Went in on Wednesday for lunch for the first time. The staff was friendly and was able to answer the questions that I had. The dining area was clean with plenty of seating. My wife and I were on a road trip and were delighted to find Hot Head Burritos. First time either of us have been to one of these and expected a chipotle knock off. Instead we had an affordable and filling lunch. My wife had the Hawaiian bowl and I had a make your own burrito. I was thrilled with the large amount of choices and the worker there was happy to help me choose a good sauce for the meal. The restaurant was clean and the interior had lots of fun decor and signage. If you're looking for an alternative for the cold and corporate feeling Chipotle's, Hot Head Burrito is an upgrade in my opinion. I hope a franchise comes out to the greater Indy area soon! read more

Every time we are in town I INSIST we go to hot heads. Their huge selection of sauces makes your order endlessly customizable (and endlessly delicious). They might be a small step below Chipotle in terms of quality, but the variety of options for meats and toppings and customizability more than make up for it. Even if you aren't a fan of spicy food, they have some nice mild quesadilla options. I can't tell you how badly I wish there was a hot heads where I live, you lucky lucky people. read more

It's a new quick serve restaurant, what do you expect? Confusion, mayhem, etc. etc. are typical. It's been two days since they opened Saturday afternoon, and I figured that they might have everything working and a little better experience for them and for the customers. I passed one of these stores in Hamilton on Saturday with the company truck out front and I wondered how the food was, but I stopped at Gold Star Chili for a burrito bowl. It's good as a comparison. As I drove into the parking lot, I was stunned at all the vehicles. It shares the parking lot with Family Video, so it was surprisingly full. In the store, there was a small line, but nothing more than any other fast food place would have. As their set up goes, it's a lot like Chipotle. They ask what you want (taco, burrito, burrito bowl) and you move down the line and get the fillings and toppings. I had a spicy Steak burrito bowl with corn, onions, tomatoes, and green sauce. That was $6.79. I had a coupon for a free drink. They have a 2 for 1 deal for $10.99 after 5 p.m. or any time with the coupon. They had a decent number of seats in the place, both booths and tall tables. They could really use a blind on the west window. The burrito bowl was good but like Chipotle, I'm not sure it was worth $6.79, although the Gold Star Chili burrito bowl was $5.99 and I had to pay $1.99 for my drink but there was more. My only complaint about the food was that the steak was chewy, like stew meat, rather than steak. A gentleman was visiting customers in the store with a tray of sauces. He explained what he had and said that they had spicy sauces. Minutes later, he returned with their Habanero (Habañero?) sauce and their Sweet Habanero sauce. I really didn't care for the sweet sauce. The other sauce was mixed with tomato sauce, most likely, and wasn't bad but it wasn't really spicy, either. (I was able to just drink the sauce without a problem.) Habaneros by themselves just seem acidic to me, with zero taste. The staff were friendly and that's a good reason to go there. Poor man's Chipotle. The meat is not the best quality. Gristly steak and old-tasting chicken. Chips out of a bag. Had a catered lunch (not my choice obviously) and it was nothing but regrets after I ate it. It was one of those things where you're at work and it's lunchtime and you're starving and someone's brought the food. Seemed like a good idea at the time, but by the time I finished I felt gross. Took care of the hunger at the moment, but I would not choose to eat here again. No way. read more

Just ate a small "catered" buffet at work from Hot Heads. We had visitors from Canada, US and Mexico and everyone loved the food! I could have eaten the entire large serving of Guac, but thought the others might want some ;) The only recommendation I heard was to serve the tortillas over a Sterno so they would be warm, too. So I've come to conclude that Hot Head Burritos is basically chipotle meets Buffalo Wild Wings. It's laid out pretty much identically to chipotle, but the main difference here is that there is much more variety of sauces & toppings. Things hot head burrito has that chipotle doesn't have: 1) At least a dozen different flavors of sauces 2) Nachos & Quesadilla options 3) Ground Beef 4) additional toppings such as pineapple & banana peppers I've been 3 times now and have had a new combination every time. It's all been pretty good so far but nothing that has knocked my socks off. I will probably visit here more than chipotle based on the fact that it's more conveniently located for me & lots of different sauces to try are fun! read more

Ignore the older reviews that are below 4/5 stars... I'm only through here a few times a year when work brings me this way. Hot Head is becoming a must-stop. The place has changed a lot in the past year or two. Great food, great service, great options. The food is priced right when you look at the quality of ingredients. I would love to have a place like this in northeast Indy but for now, I go to Chipotle and Qdoba and dream of my next lunch in Richmond. read more

I agree with the reviewer who said Hot Head is like subway but with burritos! OPTIONS OPTIONS! They have a lot of sauce options (you can mix n match more than 1 sauce) Taco options Nacho options Quesadilla options Onion, pepper. Jalapeño, mad salsa options Bowl or wrap option And best of all-- SIZE options. That's right. At hot head burritos you don't have to get the ginormous bursting burrito size that Chipotle forces customers into. You can get the small! The atmosphere is pretty much like a subway with a little Tex flare. Service is excellent. The downside was that they only have Pepsi products and my burrito was cold when I got back to the office to eat it. I also was overly-cautious with the spice and know to punch it up a little next time. read more

It is no Chipotle, but it is affordable, tasty, and fairly healthy and natural as long as you stay away from the sauces. It is nice to have this 5 minutes from my work on the west side of Richmond, and I do enjoy getting take-out from there. It's like if Subway and Chipotle had a baby. My usual: large bowl, brown rice, black beans, grilled chicken, grilled peppers and onions, corn, green salsa, cheese, sour cream. Mandy gets jalapeños and banana peppers instead of the grilled peppers and onions. We always get two of each bowl, and keep the other one for supper the next night. They keep well for a day no problem and heat up just as tasty as the first night. read more

Well, Hot Head's already surpassed half of Richmond fast food places- they got our call in order 100% right. They were also very nice, if a little scattered on the phone. The food itself is a strong, solid meh- not terrific, not horrific. I'd definately eat here again without complaint if anyone suggested it. They get high marks for the wide variety of choices available, but a scolding for having such a craptastic website that doesn't do much to explain or explore these options. With so many sauces to choose from and no descriptions of them online, I was left choosing the house sauce- on the side- for my spicy steak and pico quesadilla. I was not at all disappointed, though the sauce is a strange one. I will pass on the "spicy steak" (or any steak) in the future, as it's incredibly bland and merely serves as an odd textured filler. Personally, I'd give it a 3.5, heavily taking into consideration the numerous options and flavor combinations. read more

This place used to be so good now that it has been open for few years they have let it go to hell. I cannot get big bowls made the way i want it because they have gotten so skimky you can see the bottom of the bowl. I would not waste my time here used to be a good product for the money but is no longer the case. read more

I ordered a big bowl with chicken and vegetables with pinto beans and rice. Along with cheese. And sweet habanero sauce. Well I get all the pinto beans, (more than anyone would want) and the rice (she kegged that shit) and the chicken. Very little chicken at the most. So then I have to wait for the "fresh" vegetables to get done which if you think about it it dinner time shouldn't you have the vegetables filled up and cooked way before 4 PM? So then after 5 mins I get my vegetables and she puts the habanero sauce up on there and i asked for extra like I did the vegetables and chicken but nooo she puts one squirt on there. And the cheese? I ask for extra and it's a little sprinkle. I'm willing to pay for the extra but hey it whatever. I'll head on over to Chipotle where my money will actually get me what I want. read more

This place is awful in every possible way. Awful environment: No one was available to ask about take out order, so I had to wait in long fast food line. Awful, awful value: menu is a scam. There are no prices on anything so that have no idea what your order total is going to be until you get to the register. The total was 18.00 for 2 burritos with chips!!! The food quality? Awful. They should be embarrassed about chips. They taste like cardboard. They give you enough salsa for 2 chips! Insane. Burrito was not as awful, but the meat filling was lukewarm to cold. Barely any meat. Ate half of burrito before I got to meat. THIS PLACE IS AWFUL! DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! Is Taco Bell great? No. But it is better than this place and the prices don't make you feel like you were just mugged. read more

I have given Hot Heads more chances than they deserve. There is really only one negative that completely ruins this place for me. When they first opened I tried a burrito bowl (chicken). The amount of chicken to rice was about was perfect. Every time I've gone back since the amount of chicken has gotten less and less along with the employees willingness to make my bowl the way I want it. Giving the customer a dirty look because they ask for sauce on the side or extra lettuce is entirely unacceptable. I hate to bring up Chipoltles, however I don't feel that having a dozen sauces to choose from makes up for the ridiculously small portions of protein. On my last visit I felt genuinely ripped off. I just can't justify paying almost 7 dollars for a bowl made up almost entirely of rice and beans. I feel like a crackhead chasing that first high, I'm not sure what happened but I wish I could get a burrito bowl like the first one I had.
