Augustus Hotel - Room...sorry about the mess

Augustus Hotel

According to the proprietors, the Augustus Hotel is a four-star establishment. They are over the…read moremoon proud of this achievement and therefore mention it on their website, sales literature, and quite frankly wherever they can squeeze it in. They even have have four stars incorporated into their logo. Well, I don't know if they're grading on the metric system or what (out of 100 stars?) but in no way is this establishment four stars (out of five). The good news is that at $40 a night, at no time did I think this was a legitimate four-star hotel. The reality is that this is the only hotel in the area and they're doing the best they can considering the realities of the economics. After all, if opening a hotel in this town was such great business, there'd be more hotels in this town. My room is definitely on the small side. A bed, a small desk, bathroom, and closet covered by a curtain. In college I had a place like this for a few months. In my sophomore year, I think. I don't remember anybody ever saying "congratulations on your four star accommodations"...lol. Not even close. The interesting thing about the Agustus hotel is that elements of it are actually arguably multi star. The staff are on point. Professional, courteous, and helpful. The lobby is resplendid-ish in marble and fairly classy. The breakfast was delicious and included espresso coffees made to order. In sum, Im very happy with this hotel but I'm deducting one star from my review because they claim to be four stars not one or two. It's like if my brother told me that he's on the verge of winning podcaster of the year for his gripping entrée "cello time". Get over yourself, nothing with the word cello in it is winning anything. Or when my parents tell me that Sophie the dog, who is a complete idiot, is "very intelligent". She's doing the best she can with her walnut sized brain. Let's leave it at that.

Solid hotel to stay. We only stayed 1 night, so didn't get to experience it for very long, but…read moreenjoyed our time here. Our room was very spacious. Our previous hotel in Naples, as well as the one we stayed at in Sorrento, didn't have much floor space and we barely had space to open both our suitcases. We had to put at least one on the ground and step over it every time. So I really appreciated that I could walk around normally with both suitcases open. Hotel was clean overall, and location was nice. It was by the water so had a nice view. And there were a bunch of taxis parked next to it so when we had to take an early morning taxi to the airport, it arrived within a minute or so of the hotel "calling for a taxi" (which actually meant someone leaned out the door and waved one of them down). I'd stay here again.

Basic continental breakfast offerings at 20€ / person and 6€ cappuccino when the coffee shop right around the corner was much better and something like 7€ for 2 coffees AND pastries The temp in the rom only had a 4 degree range and it unfortunately was not the range we were seeking so could not get comfortable. And for a 4 star hotel. We would have expected to be able to adjust our own temperature The bathrooms were super cramped when there were both toilet and bidet. The door would not open all the way as it bumped against the toilet and we had to sandwich ourselves in between both to brush our teeth - with the added joy of the backs of our legs constantly bumping against either or both. Zero counter space. Nowhere to place towels for fear of it falling into either commode But given the location and the quiet room, we still have to rank this as A-OK

Every since I was a little kid watching the History Channel like a total nerd, it has been my dream…read moreto see Pompeii. So, when we booked a summer trip to Italy, there was no question that Pompeii was a must see. Booking a hotel was easy because there's really one property with great reviews and that's Hotel Diana. For 75 Euros a night, the price was just right. Due to some absurd travel delays, we ended up rolling in on the last train of the night from Naples. . . and it, apparently, went to the wrong train station in town. We called the hotel at 11 PM and explained our problem: the train station was now closed, there were no taxis, and we were the only ones there. The front desk clerk called us a taxi, who showed up shortly and gave us a ride. I didn't realize how wrong the wrong train station was until we drove over 20 minutes just to get to the property. For the record, the "right" train station is literally half a block from the hotel. Oops! Make sure you're choochooing into the right place, friends. When we got there, we were checked in promptly and given keys to our room. The room is sort of garishly decorated, but whatever. It was clean, it was a good size, and it had an ice cold ac. The bathroom was a good size and very clean. Despite our late arrival, the front desk agent pointed us to a pizza place down the street that was still open. Can I tell you? Literally the best pizza I have ever had. Phenomenal! And like, half a block from the hotel. Pizzeria Alleria, check them out. So good we went back twice. We slept well, grabbed the free breakfast in the morning (which was fine), and headed to Pompeii. Now, for some reason, I thought the Hotel Diana was right next to Pompeii, but it is not. You've got to walk about 10 minutes, which isn't much. Well, it's supposed to be 10 minutes, but we made a wrong turn and it took us quite a bit longer than it should have. Oops. There also seemed to be a rather happening hot spot right down the street from the hotel, so if that's your thing, that's a plus. Check out was easy and they helped us figure out the train schedule, which was much appreciated. All in all, I would definitely suggest Hotel Diana. It's got a great location, friendly staff, and great pricing.

Hotel is stunning!…read more Restaurant Mama: First meal of our trip was extremely exquisite! The flavors were so rich and delicious. It was the best beginning meal! My husband chose the beef ravioli, and I selected the truffle gnocchi with walnuts. My husband's ravioli were housemade and extremely tasteful. However, I would order this gnocchi Every single time, it was that good! The shaved truffle on top was the perfect edition! This will hands-down be one of my favorite meals ever! The view is absolutely breathtaking, we had the restaurant to ourselves because we chose to eat early that night and I'm so glad we did. It was the perfect beginning to an amazing trip.

Our bags were taken in from the car, we were offered cappuccinos, and we were even able to check in early. The room was fresh, clean, and really pretty. The bathroom is narrow but very nice and the shower has so many options for water flow and pressure. The bed was really comfy and they gave us complimentary sleep kits with ear plugs and masks, which we happily used. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating, they answered every question we had, and gave us plenty of tips and recommendations. Like this one: if you need your laundry done, there's a place around the corner called Arcoíris/Rainbow. It's cash only, and the closest ATM is down the road a few minutes called Gym Tonic. It's €25 and they will deliver it to your hotel! We only ate breakfast once, but it has lots of options and variety and you can order custom omelets and coffee. We did eat at the hotel restaurant M'ama and really enjoyed it. The food was great, the view was spectacular, the wine was delicious, and it was so nice to walk back to the room right after dinner!
