My go-to section is always the shoes, as all guests are courteous of each other within the small aisles and the deals are unbeatable. For example, I found these OC sneakers that are never on sale! They have a good selection of Sam Edelman and Jeffrey Campbell, which is surprising as those are recent bestsellers at Nordstrom's and typically wouldn't get passed down to clearance. Though I've been coming to this location for years, the employee I spoke to really motivated me to write this. The kindest older woman checked me out, immediately curious about my purchase because she needed shoe recommendations. It felt like she genuinely cared about my opinion and was happy to have a conversation. In retail, you know this is far and few. She assured me about the return policy when I asked about it and helped me quickly locate my rewards. I unfortunately cannot remember her name, but if it helps, she said she has an upcoming knee surgery, which I wished her the best on her recovery. She made my night.

After a bit someone came and asked all of us in line how they could help, we told them we had an appointment for a fitting and the employee led the entirety of the line to the rental section (even though we weren't wanting a rental; as our first time ever being here, we didn't know this is where we were going). We waited in line to be helped, somehow ending up 3rd in the rental line. After waiting for a bit the couple in front of us left (guess they got tired of waiting?), and eventually it was our turn. The gentleman that helped us was wonderful and helped answer our questions and get my fiancé fitted. Biggest problem: as were were waiting I glanced around the store and there were 5 employees standing together talking/chatting. The two employees working the rental station were working their butts off to help the 4 people in that line while the others were just chatting. It seemed they just wanted to push the work off on someone else so they could talk and/or play on their phones.

I walked in to look at a back up white dress shirt for my wedding on 10/3. Yes, I have may have broad shoulders and might not look like a extra slim when wearing a t-shirt, but those are the only styles that are tapered enough to not look extremely boxy around the torso. As I am looking in the extra slim area of the store, a lady comes over without even saying hello and says "uhh those are extra slim. We have slim and classic over here." Interesting way of greeting a customer for sure.. I let her know that I have been measured and have nice shirts from past events, but I wanted something else in case my current custom shirt was not in good shape after dry-cleaning, and I have recently been measured at Michael's where I got my suit. She stated that she was going to get a slim for me to try on (NOT extra slim like I was looking for or that I wanted). I go back and wait for her to bring out shirts that have obviously been tried on by others and she says, "I brought you a classic fit too in case that doesn't work." Well, the slim did not work AT ALL. It legitimately looked like an XXXL on me. Either she picked the wrong shirt, or their fitting is abhorrent - with that being said, she did not bring what I ACTUALLY asked for which was extra slim. I obviously did not try on the classic fit, and simply walked out. The lesson learned is that there is no reason to shop here unless you absolutely need something TOMORROW and off the rack with no tailoring is your only option. There are too many great choices around the city that will care about the customer's experience and provide them with options that actually make sense.

Sometime around the year 2000 I feel like department stores in general sort of started turning downhill and no longer had the pizazz they used to carry in the 90s, Nordstrom however, seemed to move with the times and remain classy and elegant. I always loved coming here to go back to school shopping back in the early 2000s and honestly I'm happy to report that not a lot has changed (in a good way). This is still the best place to park and walk into Oak Park Mall, hands down. Nordstrom is still pristine, clean, and has this really nice scent to it? I don't know if that's nostalgia playing games on me from my HS days but it just feels nice to shop here. On the day I walked in recently I was on a mission to visit H&M to pick up some back to school staples for my 1st grader, but thought I'd check out the kids section here first just in case there was a steal on some mini boden or something. Their kids area is packed with adorable clothes, and while I did see some decent deals on the sale rack everything was a bit pricey for my regular back to school haul so I continued on to H&M. All that being said though, I still enjoyed shopping here and seeing what they had. It had been a long time since I'd taken the time to peruse at Nordstrom and I'll be back - it's still probably the best department store in the metro!

I efficiently tried on the new size, scurried back to the register and even got signed up for a rewards card that saved me an extra ten percent. Not too shabby, ended up getting a deeper discount than if scored online.
