Holiday Inn Express hotels are not typically described as charming. Attractive and modern, perhaps, but not charming. This hotel is among the most charming at which I have stayed. It's a colonial style building with an attractive lobby, patio seating area and pool area. The hotel is impeccably maintained, with staff constantly cleaning all public areas. The breakfast is more than ample: hot dishes include chilaquiles, huevos con chorizo, bacon, sausage as well as a variety of fresh fruit, pan dulce, cereal and yogurt. The coffee and hot chocolate were exceptional. Housekeeping and front desk staff were attentive and professional and ever helpful in providing information and setting up tours to local areas. GM Carlos was solicitous and welcoming, ensuring that all guests were happy. A number of plazas, including the zocalo were a short walk from the hotel, as were the many gift stores and marketplaces. A superb and inexpensive restaurant Quinque is only two blocks away. Superb tamales (about 65 centsUS) at Gloria's are across the street from the hotel, stand only open till noon. Only small disappointments: no refrigerator in rooms as most HEX' have...no small store for soda/snacks...poolside bar not open. No question we will stay here next time in Oaxaca ! read more
