After selling my home in Michigan I booked a several-month Airbnb stay in the NYC area and commenced my search for a new home. Rachel is a total pro. Hands down the best real estate experience I ever had. My partner and I set off to buy the apartment of our dreams this year and we couldn't have asked for better than Ms. Epstein. She is a real go-getter which is what you always want in an agent. I went into the home buying process with trepidation about working with real estate agents. I've been turned off by their techniques and, quite frankly, personalities in the past and was dreading working with someone who I didn't like as a professional or as a person. Oy, what a mess. After six years of living with a roommate in Astoria, I recently called Peter's office to take a look at some one-bedrooms in the area. I never heard back. Two weeks later, I emailed Peter instead. After a day or two, I received a call from a woman named Ana, saying she was an associate of Peter's and that Peter is on vacation. Fine, works for me. I gave Ana a very specific list of criteria I was looking for (a one-bedroom near the center of Astoria with off-street parking), and Ana said she would see what she could do. I also told her I was taking a day off work early in the month to look at places (with cash in hand), and was ready to sign the minute I saw something I liked. Ana called back the next day with an apartment that did not have parking and was nowhere near the heart of Astoria, then acted offended when I said I had no interest. She asked me to repeat my criteria, saying she didn't make any notes the last time. Umm, ok. So I repeated it. A few days later, on the eve of the day I had taken off work to look at places, I called Ana again to see if she had found anything. After introducing myself yet again (she acted like we had never spoken before), she -- and I can't make this stuff up -- asked me if there were any specific criteria I was looking for in an apartment. After picking my jaw up off the ground, I repeated my requirements to Ana a third time, and she again tried to sell me on an apartment that fit none of them. Frustrated, I hung up. The next day, I called another realtor at 10 in the morning. By noon, I had put down a deposit on a one-bedroom off 30th Ave. with off-street parking. Quick and easy. I don't want this review to be a reflection on Peter, because like I said I never dealt with him once throughout the process. For all I know he could be as wonderful as all these other reviews say. But if nothing else, he needs to choose his associates more wisely. read more

I've worked with a lot of brokers in Manhattan and Astoria, and hands down, my experience working with Peter has been by far the worst. After seeming shocked that I didn't jump on the first apartment he showed me, he showed me a second the next day, which I fell in love with. Things rapidly deteriorated after this. 45 minutes after seeing the apartment, I emailed him to reiterate that I loved it, and that I wanted to apply, but had a couple of questions first (Like, did the appliances work? Any history of roaches in the building? Etc) Less than 15 minutes later, he reposted the same apartment on his website, with a price almost $200/month HIGHER than it had been listed for. I repeatedly emailed him, and didn't get a response for over a week. When I finally heard back, he said he couldn't answer any of my questions. I asked if he could direct me to someone else who had the answers? He said no. I asked if I could see the apartment again? He said no. I asked if I could speak to the current tenants? He said no. This saga went on for over two weeks. I finally got to see the apartment again, it was still available, but he was still unwilling to even try to negotiate the price down to what it had been listed as, telling me that I would be throwing my application fee away if I didn't offer the highest price. He actually laughed in my face on the sidewalk when I said I was only willing to pay the price he'd told me it was. Fast forward to almost a month later... apartment is still available, and he's dropped the price back down. A phone call and three emails later asking when I could drop off my deposit to him and, I still never heard back. My GUARANTOR heard back over a week later that it had been rented. I still haven't heard a word from him. I withdrew an application on another apartment when I heard this one was available, and it was due to Peter dragging his feet (again) that I lost it (again). In mid-June, I was ready to sign a lease beginning July 1, and it took until July 15th for this fiasco to end. This is just plain old bad business, Peter. Bad business. I would advise any renters to steer clear. You can do better. read more

I am going to look at a couple near Queens blvd and 46th street. If you can please let me know in the next hour or so. Peter: Hi I actually have something in that area for 1650 however I can not show this morning. Maybe in the afternoon good for you? Me: What time? Peter: 4pm should work Me: Could you meet a bit earlier in the afternoon? What is the address? NO REPLY AFTER MY LAST CORRESPONDENCE. WHAT HAPPENED TO YOU SHOWING ME THE APARTMENT IN INQUIRED ABOUT? I followed up with a text message, a phone call, and another email and still never heard anything back. It's unfortunate when you see the 4.5 stars and think this agent is highly professional yet experience counters that. So sad you are losing business left and right. read more

I take partial responsibility for Peter being so busy some phone calls don't get returned promptly. Let me try to explain: I moved into my apartment in January 2009. I worked with two other brokers before him who caused me to lose hope that there were decent people in the world who worked as realtors. I was shown apartments that didn't fit what I had asked for. One of the realtor's cars smelled like Indian food that had gone bad two years prior. I was given the hard sell. I told them to walk off a short pier. Then I found Peter. Peter showed me several apartments before we found "the one". He carted me around in a clean well maintained car. I spoke to him honestly about what I was looking for. In return he told me exactly what I would get with each apartment - no fluff. We chatted about our dogs and Yelp. I implored Peter to create a Yelp page, the rest as they say is history. There is a reason he comes up first in search results and has the rating he does. He is honest and thorough. Two years later, I still call him to bitch about my landlord and gain advice. In short, be patient with Peter and he is worth any and all fees. I recommend him to everyone debating on moving to QNS. read more

The apartments he has available are awesome, and he does really seem to have great relationships with the building managers and supers, so that definitely helps. He didn't try to push me past my budget and, in fact, warned me about certain things that could have potentially changed my decision. I initally met Peter a few years ago when I moved to Astoria from Connecticut - he was extremely helpful and accomodating as it was a bit tough looking for apartments when I was living 2 hours away. Since then, I've used him to find 4 apartments and a handful of my friends have also had good experiences. In any case, he recently helped my girlfriend and I find a spacious (and pet friendly) apartment in my desired location for a reasonable price. For those who don't know, Astoria is not the easiest place to find an apartment that will allow dogs and he was able to show me a few (which was great as most of the other brokers I dealt with would MAYBE have one pet friendly listing. Also, he had the nicest apts. out of the ones we looked at, and we looked at quite a few. My wife and I had a very good experience with Peter. We were moving out of a bad apartment in Boston, and didn't want to repeat the experience, so after weeks (months?) of research, we had some idea of our price range, the neighborhoods we wanted to live in, and had decided to use a broker. I read the reviews of brokers all over the city, but got a really positive feeling about Peter from reading the reviews which are here on Yelp. As you can see, a few of them are negative, but they seem to mostly relate to individual experiences with getting in touch with Peter, who, not surprisingly, is very busy. Once we put our application in, Peter was good about continually updating us on the status of our application, as well as what other documents I would need to submit. Peter was able to work us into his schedule pretty quickly, which was helpful because we were down from Boston for just a couple of nights. Although we only saw one apartment, it met all of our criteria, and Peter gave us a good sense about how that individual apartment compared price/amenity wise to other neighborhoods in Queens. This information helped us to make a decision, and now we are very happy living in our new apartment. Otherwise, he's pretty friendly and easy going, and he didn't pressure us or make us feel uncomfortable in any way. When I first decided to move to Astoria, I knew very little about the area. Basically just 1) good Greek food, 2) near Broadway or 30th Avenue are nice areas to start, and 3) the subway is strangely above ground. So yea, I was kind of lost in my search for a new apartment. I met with Peter based on his good reviews and I was not disappointed with his professionalism and helpfulness. Not only did he show me a lot of newly renovated and affordable spaces, he told me a great deal about the neighborhood and gave me a lot of insight on how living in Astoria would be. He was never misleading during the process, never forced me to move to a place I didn't like, and never treated me like just another commission fee. His listings can sometimes be limited and he focuses mostly on pre-war buildings, but Peter will only show you places that he think you will like and afford. Of all the real estate brokers I've gone through in the past, Peter is the only one who did not try to sell his property. Most brokers would try to cover it up by selling the neighborhood or the apartment amenities. Peter didn't waste his time on any of that and let me decide if I still was interested. I've lived in Astoria for six years, and I worked with Peter a couple months ago to find a new apartment. I was very happy with the experience and would definitely use him again in the future. He takes his work seriously, and he is also very down to earth and personable. In previous apartment searches around here, I've dealt with some brokers who were flakes, sketchy, and/or who showed me dumpy, bizarre apartments while trying to convince me they were nice, or that that's the best I could expect to get for my money. In my most recent apartment search, some other brokers seemed nice but seemed to think you can't get a 1BR in Astoria for under $1400. I know this isn't true, so I kept looking. I wasn't looking for luxury amenities, just a decent, comfortable place near the subway. Peter showed me a variety of places, some nice, others not so much. He didn't say much about any of them, leaving me to draw my own conclusions. I ended up getting a place that is a great value and in a good location. After I moved in, there turned out to be a major problem with the apartment that left me distraught and panicking. He was supportive when I mentioned it to him and offered to help me find a new place if I wanted to. I chose to stay in the apartment and work with landlord on the problem, but I really appreciated that he was sympathetic and didn't blow me off, like it was none of his business anymore or he didn't have time for me. read more

We had about 3 weeks to find an apartment before Jan. 1st and I'm glad to say, the whole process took us a little less than two weeks. Peter was very friendly, professional, and helpful with the whole search process. Most of us were recent graduates and this was our first time leasing an apartment, so we were very grateful that Peter was very patient with us and answered all our questions.
