First, to clear some confusion, this company Googles as located in West Chester, PA, but our…read moreinvoice came from corporate offices in Boothwyn, PA, so they appear to service from various locations. AES supplied and installed our whole-house generator, and we also have an ongoing service contract with them. We found them through Home Advisor (formerly Service Magic) who has proven to provide really good choices for contracting work. (This comes from 11-year-veterans of gut-job home renovations, and some horrific contractor experiences, so when I tell you Home Advisor led us to decent people, it did.) We were initially given three options, and AES beat all other quotes to get the job. AES worked with our township to get permits, and was easy to reach and deal with, especially considering our need to delay work so we could install a concrete pad to support the unit, due to the terrain where we wanted it located. After an 84-hour Peco power loss in 2015, there was no way we were going to sit through that again. For two years now, we've had a top-notch Generac generator, connected to our gas line. It has reliably kicked in within 10 seconds of any power outage, and it was definitely money well spent. Freezer stays stocked all year with tons of food, and we don't worry about losing it.

I hired Ray Ross Plumbing to replace a simple tub/shower valve and spout, and they turned a working…read morebathroom into a nonstop headache. Initially I needed to fix a very stiff bathtub handle. There was no leak at all before their work. Immediately afterward, the new spout started dripping every 3 minutes, and the hot and cold handles stopped working independently--turning the hot off would also kill the cold, which is completely wrong for a two‑handle tub. I contacted them repeatedly. They came back twice. The first time they flushed it and said there was debris in the O ring and it 100% fixed. It was not. I had to wait another week to have them come back they swapped out the cartridges, but the problems never went away. I had to document everything on video, time the drips myself, and basically do the diagnostic work they should have done. Another contractor has since told me it's very likely they overheated and damaged the new valve during installation (for example, soldering with rubber parts still inside), which would explain the drip and the crossover. In other words, their work likely ruined the brand‑new valve they installed. Despite multiple chances, they have not fixed what they broke, and I've now had to shut off water to the tub and pay a different plumber nearly $1,000 to rip out and replace the whole valve and spout just to get back to a functioning bathroom. I would never recommend this company--if anything goes wrong with their work, be prepared to fight to be heard, do your own documentation, and hire someone else to clean up the mess.

To make a very long story short, I called Hickman Sanitation about an hour before I had to go to work after discovering the sewer vent issue and not knowing where to turn to fix it! Chris Simmler and his crew arrived at the promised time, quickly assessed and diagnosed the problem and fixed it! I was very very relieved!! I was aware of this company as it is a customer where I work and so I immediately called it first. But I had never called upon them before this. I am very glad I did call them! Chris was friendly, reassuring and professional. He also understood my tight budget and offered a suggestion as to how I could pay for Hickman's service over time. I really appreciated that as well! Kudos to Hickman Sanitation, and thank you!!

Had a very bad experience with Hickman and would never recommend this company…read more Hickman pumped my septic in Aug and then I had a septic issue (clog) in Oct. They came in October, claimed I needed it pumped again (2 months after just having it pumped and we only have a few household occupants). So, he proceeded to pump it again, snake the line, and claimed to have fixed the problem. They sent me a bill for $375 for about an hour of work. I called them multiple times post that appointment - stating it wasn't fully fixed and the pipes were still gurgling. They refused to come back out to take a look and claimed I needed an entire new drainage field ($10-30k) without doing anything to diagnose the issue. Once again, the septic completely stopped working again 2.5 weeks after Hickman was there. I called them, they refused to come out b/c they wanted me to purchase a drainage field from them and not actually diagnose and solve the problem for me. The lady was rude on the phone and the workers refused to assist. They were not interested in hearing about the history of the septic or previous issues I've had. I called On-Site Management, who had worked here prior - they immediately came out, fixed the issue, and said I absolutely DO NOT need a new drainage field. It is an issue with one pipe I can replace, b/c my pipes are case iron. They will actually diagnose with a camera and solve the problem, not guess like Hickman.

Downstairs, in the basement, there appeared to have been a mini-explosion, because the heater's damper had been blown into the next room, 15 feet away. (???)! We called Boyle (after hours) and got an immediate response. In about 2 hours a technician was here. It turns out, we ran out of heating oil! And the last gasp the heater made resulted in a type of backfire, which caused that odor. Anyway, the tech put 10 gallons in the tank, and the next day we got a full delivery and a further inspection to make sure everything was okay again. We were quite taken by surprise about running out of oil. But also very pleased with Boyle's prompt response. When they got the call, they were on it. Our experiences with Boyle Energy continue to be very good.

They installed a vent-less AC (the blower is in the bedroom and the condenser is in the yard) in my attic bedroom and took the extra time to ensure that the copper pipe was one solid piece - so they had to bend it about 6 different ways to get it installed. It took extra time but the quality is always first. They had repaired my heater after another heating company over charged me and it still did not work. At the time I asked if I should put in a new system and he said that he could fix what the other heater company could not and get it to last a few more years with out any fuss.
