I always encourage my kids to support small businesses, so we were excited to check out Hot Jewelry Box. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing and upsetting. My daughter and her friend were made to feel extremely uncomfortable--being closely followed around the store, repeatedly asked if they needed help, and even questioned about the bracelets she was wearing, as if she might have stolen them. Seriously? I went back to the store to speak with the manager, but no one seemed interested in having a real conversation. When I asked the employee who had followed the girls why she was doing so, she admitted it was because they looked "suspicious." That's not just unprofessional--it's unacceptable. It's disheartening to support a small business only to have your kids profiled and treated this way. I hope they take a hard look at how they treat their customers, especially young ones who are trying to shop independently and respectfully. read more

This jewelry store is jam packed, and everything sparkles! It's not top of the line costume jewelry, but most pieces look like they'll last a few wears. Some of the prices are a little too high IMO. They also have scarves, belts, bags and face masks. The associate will ask you if your item is a gift because they have gift wrapping I presume? If it's not a gift, it comes in a little sachet and a cute envelope. 10% discount for senior citizens, which is super nice. I went to a Ke$ha concert last month and I thought I'd never see more glitter...until I walked into the Hot Jewelry Box yesterday. This surprisingly vast retail store is packed ceiling to floor with costume jewelry in every size, shape, style & color, in varying degrees of sparklyness--from "Wow, that's sparkly" to "BLING BA-BLING!" However, there is stark contrast between the glitter of the jewelry and the less-than-lustrous countenances of the employees. I walked in carrying two dresses I was looking to accessorize, and even though it was pretty obvious that I was serious about making a purchase (possibly several) and the shop was almost deserted except for me, neither of the young ladies manning the shop greeted me or offered me assistance. The salesgirl I eventually approached was very sweet and obliging, but in such an overwhelming environment, it is important to offer assistance. That being said, the selection at the Hot Jewelry Box is extensive and affordable, so you can buy that feathered cuff bracelet that you'll only wear once free of shame, and save the shame for other things--like a pint of Ben & Jerry's or a Real Housewives of New Jersey marathon...or possibly both? read more

This store is too cute. Seriously, it can get a little overwhelming. The selection of costume jewelry is huge and is a great selection, at that. Everything is pretty shiny, you may need to bring some shades. However, if you are looking for awesome/trendy costume jewelry, scarves, bags, hair clips/bands etc this is the place to go. This is a fun place to shop for cheap costume jewelry. When I say cheap I mean cheap price and quality. The selection is overwhelming as so much product is packed into an average sizes downtown retail store. I rarely go to Ridgewood but had to find accessories to match my bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding. I was helped by a salesperson who showed me the most expensive 'cheap' jewelry in the store. I ended up buying rhinestone earrings and a bracelet. I only wore the bracelet two times before it lost 17 rhinestones. I am disappointed in the quality and won't be shopping there anymore. I wanted to bring it back but never had the time to go back to Ridgewood as I had to travel for a few weeks after the wedding and then forgot about it. I doubt they would have accepted the return as I had worn it. I recommend shopping here if you only want to wear the jewelry a few times. read more

Beyond the fact that this is a pretty ridiculous name for a store - one that seems to be a cousin of Rachel Zoe-isms (I die) and Chinese take out menus (Lucky Happy Garden) - the Hot Jewelery Box store is actually pretty clutch when it comes to finding the right accessory to go with your little black dress/prom dress/bridesmaid dress/etc. There are purses, watches, all manner of jewelery, scarves, coat pins, head bands (with feathers!) and I'm sure more that I missed. Though I wish fewer pieces had rhinestones, I walked out with three stellar items, all sparkle free, and I've been searching for complimentary outfits and reasons to wear them all week. Starting around $15 (with some baubles even cheaper) and with true knock out statement pieces only starting around $40, Hot Jewelery Box's prices are great. The styling (minus the rhinestones) is pretty cool too - with a lot of things I hadn't seen before and a strong reliance on bold colors and interesting materials, from beads to rubber to knit. Though I miss Horsefeathers, the Ridgewood jewelery store of my youth, if I were a kid walking into town to go window shopping Hot Jewelery Box would totally fit the bill. And now as an adult, I'm happy to have their wide array of wares to match my every fashion whim. read more

One of the best places to shop downtown Ridgewood- staff is super friendly and helpful, and they have amazing prices (I saw the same items at a smaller boutique over the weekend​ and they were charging about double the price this place was!) One thing I would say is that I bought my mom earrings​ that broke, but that could have happened for a number of reasons and I do enjoy the rest of their products. read more

I came here for the first time yesterday to find jewelry for my wedding/bridesmaids. This place is an orgy of jewelry.. My friend and I were in there for probably close to three hours and I think I could have easily spent another three hours just browsing. The girls who work here are helpful and friendly. I ended up making a couple purchases and so far I am happy with what I bought. Also, I think it's really nice how they cater to brides, when you register with them they actually give you 20% off your purchases up until your wedding date no matter how many times you come in. I think this is a great incentive for business and I will definitely be back as we had a good experience. The only reason I took away a star is because of how overwhelming the place is to shop in. My 14 year old daughter went to the Hot Jewelry Box with 2 friends on Friday. She was accused of shoplifting after she entered the store wearing a watch that they had for sale there. They detained her, examined her watch, and asked her repeatedly if she stole the watch. Finally they let her go. When I returned to the store with my daughter later, the store employee who had accused her of stealing the watch was incredibly rude to me, while the owner stood there. I requested that we look at the video surveillance together because I knew it would show my daughter entering the store with the watch on. They acknowledged that they do have video surveillance, but refused to view it with me. Be careful if you let your teenage daughters shop here. They may be accused of shoplifting too! read more

I love this place. I first came across it 2 years ago. I don't live in the area, but had found a place online to get a headband for a newborn (I was pregnant at the time). The store I had found online was actually gone, but we stumbled across this place on the walk back to the car and fell in love. At the time they had a small selection of kids headbands, mostly for first communions, etc, but we were able to find something to use. Two years later, engaged and looking for a unique piece of bridal jewelry and after searching and seeing the same old style and small selections of other stores, I suggested we travel the hour to go back and see if they had something at Hot Jewelry Box. Firstly, they're children/baby selection has increased (to my now two year olds delight) and they had so many adorable and unique barrettes and headbands for children that we purchased a few items for her. Secondly, when we told the owner we were looking for bridal jewelry she said they had opened a bridal jewelry boutique two doors down as well! The bridal boutique had higher quality costume jewelry, also a crazy huge selection. I've been so used to looking for bridal jewelry and having 20-30 pieces to choose from. This place literally has hundreds of different earrings, bracelets, necklaces, head pieces, literally anything you could want. We ended up getting the bracelet from the bridal store and finding the earrings in the original Hot Jewelry Box, which offers so many choices my only "complaint" would be that it's almost overwhelming the amount of options. She was extremely helpful and patient and took all the time in the world to show you all the different options, with absolutely no pressure to buy. It's a one stop shopping experience where I purchased all my jewelry for my wedding and all my jewelry gifts for my bridesmaids. They have a very large selection of costume and cubic zirconia jewelry, sterling silver and Swarovski crystals, and gorgeous clutches. I recently visited this store after they expanded from one to two storefronts on the main drag of Ridgewood downtown. For me, this is like a Forever 21 of fashion jewelry and casual accessories - a consummate collection, with everything at a very reasonable price. The jewelry is arranged by color (white / pearl, bead color) then type (necklace, bracelet, earrings). I was thrilled to find a section of turquoise colored jewelry and another for glass pearl jewelry. I got two necklaces (one turquoise, the other pearl) for $16 each. The entire back wall is their expansive selection of sterling silver jewelry, as well scarves in a multitude of colors and textures. They also have inexpensive hats and basic handbags to round out the merchandise. My only complaint is that there aren't enough mirrors to check out how you look with the wares, and there is no return policy (exchanges only within 14 days), so make sure you really want what you are purchasing. Also, it can get a little crowded and cramped - but maybe it was my fault for shopping during prom season? Overall, I recommend to the fashion jewelry fanatic, or someone who is just looking for that pop of jewelry for an outfit. read more

A friend turned me on to Hot Jewelry Box. I complimented her on a diamond pendant she was wearing. She shyly told me where she got it and that she paid $12.99. I couldn't believe it. I have been there twice since. On one trip I bought the same necklace I complimented my friend for. I get tons of compliments whenever I wear it but I haven't told anyone yet what it costs. On my second trip I purchased earrings, a bracelet, a clutch, and a decorative hair comb to be worn to my daughter's wedding. The cost for all those items was a shade less than what I would have paid for a gorgeous bracelet that I was contemplating at the bridal salon where my daughter bought her dress. I feel like I got a bargain and did not compromise at all on quality or appearance of the items I purchased. Soon I will be going for a third time with my daughter-in-law to see what she can find to wear to the wedding. I travel over 50 miles to get there but I feel it is worth the trip. If you're looking for items that will break within a few weeks and a manager who is passive aggressive and rude (and an owner who refuses to talk to call you to discuss), you've found the place! This is my first Yelp review and I had such a bad experience with Hot Jewelry Box that I feel the need to share with other people in the area. I went into the store for 3 headbands for flower girls and ended up buying those plus a lot more- a bunch of bows and two expensive kids bracelets totaling $200. At the checkout line, I saw a keychain that looked beautiful and picked it up on a whim- then realizing it was $18.99 but purchased it anyway. I waited to use it for a few weeks and when I put it on my keys after just 10-14 days of use, the keychain fell apart when I was in a public place and I couldn't collect the beads (also because I have a newborn, toddler, and just had surgery). I finally got the time a week later to return to the store to show them the keychain and see if they would exchange it and the associate showed the "manager" Kathy who actually denied that I had bought it there (despite a receipt), gave me a hard time for not bringing all of the broken pieces with me, then told me it looked "worn." The quality of their products is horrible and clearly they don't even know their own inventory. She was passive aggressive and rude in front of other customers and as I left told me the owner would call me the next day (today). Today Kathy herself called me back and said the owner would not be calling me, and after further explaining the situation to her, she said I could buy a new keychain at 30% off. No thanks- I'm not piling any more money into this establishment. I didn't even ask for my money back- and had they just exchanged it for a new keychain, this could have been easily solved. Sadly, this store has items that are overpriced and will no doubt fall apart within a few uses (read the other negative reviews), associates who are not at all helpful, and management that is rude and passive-aggressive (or who won't even talk to you). They have a huge overwhelming selection and in my opinion I'd rather spend my money on pieces that will actually last and give my money to people who treat their customers kindly. For $18.99 they lost a customer who would have spent hundreds. I'll update if I ever get a positive response from them! read more
