A group of 10 of our closest friends were on our way to Oaxaca to celebrate my wife's 40th birthday…read morefor a four day Mexican adventure, a once in a lifetime bucket list item for a once in a lifetime moment. We were all planning on staying at Quinta Real. We had booked transportation, restaurants, tours, tastings, a full four day itinerary that we had spent months crafting to try and make perfect for this very special occassion in a very special city. This was all upended when bad weather rerouted our flight, missing our connection, with no viable options to rebook an entire group of 10 people in time to enjoy the trip. My wife was devastated, in tears, the trip she had been looking forward to all year completely ruined at no fault of her own. I called to see what Quinta Real could honor our reservation by booking a different date, a credit, a discount, or ANYTHING to ease the pain. We wanted to come back (and we will be, just not with this hotel), and we wanted to continue working with Quinta Real to make this mutually beneficial for both parties. Instead, they could not care less and are keeping the entire thing, four nights to the tune of thousands of dollars in exchange for not having to lift a finger to do anything for 10 guests now. Most important of all, however, is the lack of any professionalism, sympathy, politeness, or kind words under these special circumstances--they simply don't care. The human element of compassion is what I care about when I consider or recommend a place. I do not recommend Quinta Real--they have shown that they lack this element when it matters most.

Our family and friends were blown away by the service, the rooms were beautiful and everyone was so accommodating. It was a dream to stay at Quinta Real, it costs significantly more than other places in town, but it's a luxurious and beautiful experience. Yadira did our wedding and she is the very best!

There's a courtyard in the middle that contains a restaurant. There was complimentary breakfast during our stay here and the food was actually pretty good; I especially liked the chilaquiles. There's also a rooftop terrace with a small pool. Note that there are no elevators so you will have to carry your luggage up the few floors. Because it's on the Andador Turistico area and Calle Macedonia Alcala, one of the intersections is pedestrian only which is convenient. The other intersection has a decent amount of cars and noise but not too much. Note that they do not allow visitors after 11pm and they close the front door after a certain point in the evening and you have to ring the bell to enter at night. It was really interesting to be in the calm and quiet of our room and then immediately walk out to the busy streets. However, it's a great hotel if you want to be in the center of everything.

The rooftop and pool are nice to relax at - Oaxaca is pretty hot during the day and that pool was cold! For breakfast I tried the enchiladas and chilaquiles, both were great and the fresh mandarin juice was amazing. I would definitely stay here if visiting Oaxaca again!

You hit the Jackpot. I really don't know where to begin with this review because there's so much…read morepositive to say about this place. So, let me begin with the incredible and always helpful Amado, the general manager. Jane is life energy and smiles with tons of knowledge about the area. Transplanted from Arizona, she has made this her home for the last thirty something years. Amado has more knowledge and information that he willingly shares than anybody that you'll find in the area. That is actually, both of them have hearts of gold, and they're so pleasant to be around. As you arrive at this long green wall with a huge magenta colored door in the city itself, your imagination runs wild with what could be on the other side. As you pass through the doorway and come out the portico, an archway of boganville and flowers and a huge garden in the middle of the area, your eyes are just filled with colors of tropical flowers. Surrounding the garden all the way around are the rooms of this former ranch house converted into this unique b&b that's offered here. Also, here is a kitchen staffed with amazing local chefs creating their wonderful dishes, and the housekeepers are solid gold nice people. You will undoubtedly see the gardener wandering around cleaning the area to make sure you have and eye appealing visit he is such a nice man. For those who like to read or study? There's a sola that has a couple of guitars in it if. You like music and a library where you can just relax. In the rear accommodations, it's a private area for groups of artists that come down and stay and study and show the arts. Every aspect of this place has been thought over then rethought, then rethought until it became perfect. I can't believe it took me so long to come back for my second visit. This is completely one of the best kept secrets in the city of Oaxaca. The rates here include breakfast every day, and you can arrange for lunch if they're serving it and dinner every night. Absolutely incredible affordible pricing for the rooms. It's easily one of the best and easiest recommended accommodations I've ever made.

We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfasts and fellow guests. Amado was helpful with restaurant and logistics recommendations in town. We enjoyed the library and were allowed to use their small laundry room to iron our clothes for a wedding we were attending. We were very comfortable in our room. The bathroom was very roomy. The water pressure was very light in the shower. Oaxaca has a water shortage, so we understood doing our part. We highly recommend Casa Colonial.

An all-around very enjoyable hotel experience. From the front desk, to the room itself, to the food…read moreand hospitality, this place was worth every peso we overpaid. Yes, overpaid. It's not cheap, nor is it centrally located by any means. But, it's a nice break from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Quaint and charming are the words that come to mind. I would say it's very quiet, but unfortunately, the hotel also owns a karaoke bar one level below the street, which is far from soundproof. The maintenance staff also started working pretty early on a Saturday morning. Fortunately, our room had an air conditioning unit, so at least that blocked out most of the noise. It felt like we must have been here during low season because the hotel was completely dead. Of the 24 rooms available, only 3 were occupied. Of course, this also meant that we had the place to ourselves and were treated as such. The outdoor dining area has a TV and being the American that I am, I asked if we could hook up the football game to my NFL Game Pass. They went and fetched an HDMI cable and made it happen. They even handed me the remote, making me feel right at home. About the only thing they didn't do was pull the couch out from the lobby to make for more comfortable seating. As far as the room, it's pretty spacious. The bed is comfortable. The complementary coffee isn't bad. They have safes, and the housekeeping does a great job. The food is also pretty good, though I was worried considering it appeared we were the only guests.
