Christoph enjoying a beer with that great Hot Chip smell

I need to stay away from this place for a while if I'm ever to lose any weight! Their chips are absolutely mouth-watering and I'm incredibly tempted to try every variety when every combination of seemingly disparate spices/sauces seems to combine into such a winner. Bonus points have to go to the team preparing such beautiful food, as they are the most incredibly lovely people you'll encounter, and well worth a chat whenever they're not busy serving the rest of their customers! (and often even during... mwah ha ha).

Let's get straight to it shall we? You need to go here. 1. The chips are excellent. Good portions, perfectly cooked, just crispy enough and seasoned well with a good amount of tasty toppings. 2. The team are just generally the best people. Really cheery, lovely and fun guys. You can tell they really love what they do. Love it!

Yesyesyesyesyes. AMAZINGLY delicious chips, smothered in an interesting but not too OTT variety of toppings to make a filling meal? All for around £7 or £8? Yesyesyesyesyes. Brian and I went to #SecretBritxon POP event but found the queues and crowds a bit overwhelming so we beat a hasty retreat and decided we would rather check out Hot Chip, which we found through the Secret Brixton map and we're so glad we did. Tucked away off the busy road is a little enclave of street-food-type places, complete with seating. Score. The ladies at Hot Chip couldn't have been nicer. We had a good chat before and after we ate and it's clear they care about their food and their customers and it really shows. I had the Turkish chips, a moreish mound of chips dusted in a delicious spice, topped with minced lamb, tzatziki, olives and herbs. The lovely fat chips weren't greasy but not dry either, and had a lot of flavour on their own (fried in rapeseed oil, apparently!), with a firm outside and a fluffy pillowy interior. The toppings complimented the potatoes well and were really generous - I hadn't had much for lunch and was starving and still couldn't finish it. I sampled some of Brian C's steak frites with peppercorn sauce and garlic mayo (brought over to us in a piping bag, clearly homemade and delicious!) and it was just as good. I just need to figure out how many times a month chips can be a meal without me being considered a crazy lady...

The Mayfair Chippy - My to go order was so tasty. Fries could have been crisper but the fish was on point!

The chips were thick-cut, properly salted, and tasted like real chip shop fries instead of frozen fast food fries. The place was completely packed, so I ended up eating on the stairs about a block away, honestly felt like part of the experience. One of those spots that doesn't try to reinvent fish and chips. it just does the classic version better than most places. Would easily go back next time I am in London.

(I heard the non GF version was also excellent.) Platter came with flavorful mushy peas, tartar sauce, and a spicy mayo (or currry for the non GF platter). Chips were large and delicious. Portion was huge, and easily shareable. Delicious!! Service: It was ok. We waited in line for a really long time (more than an hour) but we were checked on from time to time. Once we were seated and ordered, no one really checked in, but we asked if we needed something. Ambiance: Cute outdoor seating. In door seating was okay. Reservations get to go into a back room which seemed nicer. Lovely side street in a crazy busy popular area. It's a solid 4.5 stars for what it is because the food was so good. I'd return. Tip: Make a reservation a couple of weeks in advance, or be prepared to wait...a long time...Or, skip the line to order takeaway and go enjoy your food!

I'm not sure on that, it's just something I thought we caught on to before we left and there started to be RESERVED tents going on the tables. We went and had Scotch Egg, Calamari, Arancini, fish & chips and STICKY TOFFEE PUDDING. Oh. My. Goodness! First the Scotch Egg. I don't want to be a Debbie Downer but it was....ok. It was a little plain. A little tasteless. They could have thrown a few spices into the meat, just a little something. To say that we've made better at home wouldn't be far out. But still good. The calamari was cooked just right. It's what you expect out of a calamari appetizer. Was it the best you'll ever have? Not really. Worth the price? Add it to your appetizer list! The rice balls, which is arancini is, were good. Add a little salt to the top and they were, also, as you'd expect. The fish & chips were exactly as we were hoping when visiting an English Pub for fish & chips. The fish was perfectly cooked, the coating was fabulous, and of course the chips were a perfect compliment to the fish. A great fish & chips experience. The star of the show was the Sticky Toffee Pudding. What a treat! Granted I've nothing to compare it to, this was my first time having it, but whether I've had it before or not THIS was perfection. Perfect texture, the flavour was amazing, the caramel drizzle was perfectly proportioned, and the little bit of ice cream on the side was just perfect. I would go back here simply on this dessert alone. As for the drinks, because, you know, it's a pub....I couldn't say. I don't drink alcohol but my Diet Coke was great! Fresh bottle! ....I suppose I could have gotten a non-alcoholic beer. Wait....did they have non-alcoholic beer there? SOMEONE FIND OUT IF THEY HAVE NON-ALCOHOLIC BEER THERE. The atmosphere was great. I can see how it would be perfect in the evening and on into the night. Very welcoming with a great looking bar.
