We had an enjoyable stay at Hotel Abba. If you're looking for a basic, clean, pleasant, and well-situated hotel in Amsterdam, this is a good choice. We paid approximately $100 USD/night for a double bed with a private (in-room) restroom. The staff was nice, the breakfast was good, and the location was great - with a tram stop right out front and the Albert Heijn on the first floor (for a last minute forgotten item like our toothpaste, or for fun snacks and drinks), as well as the Stach next door, you could not get a more convenient location for this price.
Our room was small but cozy, and clean - which is the most important thing to me! The bed was comfortable, and the sleep quality was good, although we were facing the street. I was concerned that the hotel is smoker-friendly as we do not smoke, however this was not and issue and there was no smell of smoke in the room. The bathroom was tiny - the toilet was in the same room as the shower - but it was just fine and there was a hairdryer. No mini-fridge, but even more expensive hotels don't have them nowadays. We did not hear our neighbors at all. Some people mentioned the steep stairs - yes, they are steep. And yes, there is no elevator. We were on the third floor and obviously we are younger, but we did not find the stairs to be an issue. Honestly, if you're in Amsterdam I would say the stairs are standard for most buildings in the city.
The breakfast was delicious and a nice spread - meats, cheese, fruit, three types of fruit juice, coffee, a large variety of teas, and plenty of toast and spreads. Hard boiled eggs, cereal and a couple of different types of milks - really, it was a good breakfast for any hotel. I especially enjoyed the option for meats, cheese, tomatoes, and cucumbers - definitely better than the average American hotel breakfast of sugary cereals and sub-par donuts. The hours of 8am-10am were convenient, and everything was restocked, and tables cleared by friendly staff.
We really enjoyed our stay at Hotel Abba, and I would recommend it to anyone visiting Amsterdam. I choose my hotels based on cost, cleanliness, and location, and Hotel Abba is excellent for all three. Bonus - there was even an adorable resident cat who hung out mostly near the reception! read more
