We stayed at Hotel Baia for 3 nights in August 2022. We are frequent visitors to Cascais but have never stayed there, as we usually stay in Bairro Alto / Chiado in Lisboa. We decided to mix things up this trip and Hotel Baia did not disappoint.
We had an ocean/marina-front room with a balcony and the view of Cascais, Estoril and the coast was beautiful. Coincidentally, we happened to be there during Festas do Mar and had an overhead view of the concerts. The room was very comfy with plenty of closet and drawer space, although the TV was on the small side. The bathroom was sleek and modern with a stylish rectangular basin (although it doesn't drain well). The shower had the European-standard wand but thankfully had a wall-mounted showerhead as well (as opposed to a ceiling mount for women not wanting to get their hair wet). The only thing lacking was a coffee maker and a mini-fridge.
Speaking of coffee, there is nowhere to get coffee in the hotel until breakfast opens at 7:30AM. I couldn't find a pastelaria or cafe open before then nearby. The cafe in the train station was the nearest spot. The breakfast buffet was good - your standard European offerings of cheeses, meats, fruits plus hot eggs, bacon/ham and sausages. The milk for the cereal was cold. They have a Douwe Egberts machine that surprisingly made a very good coffee of choice.
The rooftop pool and bar are a big highlight of this property, although the water was a little on the chilly side in the pool. (Cascais' ocean temperature is extremely cold, so we were hoping the pool would be on the warmer side.) Joao, Jose and Patricia provided excellent service for us at the pool bar throughout our stay and we want to give them a special shout out!
We look forward to returning to Hotel Baia as soon as we can get back to Cascais and Portugal! Highly recommended! read more
