to your room, really convenient. All in all i'll definitely consider this Hotel the next time i go to Berlin. The Location for me, at least this trip, was beyond amazing, as other friends where staying at the Michel Berger, and the Warschauer Str. Station is within 5 minutes walk. So connections where really good. The Internet was superb, and as usual Free (don't know if for all, but at least for Priority Members it is) and i got pretty good speeds, 25 Mbps symmetrical, for business customers amazing if they need to reach a Server or VPN. I hope other locations get some of the new things they have here upgraded soon, like the locks, elevators and internet. It's pretty nice to have a flat screen hanging on the wall and not on some kind of chest of drawers. Check out was really easy as i did it thru the iOS App and when i got to the front desk this nice guy greeted me, saw on the screen i already checked out and handed me an envelope with my bill. Great, i was out of there in 1 minute, and he actually fulfilled the Priority Club protocol, not like at the check in. Kudos. Oh and of course as a Priority Club member you get 2 extra hours to check out.

But it was clean, wii fi was good, bed was comfortable and it was located across the street from the Berlin wall and right next to a cute place where I purchased a double decker city bus tour, sipped on local beer and munched on a curry bratwurst. All in all, I probably wouldn't stay here again because the price is comparable to high end hotels. But when a girl's feet hurt....price doesn't seem to matter.

Call me crazy, call me stuck up, but it's the truth. But I'm not so snobby as to let a charming boutique hotel like East Side go unnoticed. My Beloved and I stayed here for three nights (my first trip to the capital), and I found the staff here warm and welcoming, while representing a hotel that is clean but delightfully unconventional (I mean, part of their branding includes Leonid Brezhnev smooching Erich Honnecker for God's sake). When we arrived, our room wasn't ready, but the gentleman behind the counter made amends by offering us a free beer while we waited (which, for a weary traveller coming from the UK, was a welcomed gesture for only a 15-minute wait). East Side is like a haven for hipsters, with charmingly playful colour schemes and eccentric photography dotting the walls. Our room was fairly large, and amazingly, the bathroom was nearly the same square footage. The staff thankfully granted our request to have a room facing the iconic Berlin Wall, which made for fantastic people watching, even in the deluge of autumn rainstorms. East Side is within convenient walking distance from some of the city's best bars and restaurants, which meant we didn't bother taking the U-Bahn until the second day of our trip.
