I really, really love this hotel. Sure, it's quaint, cozy, dated, whatever. But the room was always clean and the staff super-helpful with absolutely anything we needed. And we really don't need much other than restaurant recommendations and car service!
This hotel is located in the heart of the city, two blocks from the train station, one block from shopping, one block from bars, two blocks from awesome restaurants, and five blocks from sightseeing (and those are short blocks, by the way). It couldn't have gotten any better than that.
The room has a balcony and a fridge, too, and free breakfast in the mornings (continental of course but comes with a couple of meats, salami and some kind of ham). WiFi can only be accessed in the lobby but really, that's okay, because while you're sitting there you can get to know the people who work the front desk and they in turn will become accustomed to what you look like in order to keep some sort of security about the hotel.
The room key is weird - a huge, bulky thing that you plug into a socket that provides electricity when you're in the room. It's actually quite a smart idea - it keeps dumbasses from burning the lights all day long while they're not even in the room, and you turn in your key to the front desk whenever you leave so there's no chance you will lose it or be ripped off out on the street.
Really friendly staff - I know I already mentioned it but Alberto in particular is amazing - he has roots that he can trace in Italy back to the 1700s and he knows EVERYTHING. He's really just so awesome.
I had to dock one star because if I don't, Yelp users will call me an idiot for giving a well-worn facility a five-star review. And the truth is this: This is not a five-star place - you don't pay five-star prices and your shit isn't tooled in gold in these rooms. But this is definetly better than the best you can get for the low price you will pay in the best location in the city. read more
