Hot Chip? Hot Damn! Firstly the food - it was frankly awesome. I opted for the steak frites, which come with pieces of steak and peppercorn sauce. The steak was sliced up and of a perfect temperature, and the peppercorn sauce was so good that I would have happily drunk it as a soup - seriously, it's better peppercorn sauce than I've had in fairly expensive steak restaurants. Then as they brought the food to our table, the other lady rushed out with a piping bag asking if we wanted garlic sauce. A piping bag. When someone offers you garlic mayonnaise in a piping bag, you just say yes. Because that's home made garlic sauce and it'll be awesome, and in this case, I was not wrong!
As for the fries, they're really quite good. They're cooked in rapeseed oil which reduced the calories and also with the skin on, which is varies the flavour in a good way. They're not the crunchiest chips I've ever had, but certainly the tastiest and I don't think crunchy would have worked at all well with the dish overall, so I was pleased to have the ones that they did.
We ended up coming here because of #SecretBrixton, and I'm glad because otherwise I would never have come to Brixton let alone Hot Chip. So a big thanks to the organisers for that, and for Hot Chip for being involved. We got chatting with the two ladies working there and the combination of the quality food and frankly just how lovely there were makes this one of the easiest five stars I've ever given out. Would have had six if I could have shoehorned it in. read more
