Underside of chicken patty was BURNT. Chicken patty was very dry.

I'd say this place is a 2.5 in reality. It's hit or miss. I've had some good, decent, and bad experiences here. And that's with regard to the taste of the food. We went here yesterday and they played in my face- why would you give me this dry, burnt chicken patty filled with AIR?! I've had the brown stew before and it usually tastes good. But yesterday, it lacked flavor and it was very heavy on the taste of oil. After yesterday's experience, I decided I won't be returning here again.

I was running errands and I was in the area and decided to give this place a try. There were a moderate amount of people waiting for food and I decided to get a chicken patty and a platter of brown stew chicken for dinner a little later on once I got home and was ready for dinner. On the plus side I will say that the portions were decent for the price. This is more of a carry out spot but they do have a "bar" area on the right when you first come in and a few small tables and a DJ table. They were playing Jamaican oldies which I didn't mind and saw as a good sign. It took about 20 mins to receive my order, which is standard as they are prepping the food in the back and it's not in a pre-warmed hot tray/sterno type of set up. I saw they also have weekend specials but I decided to play it safe with brown stew chicken which, theoretically, would be hard to mess up. While the portions were decent/generous as I mentioned, the chicken manages to be dry and too "wet" at the same time! And some of the rice was hard like it had been refrigerated and reheated. The stew sauce also wasn't that great. If you are not Jamaican/don't have Caribbean roots this would probably be fine for you, but I was not impressed. I would however, give them a shot with maybe one of their weekend specials and a smaller portion. You also may want to call and order ahead if you are in a rush to save you some time. Parking is decent, it's like a strip situation with several other businesses nearby and a few spaces reserved specifically for the restaurant's customers. So not terrible, but I'm not in a rush to go again soon.

Ahhh this place is truly amazing ! After my 3rd time here I just had to leave a review for all my fellows who LOVE to STALK restaurants reviews before we ever try them lol ! I'm not to big on eating meat so I usually get rice and peas with the brown stew gravy WITH extra gravy on the side OMG LOVE IT. SO GOOD.

I wish I could get my money back. I spent well over an hour browsing through Uber Eats, deciding what to order and settled on Hot Pot Grill. Major mistake! The shrimp salad was nothing more than welted shredded lettuce that's used for subs with a few carrots and cherry tomatoes tossed in. Furthermore, the shrimp was miniature. I also paid for extra pineapple jerk sauce and didn't receive it. It's a one and done for me.

I don't care how good the food is,and the Food Is Good! But if the customer service is horrible then the overall experience is horrible! I'm not new to hot pot, so I do know music is played in the restaurant. Today the music was to loud, I couldn't hear the cashier nor could she hear me! Every other word was "huh" At this point she starts to give a nasty look. She packs the bag, and ensure the order is correct. Again every other word is "huh" from both of us. I give her cash IN HER HAND!!! and she returns my by placing it on the counter! From a formal cashier that's disrespectful and Unacceptable from the person on the front line!

The food was delicious, hot, and authentic. The plate presentation and service was on point. The seating outside was like sitting in someone's backyard, nice.

Hot Pot Grill is my go to lunch spot whenever I'm in Capitol Heights. There is another Caribbean spot (won't name) that is also in the area, that I used to go to before I discovered Hot Pot Grill. Let's just say I have not been back to that other spot. For me I always look for value when it comes to lunch picks. Finding lunch under $10 is not easy if you're looking for quality food. Hot Pot has 3 lunch options...Curry chicken, Stew Chicken, and Jerk chicken. Each served with your choice of rice, (I always go for the rice and peas) veggies, and a drink for $6.50!!! For me the portion is just right for lunch, but others may need a few more pieces of chicken. They def give you plenty of rice which again for some may not seem like a great value. I recently had the curry and jerk. Curry for lunch and jerk for dinner (see pics)!! I still need to try the stew chicken. That will probably be on my next visit. I have ordered the dinner size oxtails, and those were amazing, and well worth the $16. In addition to the lunch value, the food is really good. Lastly, and most important...they are consistent. Food has always been good on each of my many visits!! My one tip would be to call your order in if you are in a rush. Depending on when you go in and what you order it may take some time to prepare. I love this place.

The menu offers breakfast, apps, entrees, soup, seafood, and pasta, but you really need to focus on their super cheap weekday lunch specials, where you can choose from Jerk Chicken, Curry Chicken, or Stew Chicken for $8! I went for the Jerk Chicken, in which I had rice and beans, cabbage, and cocoa bread - there was a generous amount of chicken, but the pieces were just chopped haphazardly, so you'll be biting down in some shattered bones. The chicken itself was juicy with some good spice on its exterior, but the flavors could have permeated more throughout. The rice and beans didn't have much flavor, and the cabbage was just okay. The cocoa bread was super greasy and fluffy, but i felt that this addition wasn't really necessary. Food could have been more piping hot, considering we consumed it pretty much right away. I wish that some hot sauce came with, just to spruce it up a bit. Note that the wait could take a bit, as they do have long lines during the lunch rush! +$8 weekday lunch specials

I ordered fried whiting, grits, and cheese eggs. Mmmm. I took it to go. I stopped for a coffee and then ate a portion in my car. For $20.00, the portions were plentiful. The fish was perfectly fried and seasoned; and the eggs were delicious. I am not sure if they intended to give me so many eggs; so I guess I have to go again. This is a storefront restaurant with seating for a few. It's warm, clean, and appears to be family owned. Service was great for breakfast and for the type of dish that was ordered.

Virtually everything but the breakfast and fried seafood is Caribbean influenced. This fish sandwich is top tier evident by customer pictures and consistent customer reviews. It is a good size piece of fish, fried, and seasoned well. It is very simple and the fry is executed well. As you can see from my photos, my breakfast sandwich experience wasn't a good one. The scrapple on coco bread was lacking significant flavor. It needs a better variety of cheese and I don't think the honey drizzle is the best option for a sauce. The customer service has be OK, however, because it has only been OK on the couple occasions I visited, I can understand some of the other reviews where people describe inconsistency in the area of customer service. There is indoor seating which looks rather comfortable. I'll continue to visit for their fried fish sandwich and I'll also try their Caribbean dishes at some point.

But now I seem to find it conveniently on 19th whenever I'm walking over there! Right now they're there on Mondays and Thursdays -- I recall searching for them on other days, but I didn't see them at the locations their website said they would be. But since it's been consistently coming to 19th Street, I have had the opportunity to have it twice, and I had the JerkBowl each time. The chicken comes off the bone so easily, and it is indeed JERKED! It's got a great taste, and the yellow rice it comes with compliments it very well. I will be trying their mac and cheese and greens in the near future, hopefully. I hope that they continue to get great business because this is food that should not be ignored! They seem to also actively become familiar with their regulars and they're super polite.

Located at 6120 Marlboro Pike., District Heights M.D. nestled between a tattoo parlor, and a couple other stores you'll find @luvplatesgrill with their beautifully designed black & orange signage!! This spot is momentarily take out only, they accept cash, and credit/debit, and they also have catering available. Their menu is concise, simple, and effective. They have sizable bowls like their DC Gumbo (with turkey sausage, and hormone free chicken $15), and their Homestyle Jerk Chicken (24 hour marinated wings smothered over red beans & rice $15). They also have some signature sandwiches like their "Jimmy Blue"(Maryland lump crab cake $20), and their "Fall off the Bone"(24 hour LuvRub-Ribs-w/BBQ sweet sauce $10). The sides include their World Famous Mac n Cheese (pictured-$8 reg. size), "Mamas Greens"(pictured-$8 reg. size), and their flavorful Red beans & Rice ($4 reg. size). On this trip I copped their Mac n Cheese, a Homestyle Jerk chicken sandwich (pictured-$6 on potato bread), and their 3 for $20 deal where I chose the Pan-seared Salmon ($3 extra), Mamas greens, and the 24 hr. Jerk chicken with the Red beans, and rice. So I started by dipping into the greens...FRESH, and seasoned to perfection!! I then took a bite out of the jerk chicken sandwich...I didn't want to stop!! It was glistening with flavor, a hint of bbq mixed with the jerk made for a tasty sandwich. Then I put a fork to the jerk wings, and watched the meat fall off the bone right into the red beans and rice. Spiced right, savory...it hit the spot. So I'm not a huge Salmon fan, but their pan seared fish with peppers, jerk sauce with a hint of bbq...made me a bigger fan!! Deliciousness!! Lastly I tackled that Mac n Cheese...I was leery via the price, and the "World Famous" title. When you go...GET IT...it's worth it. Customer service was phenomenal, they patiently explained their meals, and spotlighted the freshness of their food (which you can definitely taste). Parking is tricky, it's a very small lot they share. GO!! TRUST!! That's it.
