I have mixed feelings about this hotel. While it has so many great features, I'm not sure if our experience was just a one off situation or recurring issue with some of the guests (based on some of the reviews I've read below). The Pros: Location: this hotel is situated minutes away from everything. Every single major tourist spot is within walking distance: Restaurants, Bars, Cafes, Shopping stores, museums, the Duomo, etc. Price: For the location, the price is great. Free breakfast: Breakfast was actually pretty good and tasty, enough to start us off on the right path every day. Cornettis, bread, pastries, cereal, cold cuts, cheeses, fresh fruit, eggs, coffee, juice, was served. Our room: It was a decent size; beds were comfortable. Room was clean. The Cons: Wi-Fi: There was no Wi-Fi in our room, even though they advertise Wi-Fi in each room. Neither my brother nor I could get cell service. We have two different US carriers and two different phones (one an IPhone and another a Samsung) and nothing. The only mediocre cell reception we got was in the lobby. TV: The TV didn't work. Water pressure: The water kept going on and off. Some days there was water, other days none. Sometimes there was a lot of hot water, other times not. Sometimes you were able to flush the toilet, sometimes not. Our room: The walls are so thin, we were able to hear entire conversations from the room next to ours. While this hotel has the potential to be a great due to its location, they definitely need to work on their issues. read more

We were on a whirlwind tour of Italy where we were trying to hit all the major spots and not spend our entire savings in the process. While I'd love nothing more than to luxuriate in the glistening five star properties of the finest Italian cities, my bank account appears to think that's not a reasonable thing for me to do. As such, my life is a constant battle between staying somewhere nice and finding a good price. Fortunately, Hotel Casci fit the bill perfectly. I originally booked another property via a blind Priceline deal, but when the name was revealed (after purchase) and I looked up the property, I was horrified to see a string of one star reviews complaining about a bunch of things, including a raw sewage smell. Eep. I contact Priceline and because the reviews of that other property were so bad, they instantly refunded my $120 (USD). Wow, you know it's bad if that happens! That was all well and good, but now we were right up on our trip and we suddenly had no hotel for the Florence section of our trip. I hit the internet review sites, trying to find something. Hotel Casci jumped out because of the great reviews and when I went to their website (where they offer the best, direct pricing), I immediately noted the 100 Euro a night price (they offer a cash discount) and booked right away. Almost immediately, you receive a lovely letter from the property, explaining about Florence and things you may be interested in. Great touch! We took the train in to Florence and walked to the hotel. It's certainly not a far walk, but if you're lugging a suitcase in July (during a heat wave), it's pretty miserable. If the weather is temperate, go for the walk, but if it's particularly hot or cold, just save yourself the misery and catch a cab. Check in was a breeze and everyone we encountered on property was very friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough how lovely they were. Our room was a good size with lots of plugs-- including a power strip charger thing for all of our devices. The bathroom had a step in it, which may be a problem for folks with mobility issues. Everything was clean and well appointed. The AC was magical during the heat wave. The wifi was good. We were also close to many things, which made wandering around on our limited time frame a breeze. We saw the major sights and ate wonderful food. Basically, exactly what you want in Florence. This hotel isn't the Ritz, but it's a lovely property that's perfect for a traveler on a budget. My husband and I were in Italy for our first trip out of the country as a married couple this late November. We stayed at Hotel Casci in Florence, after a quick decision was made based on great online reviews. We stayed in room 4, which we think is in the back of the hotel since when we opened our windows; all we can see is another side of a building. This worked for us since it made it a quiet hideaway in the night for resting. The elevator in the building might not be that far from our room that from the inside, we can hear a low steady sound every now and then. It didn't bother us much and had 3 good night sleeps while we stayed there. Prior to our trip after reserving the hotel room directly, Paolo sent an email with directions on how to get to the hotel from the SantaMariaNovella train station. We flew in to the Florence airport and took the downtown bus shuttle and got off at the station. With just our backpacks on us, we walked from the station to the hotel for 8-10 minutes. Hotel Casci is only a block or two away from the Duomo, which is pretty much the center of the town. The Accademia Gallery is the same distance in the opposite direction. There's a few restaurants on the same street but Florence seems to have small street blocks that getting to a restaurant 3-5 blocks away wont be too much of a hassle as long as you know which direction to go. Finding directions to tourist spots, restaurants, etc. was painless. The hotel has one of the fastest free wifi. There's a convenience store on the same side of the street in the same block for necessities. Pierre and Paolo along with Signora and Signor were very accommodating. Every morning during breakfast, we see Signora slicing up fruits and assisting us with the coffee machine. It felt like our mom actually came with us on this trip. They have a huge spread of breakfast items every day, so different from the regular Italian breakfast (amount and choices) from what we heard. They ensured that our room was immaculate on a daily basis. A fresh set of bar soap, shampoo and towels everyday was awesome. Our room came with a mini fridge too. The firm mattress is two twin beds joined together, which worked fine for us. There is a small-medium sized TV with 2 English news channels. We didn't bother it much since we only spent time in the room for resting/sleeping. They do have a huge TV in the breakfast area, which they kept on the CNN or BBC channel for their guests. The whole room with its amenities overall was very comfortable. They offer to keep your luggage if you plan on leaving the city late in the day past the check out time. We will certainly be staying there again! read more

At the moment of my arrival (11pm) the person that receive me was very helpful and answer all my questions followed by showing me my room. The breakfast was delicious and the old women that is around the cafeteria is very nice and ready to assist you with any of your needs. The location was great a few blocks away from The Palacio Vecchio and each one of the museums and attractions Florence have to offered. To summarize, great place to stay if you are coming to Florence. read more

This hotel was quite disappointing. I came to this hotel after seeing many recommendations in guide books. I don't know what they were thinking! This place is absolutely horrible. The beds are uncomfortable, the pillows are hard, and the towels are essentially tablecloths (that smell like vinegar). Not to mention the air conditioning is not even satisfactory. I was bitten by numerous bugs in this hotel. The buffet in the morning was sub-par. All in all, if you want a one star hotel with a three star rate, this is the place for you. read more

I stayed in that hotel on Jun 2019 for two nights. My two kids and I so surprised, first-val the air condition wasn't working properly, then we found out there are lots of bloody mosquitoes. we tried to kill them all and go to sleep, but the room was so hot. I went to complain to change our room, but the receptionist told me we have no room. I was sweating all night, it was like a hale. the next day morning I went to eat breakfast around 9:30, nobody say anything till I went to ask again if they can change our room. then after couple of hours she finally changed our room. tried to get credit for first night no way. tried to get credit from booking.com they denied everything. hotel is a disaster, imagine. we will never go near that hotel ever. read more

Extremely disappointed to hear that the hotel is under new ownership and did not review the contract of Pierpaolo! I had been staying there since 2004, and Pierpaolo was the reason the hotel was so good and why it felt like coming home when I arrived. Lack of loyalty and desire solely for profits are a bad business model. Will never stay here again! read more

Are you kidding me? This is at least a 3 star if not a 4 star hotel, and I have no hesitation in giving them a 5 star rating ! Let's start with realizing that you are staying in a 15th century PALACE that still has ceiling frescos, and then understand that this palace was subsequently owned by Rossini (ie the composer of the William Tell Overture, the Barber of Seville, etc.) and now the hotel is owned and operated by the Lombardi family. They run this hotel with all the care and compassion you can imagine and tend to their customer's every need. Their advice on tours, restaurants, etc were all excellent! We were able to skip the line at the Duomo for a very reasonable price (29 euro each for the tour) and had 2 excellent meals (see my related reviews). The location can't be beat: beside a Medici castle (which had an excellent Dali exhibit as well) and just a couple blocks from the Duomo. While not "central" between the Duomo and Uffizi, it is a little out of the more touristy areas yet still only 2 blocks to Accademia and a short walk to the train station. As reviewed by others the breakfast is very good. Our room was spacious for the 4 of us. AC was running strong though struggled in the 40C heat wave we experienced. Room was very clean. I can't say enough good things about Carla and Paolo and especially for Pietro's assistance in getting us reservations at Konnubio and Trebbio. I have stayed at 5 stars hotel in the past but would trade any of them to stay at the Hotel Casci! Stay here !! read more

Wonderful experience. Paulo and Paulo were extremely accomodating and helpful for our entire stay. They went above and beyond to please us. Wine country tour arrangements were very easy and all taken care of by them. Breakfast was a wonderful experience, and the staff was excellent. Never left hungry, and they had a decent breakfast selection. The room had a comfortable bed, good air conditioning and it was very clean. Would definitely stay there again. It was a great location, close to all shops, sites to see, and restaurants. read more

We loved this place! Very close to the duomo and walking distance to everything! The building is old and so charming! The folks who run the hotel are incredibly gracious. They made dinner reservations for us, asked what type of coffee we wanted each morning for breakfast, and were always happy to offer us directions or make recommendations as to where to go for a nice glass of wine before dinner. Both happy to help you practice your italian but also quite happy to help you out in English. The rooms could be a little loud in the early evening but after listening to our tour guide discuss housing for young people in florence- this is one of the "charms" of choosing to live in (or in our case visit) old town florence. Did I mention breakfast was great every morning?!? Fresh fruit each morning (and croissants, cheeses, pastries, cereal, and more)!! While the hotel is not a 5 star luxury type of hotel, it is exactly what I was looking for - old character and charm and very friendly hosts - located within easy walking distance to many of the place we wanted to visit and tour. read more

Paul and his mother gave us a warm welcome when the three of us landed late in the evening after a long trip in Florence. They explained about the hotel features and the surroundings. We had a comfortable stay in Room 26 at the back of the hotel for two nights. The morning breakfasts included healthy and fresh fruits and boiled eggs. Cappuccinos were served generously. The location of the hotel is great, you can walk to many of the city's attractions. read more

I was shocked and disappointed at this hotel; it was my one disappointment in a trip to Italy. The room they gave us was not, strictly speaking, a "room" more like a converted closet/storage area, or ? as was obvious from the industrial doors. It is even outside of the hotel's entrance, right by the stairs, so you can imagine how noisy. It was also drafty, unclean, smelly, and contained just two threadbare towels for the two of us. (We requested twin beds, as we are siblings, they gave us, instead, one large double, not at all what we wanted.) The water kept going off. Moreover, though I had reserved the room online months before arrival, the price was far higher than what I was told it would be on the booking site. The hotel staff would not give me a receipt from my ATM charge; I thought that was illegal? The location is excellent. But there are others in the area that are better. Can't comment on the food as we checked out. Please. Do yourself a favor. Spend a little more, get a little more. There's a reason this place is low-priced. It's strictly low-quality. read more
