The kindest older woman checked me out, immediately curious about my purchase because she needed shoe recommendations. It felt like she genuinely cared about my opinion and was happy to have a conversation. In retail, you know this is far and few. She assured me about the return policy when I asked about it and helped me quickly locate my rewards. Went to get husband a suit. Husband needed a "classic" fit. They had none in his size. Said the…read morepants would fit in a different fit. Bought the pants and ordered an extra long jacket. Husband tried on pants at home and NO BUENO. Called the store instantly to cancel the jacket. Went back to the store THE NEXT DAY to return pants and make sure the jacket got cancelled. Returned pants and was assured that jacket was cancelled and that a refund would be forthcoming. This was May 26-27. Today is June 4 and only a very small partial refund has been issued. Salesperson refused to give me a receipt for the return said it was all good and would take 3-5 days to get refund. I had to file a dispute with Am Ex card people so they will not pay them but would have been nice if Men's Wearhouse would have honored what they said they were going to do. This is not the same store it was many years ago. I went to Macy's and was able to order the same suit they had in their store, in the classic fit, and received the special order jacket in two days. MW said they could not order it. Saved me a lot of money and Am Ex will not make me pay for the disputed amount so they are only shooting themselves in the foot and we will never go there again. Sometime around the year 2000 I feel like department stores in general sort of started turning downhill and no longer had the pizazz they used to carry in the 90s, Nordstrom however, seemed to move with the times and remain classy and elegant. I always loved coming here to go back to school shopping back in the early 2000s and honestly I'm happy to report that not a lot has changed (in a good way). This is still the best place to park and walk into Oak Park Mall, hands down. Nordstrom is still pristine, clean, and has this really nice scent to it? I don't know if that's nostalgia playing games on me from my HS days but it just feels nice to shop here. On the day I walked in recently I was on a mission to visit H&M to pick up some back to school staples for my 1st grader, but thought I'd check out the kids section here first just in case there was a steal on some mini boden or something. Their kids area is packed with adorable clothes, and while I did see some decent deals on the sale rack everything was a bit pricey for my regular back to school haul so I continued on to H&M. All that being said though, I still enjoyed shopping here and seeing what they had. It had been a long time since I'd taken the time to peruse at Nordstrom and I'll be back - it's still probably the best department store in the metro!

You know, mall retail stores might not be as dead as I thought they were. This place was poppin' a…read moreweek before all the Black Friday nonsense. I had to return some jeans that I'd ordered online and were too big. The last thing I wanted to do on a lazy Sunday was drive way out to the mall and do this, but despite my curmudgeon attitude, this was easy peasy. The store is loaded with goodies and sales and the staff was very helpful along the way. I efficiently tried on the new size, scurried back to the register and even got signed up for a rewards card that saved me an extra ten percent. Not too shabby, ended up getting a deeper discount than if scored online. Look as a busy parent, I'm not going to drive all the way out here often but it's good to know that it's available and helpful if I have any issues with my online orders.
