If you want food really really fast, this is the place, but not only that, the food was really good. We came upon this restaurant after our trip to Pompeii, it is large and well staffed, at the entrance of the Pompeii ruins. We were a party of 8 and hungry. We were promptly seated and orders were placed, our food came out super fast and the meals were delicious, my favorite was the eggplant parmesan. I would go again.

So you find yourself visiting the Pompeii archeological park outside of modern Pompeii and you start getting hungry you say.... Well not to worry as Hortus Pompeii is right across the way from the park entrance and I have to honestly say I was quite surprised at how good the food and service where. Now you would normally cough this kind of place up to a tourist trap and to some degree it probably is but with one big difference, which is it was actually very good. Our guide actually recommended them saying he normally eats here quite a bit so we gave it a shot. As you can imagine it was very busy but we were seated very quickly and their menu was quite extensive. You can order everything from pasta, pizza, sandwiches and everything in between here. Also, the salads looked amazing and the portion sizes were very large so it was pretty good value for the money. After looking over the menu we ordered some Pelelgrino's, a Mozzarella, Prosciutto and Tomato sandwich and a Margherita Pizza for lunch that were both excellent. Keeping an eye on what was going on around us we noted several pasta dishes coming from the kitchen and I have to say they all looked great and presentation was awesome as well. Overall atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice and laid back. Everything was very clean, organized and all the staff were extremely helpful and courteous with us. This location also has a market outside where you can purchase water, treats and snacks before you continue your exploration at Pompeii, Herculaneum or the local areas. Overall, we had a great experience at Hortus Pompeii and it was a great break to rest a little and refuel before taking in the rest of our planned activities. Full disclosure there are a few other places in the immediate vicinity that you can try out but feel free to give these guys a try as I am sure you will not go wrong. Wishing you all a wonderful time in Pompeii mes amis, Enjoy and Bon Appétit!

Was very nervous and had low expectations eating at such a touristy spot right outside the gates of Pompeii but I will totally admit I was wrong. We just did big sandwiches and the food was great. Everything tasted so fresh and pricing was fair as well. Definitely enjoyed and would recommend if you are wanting to eat before/after visiting Pompeii

Two Margarita pizzas. The one on the right is gluten-free.

My wife and I came here to have lunch before we did our tour of the Pompeii archaeological site. And as my wife has celiac disease, it was very important that they had options here for her. So to confirm this when we walked in, we asked do you have gluten free options, and they said yes we do. After we sat at our table a very lovely lady with dark reddish hair approached our table with all smiles, and made us feel so comfortable and was very reassuring. She explained that they do have some gluten-free options and they make them separate from other food items. My wife definitely wanted to get pizza. We both ordered margarita pizza, lemon drinks, and all was good in the universe. And of course, my wife's pizza was gluten-free. Both of our meals were absolutely delicious and the bill was completely reasonable. What an awesome experience we had!! And our waitress also directed me to where we needed to go to start our tour of Pompeii. It was right across the street in front of the Porta Marina Superiore gate and there was a guy with a green shirt holding a clip board. We needed to see him. My wife absolutely felt great afterwards and we ended up seeing the most amazing things at the Pompeii archaeological site.

We were skeptical that this wouldn't be that good since it was in such a touristy area, but trust- this food was amazing. Yes, a little pricey but it's so worth it. Amazing Carbonara and beautiful sandwich. Also you have to get the gelato here it's so good. Great service too!

This place has the magic combination and they take advantage of the proximity to the entrance to the ruins of Pompeii to deliver a great experience: water misters for cooling, fast service, good food, large menu with pictures, friendly staff, lots of tables. Exactly what you want after a hot day walking in Pompeii.

The beard was hard as a rock. The bruschetta only came with 4 very pieces of bread and instead of cherry tomatoes it was regular tomatoes which were also terribly chopped. We had to eat the whole thing like a salad. There was also very little mozzarella. There was no flavoring we had to add salt and oil. Then we ordered pasta al'americano and pasta alla carbonara. We have been in Italy for about a week. I my self am Italian and both pasta dishes from he were by far the worst we've had. The carbonara was not tasty. It seemed like someone melted butter and mixed in an egg and just threw it on pasta. Although it close to the train station. You're better off buying chips and a drink until you make it back. It was over priced for the poor quality of food. You might as well hold your hunger until you get back to where you came from. The only good thing was the attentiveness of their busboy.

The bread was fantastic had great flavor. The service quick and very respectful. The tortellini was the best I have ever had. It was exquisite and paired great with a rum and coke. The gnocchi was also quite delicious the texture was on point and the sauce was an excellent combination. Pasta Carbonaro was elegant it had a perfect combination of cheese bacon and egg. The beer was "slightly above average" after taste was a little off. Finally holy cannoli "perfect cooked crunchy outer layer velvety smooth inside made me wish I didn't eat any food". It was so good I asked for a cannoli shell to go.

Great, fresh food at a moderate price. We had breakfast there before our tour of Pompeii and lunch right after. The staff was very kind and friendly. This is a family run business that has been around for about 70 years.

If you're Italian, you should also come. I think everyone there but me was Italian already, though. The place was pretty empty at 20h00 on a weeknight when I got there, but picked up some during that hour. Service is great; they don't over-bother you. The bartender treated me like it was my birthday, despite the fact that I was there alone. Despite just ordering a drink at first, he brought me out a little personal-size appetizer/snack sampler, and a coconut shell full of liquid nitrogen, making my own personal little Vesuvius. Instead of rushing to escape, I took my sweet time. Some of the snacks were pretty good, too- I recommend eating here if you (can) ever get tired of pizza, pasta, and paninis. Mummify me here, please, and preserve my body with rum. I first ordered an Oroi off the cocktail menu. It was delicious, a perfect level of fruity and just the right strength. Presentation was also 10/10. My second drink, a Hargaroa, was also good but beware if you don't like the flavor of licorice. The lime balanced it out well, in my opinion, but the flavors were strong. If I was here longer, I'd come back in a heartbeat and order another. Their cocktail menu is extensive, with anything you could possibly want from a tiki bar. Prices are also reasonable- sometimes even less than you'd pay for similar drinks in the States. They range from 7-10 euros for standard cocktails. At somewhere fun like this, a 7 euro cocktail is a great deal. Plus, there's a wealth of nonalcoholic options. The bar area is smaller but there's great space in the back, painted all around with cute murals. They go hard on the tiki theme in decor, in the best way. The music was a fantastic playlist of 90s music that had nothing to do with Caribbean/tiki/whatever but I loved it.
