A comfortable and very nice three night stay at a centrally located hotel in Florence, Italy. Adjacent to all the first time, must-do sites in Florence. Upon arrival, the doorman/bellhop gives you a warm greeting and opens the tall doors for your entrance into the lobby. The front desk folks are extremely informed about their historic and beautiful city of Florence. For a smallish lux hotel, the lobby is spacious with thick fabric accents, brass accents, and marble topped tables. The next afternoon, and after walking around the city square, we stopped at the lobby bar for a bottle of Pinot Noir. A relaxing experience after an educational tour of the nearby sites and museums. Our room was comfortable and spacious for a boutique hotel in the city-center. We had an interesting view of the city life on Via del Giglio. Our large king-bed induced rest and sleep. I recall taking naps in the afternoon to take short pauses from exploring the historic city. The bathroom is large enough to accommodate two people simultaneously. All the notions you require are provided in the bathroom. Our rate included daily breakfast, which had lots of traditional breakfast item options. Oh, and the bread, pastry, coffee, and juice selection is quite good. Italy knows sweets and coffee for sure. The service is friendly and warm in the main breakfast area. Florence has become one of my favorite cities to revisit. Yes, I would stay at Palazzo Gaddi again. I'm a fan. read more

This hotel was top tier exceptional in all aspects!! As you walk into the lobby you are greeted by the most amazing staff. Everyone is inviting and very welcoming. The lobby is a gorgeous grand space with a fantastic marble top bar and plush lounge with cocktail tables and couches. The scent is intoxicating as you enter smelling the scent of vanilla and musk. Just entering the lobby you know immediately that this hotel is built for a luxury experience. Our room was huge by Italian and European standards. We had a plush king sized bed with a bounty of luxurious down bedding and pillows. The bed was exceptionally comfortable and we loved it! The heavy curtains ensured that the room was very dark for sleeping even if you take a mid day nap. With the curtains open it's easy to gaze out over the busy Florentine streets. We slept like royalty here! The room had a desk with a welcome gift of Vinsanto and biscotti cookies. This was a nice touch of a local treat. It was delicious. The armoire had a mini bar well stocked, hangers, a safe, hair dryer and a clothes steamer. The bathroom is exceptionally well appointed. All toiletries were included even things like toothbrushes, shower caps and feminine hygiene products. There was a bidet with all necessary ph washes and drying towels. The bathtub is deep and easy to either shower or take a nice hot bath. My favorite thing was the towel heater and drying rack. This not only dries out towels quickly but stepping out of the shower and wrapping yourself in a warm cozy towel is divine! Every detail is thoughtfully captured. This hotel is extremely beautiful, but the people that run the hotel have endless grace and charm. They treat you as if you belong there and they want you to have every comfort. They have a bar on the first level, a restaurant for room service and daily breakfast. There is a rooftop bar that overlooks the Duomo. I do not have words for that view, it is spectacular. Very close to everything a tourist wants to see (Duomo, Uffizi, Academia, all the other lovely cathedrals, etc.) Very much in the heart of the old city. Very much a lovely staff who were happy to help us. We stayed 6 nights and were very much comfortable. The first night, we had a room on the first floor that didn't get very cool, and since they were having some blazing days and we are from over-airconditioned Houston, we needed it cooler. The staff generously brought us two fans and arranged to move us to a cooler room the next day. All we had to do was pack and they took care of the rest. Breakfast was standard Italian hotel fare, with slices of bread, fruits, cheeses, eggs, sausage, coffee, and tea. Nothing spectacular, but you could get your day started with it, no problem. I will comment that although the beds were the standard hard European hotel bed (compared to those in the US), ours was more comfortable than usual. The bedding was fresh and soft. The bathrooms were a tiny bit lacking in that I really wish they offered a slightly wider tub and or shower area. I kept hitting my elbows on the wall or the little glass wing that sheltered the rest of the bathroom from the shower. That's another thing. The shower needs to be completely enclosed or have a larger shield to keep the water from spraying out. My husband kept making a mess, since he's a tall guy and the water bounced off of him and into the room. Not his fault, just a feature of that kind of shower. So, there it is. I hope you give this place a try. I very much enjoyed staying here and recommend it highly. read more

Not a bad place. Right in the middle of the city, and everything in walking distance. Room service is good. Wine not particularly expensive, very cheap for US standards. The valet parking was annoying. When you check out of the hotel you have to then go somewhere else to pay for your valet parking, you cannot do it at the hotel. That's why I took a star off. A lot of people are on their way to the airport when they check out. The hotel needs to either let you know ahead of time, or just like other hotels you should be able to pay there. I protested however and gave them a card with a low limit that they then provided to the parking company over the phone, and I could go. I would stay here again. It is not as nice as the Westin, but has a lot more flair. The rooms are simple but it is a historic building, and the rooms have that nice historic look. The bathroom was the most modern. The bed was typical European, not very good. Personnel is generally very nice and courteous, I enjoyed all of them. Breakfast is good, great if you compare it to US or Canadian breakfast (which even at nice hotels is awful because the standard is low). read more

The hotel is beautiful and the staffs are very friendly and professional. We have no problem communicating with them in english. Rooms are decent size and you get to open your door with a actual Key, which I think is a vintage charm. The hotel has a rooftop bar where you can view the sunset and their dinning room is just amazing. I would give it a 5 if it wasn't for their not too good stateroom's air condition system. It was way too warm and there are no way of adjusting it... Our room has a balcony so we will open it to let air in, but the street is noisy when we had the balcony door open and there are mosquito(s) flew in from outside..... read more

My husband and I really enjoyed this hotel during our stay in Firenze . The staff was very professional and very friendly ! The location is great a 15 min walk from the train station and close to a lot of museums and the Duomo. The initial room we got was a good room without a view however after a few hours the AC stopped working . The hotel staff immediately gave us an upgraded room that was two stories (living room area downstairs , bed and bathroom upstairs) with a street view and later sent fruit platter up . It was very little inconvenience to us to switch rooms as we had only been there a few hours but they took great care of us ! The breakfast was good nothing substantial but there's a lot of options. We had dinner at the restaurant on our last night and the dinner was delicious smaller portions than other Italian restaurants just FYI. They have a rooftop bar that's beautiful and definitely worth going but as you can imagine the prices are way higher not surprising bc of the view and ambiance and it's still worth to have at least one drink up there! The only complaint i had was that the AC wouldn't get cold enough which i think is mostly my husband and I's preference and have realized a lot of hotels in Italy don't have great AC systems, it wasn't as if we were extremely hot but we like it very cold in the room. From checking in to checking out Hotel Astoria's staff was so sweet and professional. As soon as you walk in you feel like you are in a beautiful movie. The gentleman who checked us in had us all smiling. He had a way about him. I love that we were able to book our tours through the hotel as well. That was so convenient. When we walked into our room I almost felt as if it was an efficient style apartment similar to what you would find in NYC. It was wonderful. The bathroom was perfect for all three of us. There was a charming Italian restaurant downstairs that would play soft music for their guest on some nights. We would leave our window open and let the sounds come in. Don't worry. If you did not want to hear it simply close the window and the noise is gone. Breakfast in the main dinning area was nice. It was wonderful to see the large coffee canisters. I am a big coffee person and I hate to wait for it. lol read more

Forever Florence, Italy Who doesn't love this city? Probably one of my favorite cities in the world. The architecture and culture are mind blowing. My cousin and I traveled here, my second visit, and this hotel was all about location, location, location. Flew by myself to Florence, then by taxi to hotel. Difficult to get your bearings after a long solo flight, but this was worth the effort. Took one star away as my cousin did not have air conditioning in her room and was uncomfortable. You walk everywhere in Florence and this is the perfect place to land while taking in the various points of interest. Traveler tip - when in Europe if you decide to stay longer the price is negotiable so avoid booking thru agencies on line. They will bargain with you in person and often we have gotten discounted rates face to face-surperior discounts by simply asking. Also, the Statue of David - go late at night - no lines and you have the museum almost to yourself. Sit and take in the beauty of Michaelangelo in solace and peace void of tourists. Truly a memory to savor. read more

This is one of the worst hotel experiences i have ever been apart. As i was trying to book my room the day of, they made me wait 2 hours, telling me that they had 5 rooms available, and came back telling me there is no rooms available anymore because of some bs excuse. This is the most amateur establishment i have ever stepped foot in and i highly recommend that nobody even bothers to waste there time here. I do not even consider a 1 star hotel, i consider it a 1 star motel. read more

Pierro Gori, day shift front desk is probably the rudest person I have ever met. A moment with him is more than you will ever need. We definitely will never go back to this hotel. Yahoo travel isn't much better as we wanted to lodge complaint with Yahoo but you only get person in India, not really great command of the English language and long hold times (30 mins), then disconnects, defiantly will not use them again. read more

I stayed here for a class trip while I was in Florence. The rooms were large and decorated well. The morning breakfast was superb. I also enjoyed the staff members that held the door open for guests when they arrived at the hotel. The keys with tassels on them were cool too. The rooftop view was icing on the cake for this wonderful hotel. I would gladly book a room here again. read more
