The inside is small with a little bar area and a few table chairs. There was a line and the large speakers so I got excited and thought maybe I found a proper spot. I should have just gotten a patty as a person recommended but my stomach wanted a meal. I ordered brown stewed chicken with rice and peas and it was the most bland brown stewed chicken I've ever tasted. I paid about $15 for the platter and I'm not motivated to finish it. Delicious, tasty, authentic, mouth watering as a think about this meal! I stopped in this shopping center to grab some items from the dance store a few doors over. I was on my lunch break running an errand for my daughter and decided I better get something to eat! I love curry but I didn't expect this food to be as spot on as it was! Let me get straight to the point.... This is the best Jamaican food I've ever had. Period. The oxtails fell of the doggone bone y'all!!! And they were seasoned masterfully. Somebody in that kitchen knew exactly what they were doing! At other restaurants, they usually add too much clove or one spice is dominant above all others. The seasoning on these oxtails was perfectly balanced. The rice and peas were absolutely delicious. The rice was delightfully chewy and ever so slightly sweet. The shredded cabbage had the perfect mix of crunch and spice. And speaking of spicy, let's talk about this sorrel. I've never had sorrel with so much ginger. This drink has some BITE baby.... get you some of that!! The beef patty was flaky, a little spicy and very good. There was a little too much crust (or maybe not enough filling) for me, but it didn't take away from the taste at all. Aside from the incredible food, young lady behind the counter was very nice. Jamaican spots are not really known for their hospitality but it was great to get a plate of incredible food, minus the attitude. Aside from a few seats inside of the restaurant, there is also a small bar as well as a seating area outside with a fire pit. I might have to come back and bring my girls. This spot closes at 8:00 p.m. during the week (9:00 p.m. on Saturday), so make sure you get here in time to get you a plate of this deliciousness. read more

There's a common belief that the worse the customer service is at a Jamaican restaurant, the better the food. However, this place is a unicorn--both the food and the customer service are exceptional. The lady who owns the restaurant is incredibly nice and accommodating. I remember calling for breakfast once, and they didn't have yam, dumpling, and banana. She told me to give her 30 minutes, and she literally made me the food from scratch, which wasn't even available on Uber Eats. You can't get better customer service than that! I've also used Hot Pot Grill for larger events like baby showers and family gatherings, and they always deliver fantastic catering services. They're truly a 10 out of 10 in every aspect. Hot pot is good stuff! Shoooot ya just gotta make sure ya get food before they run out. I've been here several times.. sometimes disappointed knowing I was late to get there but hoping for the best.. But let me tell you the times that I was able to prevail was epic.. The Jerk chicken plate got me buss out a reggae dance while the Pattie's got me remember that hat I miss about New York. I was running errands and I was in the area and decided to give this place a try. There were a moderate amount of people waiting for food and I decided to get a chicken patty and a platter of brown stew chicken for dinner a little later on once I got home and was ready for dinner. On the plus side I will say that the portions were decent for the price. This is more of a carry out spot but they do have a "bar" area on the right when you first come in and a few small tables and a DJ table. They were playing Jamaican oldies which I didn't mind and saw as a good sign. It took about 20 mins to receive my order, which is standard as they are prepping the food in the back and it's not in a pre-warmed hot tray/sterno type of set up. I saw they also have weekend specials but I decided to play it safe with brown stew chicken which, theoretically, would be hard to mess up. While the portions were decent/generous as I mentioned, the chicken manages to be dry and too "wet" at the same time! And some of the rice was hard like it had been refrigerated and reheated. The stew sauce also wasn't that great. If you are not Jamaican/don't have Caribbean roots this would probably be fine for you, but I was not impressed. I would however, give them a shot with maybe one of their weekend specials and a smaller portion. You also may want to call and order ahead if you are in a rush to save you some time. Parking is decent, it's like a strip situation with several other businesses nearby and a few spaces reserved specifically for the restaurant's customers. So not terrible, but I'm not in a rush to go again soon. read more

Hot Pot Grill is my go to lunch spot whenever I'm in Capitol Heights. There is another Caribbean spot (won't name) that is also in the area, that I used to go to before I discovered Hot Pot Grill. Let's just say I have not been back to that other spot. For me I always look for value when it comes to lunch picks. Finding lunch under $10 is not easy if you're looking for quality food. Hot Pot has 3 lunch options...Curry chicken, Stew Chicken, and Jerk chicken. Each served with your choice of rice, (I always go for the rice and peas) veggies, and a drink for $6.50!!! For me the portion is just right for lunch, but others may need a few more pieces of chicken. They def give you plenty of rice which again for some may not seem like a great value. I recently had the curry and jerk. Curry for lunch and jerk for dinner (see pics)!! I still need to try the stew chicken. That will probably be on my next visit. I have ordered the dinner size oxtails, and those were amazing, and well worth the $16. In addition to the lunch value, the food is really good. Lastly, and most important...they are consistent. Food has always been good on each of my many visits!! My one tip would be to call your order in if you are in a rush. Depending on when you go in and what you order it may take some time to prepare. I love this places food!! I was devastated when my favorite Jamaican restaurant in Upper Marlboro closed. I could not find a spot with food as good as them until I came across Hot Pot Grill! The food is always freshly prepared. It's seasoned so well, the meat is tender and the restaurant always looks clean. The only reason I didn't give it a 5 is because I think they could use more help during the lunch rush. A lot of people come in for the lunch special, only have a 30 min lunch break, and end up having to leave because it takes so long. Other then that this is DEFINITELY a place I HIGHLY recommend!! The location is in a small commercial area Customer Service: Both times the cashiers were nice Food (3.5/5): The beef patties and cocobread are delicious. However, during my second trip I tried the Jerk Chicken Platter and it left a bit to be desired. There are two options on the menu (jerk and jerk bbq). I was not asked which I preferred, but that was ok. The food was cooked well, but it was a bit flavorless initially. Overall this place was good. I ordered on Door Dash and I received my food in less than 30 minutes. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and peas and steamed vegetables as my sides. I also had a tea/lemonade mix and a side of plaintains. The chicken was good it had a nice mild grilled flavor and was really moist. The spicy level was mild. I personally like extreme spicy jerk chicken so I was a little disappointed. Also they had no way to choose white meat or dark meat. Overall this was good and I would recommend this if you are not a fan off real spicy food. The rice and peas and vegetables were decent...pretty standard flavor. The plantains were goo but I wish they were good more. It would be nice if plaintains came with the meal (Payne 1 or 2) instead of me having to pay 3.50 for a large size.
