Its now under a different name, but same location. On my last visit, they were out of pulled pork: which is my #1 go to @ BBQ joints. I went with the brisket. The quality was off, it was a messy, greasy and fatty mess. Without BBQ sauce it was pretty much not edible. The service here is pretty good, but the food and lack of all proteins on the menu at lunch time is an issue. Considering I cook brisket/BBQ/ribs at home on my smoker, I am hesitant to try any local eateries with the same type of food because they just aren't anywhere close to something made on a regular smoker. This place can come close or it did on our one visit anyway. It's very good for non homemade smoked meat. I had the brisket and was pleasantly surprised. Also the prices were very good too. My usual/favorite BBQ place in Mayfield is closed on Mondays, so my coworker and I decided to try Hoskins. Hoskins had a really nice building, beautifully designed and reminds me if being in a lodge in the mountains. As for the food, that's another story. I had the pulled-pork sandwich and potato wedges. And the potato wedges were probably the best I've ever eaten. But the meat, well, it was the driest pork barbecue I think I have ever eaten. If you like yours dry, this is the place for you. It tasted fine but I prefer my barbecue pork tender and juicy. And there didn't appear to be any seasoning in the meat, just bland. As for the sauces, I tried the sweet (strong taste of mustard with this one) and the original (string taste of vinegar here) so I don't plan on ever returning. read more

Everything smelled delicious when I walked in, so I ordered a cup of chili topped with cheese and onions. When I got it and took the first bite it was horrible because not only was it extremely salty and tasted like an entire box of salt was dumped in it,but it also tasted like canned chili. I told the server my experience and she asked if she could get me something to replace it and I asked for chicken wings, in which she said all they could do is replace the chili with 3 wings and I told her that would be fine. My sister went to the counter to order some potato wedges and also ordered herself some wings. When she ordered hers the server was told to charge for my wings and they were added to my sister's order. We had to get it all to go because they said they were closing and when we got home to eat we saw disaster. All of the chicken wings were burned so badly that you could smell the char before taking them out of the box. Because of this experience I will never eat at that establishment again and will be telling everyone that I know that if they are ever in the location, whether it's living there in Mayfield, Kentucky or just traveling through and looking for some good barbecue and good service to never go to Hoskins Barbecue, unless they just want to waist their hard earned money on food they can't eat or they enjoy eating really burned food. read more

Very disappointed. In the past the food was reasonably priced and generous portions. Today we had burgers and they were sub par. Dry and very small. The French fry portion is half the size it was in the past. Also, the prices are so high now. We drive over 50 miles to eat there. Not anymore. They need to rethink the changes made and go back to the way they were. read more

Appearance great, walked in to a very clean environment, ordered the two meat plate and when they served it had one little piece of brisket and 2 bones of ribs, and they was mostly bones, had to pay $1.58 extra for the little piece of brisket. Skip this place!! Dry Brisket, 4 assaulting sauces , they brag homemade chips, they had none. The chocolate pie which is my fav tasted like chemicals and was textured weird with not homemade crust or topping. YUCK. Since they had no chips I chose potato salad which they said was like a loaded baked potato, No it was like globs of sour cream with lots of nasty chewy bacon, no onion, no salt&pepper, no cheese at all bland and awful. Staff was friendly, service was quick, restaurant was clean and seemed like a nice place to hang out. I got a sampler platter for one. Smoked sausage, pulled pork, chopped brisket and two sides (mac n cheese & baked beans). Mac n Cheese was awful, generic, no flavor, I would compare it to Elmer's glue. Baked beans had an overwhelming onion flavor in the first bite but the more I ate them the more I enjoyed them, noticed they had some green chili's in there, which I enjoyed. The meat was cooked/smoked perfectly. It was delicious...until you add the bbq sauce. I don't know what it was which their bbq sauce but it was my least favorite I've ever had. I tried the hot and the Texas (recommended by a regular). To me the sauce was thousand island salad dressing mixed with black pepper to heat it up. It just didn't appeal to me at all. If I ever went back I would eat the meat plain. read more

Went there with friends for dinner. Nachos were great. Got the sampler platter for two. Everything was good except the pulled pork was a little dry. Brisket was wonderful. So we're the ribs. Off the beaten path just a bit, but worth the drive. It looks like it was once a residence converted into a nice BBQ shack. I had the pulled pork sandwich it was pretty good, their sauce is really good their mild still had a little kick to it, which i liked. The real surprise was when i got home and opened up their full slab of ribs, not trimmed but literally half the pig.... It was hickory smoked to perfection, deep smoky flavor it was like it was cooked over a campfire of hickory. It was kinda pricey but would have served 4 to 5 people. I've been here about a year ago, the food and service were outstanding. I went here yesterday and the food, service, and menu was far from what my last visit was. Almost a third of the menu was unavailable and more items were being removed (people who already ordered were contacted being told what they ordered was unavailable). The food I ordered was highly disappointing, onions rings and okra were over cooked, the quality of the meat was even substandard compared to my last visit. I understand everyone Is having to adjust to the BS of COVID and providing a service becomes more difficult, the majority of the staff appeared inexperience, unaware of procedures, and in one case the employee was just outright rude. Sitting down at the table sealed the fate for future visits, the table was filthy. After wiping it down ourselves I observed an employee wiping down a table with the same towel he just wiped down the trash can with! Unless things change, I don't see myself returning! read more
