Offers daily tours and social events every night to meet others in the hostel (definitely superior to other hostels). Cons: let me preface by saying I understand this is definitely a "you get what you pay for" experience. However, there are a few things that I truly believe are kinda like "bare minimums" that should be included/fixed even factoring the price. Does NOT provided a blanket... only a top sheet is provided. The hostel should most definitely be providing an actual blanket, and this is especially annoying because they do NOT inform you that you only receive a top sheet!!!!! That is a serious qualm I had. Hooks in bathroom were falling apart. No sink counter space...could not even set down your toiletries bag. You need to have a least a little bit so you can put stuff down. No table/surface to put stuff on. I'm not expecting a full dining set table. But you should at least have a small table/desk so you have somewhere to set things on. These reasons are why I had to take off a star. I would stay here again. But I do believe there are some realistic changes that need to be made.

And I found Seaside to be an affordable, clean, and decent place to stay while in Hawaii. I had a conference to attend in the neighborhood of Waikiki, in the city of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. And I didn't want to pay $400 per night for a hotel room, which was the conference rate, so I decided to stay at Seaside which was conveniently located within walking distance to the conference hotel. Seaside is close to the beach, great restaurants, shopping, and other amenities, but just remote enough to provide some breathing room. If you haven't stayed at a hostel before, all you need to do is use your public manners and exercise your trust abilities during your stay. You share a room with people you've never met, but most people come with a very open mind and open spirit. You participate in a nice community and feel that energy when you enter. You share the refrigerator with others and trust your food will be there when you come back (and it is!). You share the kitchen, the dishes, cookware, coffee pot. You share a bathroom. There are lockers in the rooms to store your valuables. When you check-in you are assigned a number which tells you where your bed is in the room and the place to put your towel. During breakfast a few of us were chatting about the previous day's adventures or sharing recommendations of where to go. It's a very relaxed and enjoyable atmosphere. Quiet hours are enforced and I was able to get a good night's rest.

The staff is great and friendly - the manager Georgia helped accommodate some date change requests very easily without any hassle. Last time I was there (July 2024) they were undergoing some upgrades to the rooms, also fresh paint on the building, new fridge upgrades - a welcome surprise since I was previously happy with the experience! Aloha, friends - I'll see you back at Seaside soon!

Close to the beach and other attractions like Diamond Head. This is also in an area close to restaurants and fun things. A convenient location for staying and getting around. It's located within walking distance to Diamond Head. There's also a bus stop outside for tours. As for the hostel itself, it's got plenty to like about it. They have activities to participate in like games and stuff. Our room was big enough and had quite a few amenities. There's a pantry. As others have already mentioned, the air conditioning can be loud. The good thing is they offer ear plugs. Get booked at this hostel for a more affordable option while staying around here. Great vibes, price, clean, and safe. Great for solo women travelers as well. CLEANLINESS- Each guests deserve a clean stay. This hotel was very clean everywhere! The common areas, bedrooms, bathrooms, etc. housekeeping comes everyday to each room and thoroughly cleans. SERVICE & HOSPITALITY- One aspect of a great experience at an establishment is the service of the staff. At this location, I was amazed. The staff was incredible. Out of all the hostels I've been to(and I've been to many) this was by far the best. Out of all the hostels in Waikiki, this one had the best vibes, events, and people. Medusa was fantastic at getting people together for events... we did Karaoke, movie nights, pancakes in the morning, and more. She really created a safe environment for solo travelers to feel comfortable to join in when they don't know anyone or what to do. Join the WhatsApp group for additional info, when you check in. SAFETY- If you have a family, you know safety is number one. My input on safety in this location is I felt safe in the rooms, common areas, and in the location in Waikīkī. Wasn't afraid to go alone at night. RESTAURANT AND OTHER HOTEL SERVICES- During your stay if you are interested in eating here, I'd recommend checking out some of the tours the hotels have partners with. We went shark diving, and a circle tour around the island with people from the hostel. It was amazing! BANG FOR YOUR BUCK? Is this too expensive for the quality of the stay? This is perfectly priced and you'd be missing out if you don't go. From the moment I arrived, the energy was incredible. I met so many fun people from all over the world, and every day turned into some kind of spontaneous adventure. Between the organized tours and all the random "side quests" with people I met there, it felt like something exciting was always happening. What really makes this place special though is the staff. They genuinely create such a welcoming, social atmosphere and make everyone feel included. Huge shoutout to Emily, Toby, and Kate, who were especially amazing and made my stay unforgettable--but honestly the entire team contributes to the magic here. Whether you're traveling solo or with friends, it's the kind of place where you instantly meet people and end up making memories you didn't even plan for. For my first hostel stay, Banana Bungalow set the bar incredibly high, and I can confidently say I'll be coming back the next time I'm on the island. If you're looking for good vibes, great people, and a truly unique travel experience, this is the spot. The staff were friendly but very laid-back, at times it was hard to tell who worked there since they often hung out with guests in the common areas. The building felt a bit unkempt, and the kitchen cleanliness was questionable. My room didn't have A/C, but there was a ceiling fan and a standing fan that helped keep it cool enough. They have a quiet time policy for later hours, which I personally don't feel was enforced. I also heard quite a bit of noise at night, including some things that probably should've stayed behind closed windows. They do offer tours at the front desk where you can sign up, which is a nice touch. I didn't personally try any. Overall, it's a good fit if you're looking for a social, party style hostel, but if you prefer something a bit cleaner or more classy, it might not be the best option.

The location is out of this world, I don't know how it could be better. You're about 237 paces to the beach and you're a very short walk to the Waikiki-esque madness of "downtown" Lahaina. The WiFi here is world-class. The fastest I've ever had at anywhere I've ever stayed. That is not an exaggeration. The rooms are nice and cool. I had a tent, and the mattress I had was actually amazingly comfortable, which is why I left two stars. I really wanted to sleep because I had a long day but that was incredibly difficult due to the close quarters of everyone and the lack of respect for quiet hours. My tent was right near the washing machine and the dryer was going till past 11. I didn't see any signs that said no washing past a certain point, but the house quiet hours were at 10. I've stayed at hostels all over the world and know partying and meeting people in your hostel has been some of my favorite travel experiences. However with this hostels open floor plan you can hear the screaming and hooting all night long, and can't ignore the partying.
