We had a cap fall into our sewer line. Horizon came out, used their camera and told us the problem was not the cap but an underground sewer pipe that was "collapsing ". They gave us a quote for $8,300. We were told that was a discount. We got a second opinion. It turned out to be the cap which back things up. The other plumber charged us $325. There was no collapsed pipe. Please do not use Horizon. They will rob you of your money. read more

My heater wasn't lighting so I called Horizon to come fix it. So I call, first, there is an $80 dispatch fee. Come on... really? How else are you going to come to my house unless you're dispatched. Then the tech arrives within the 4 hour window and opens my heater. Pulls two switches, looks in and says the Heat Exchanger is cracked. Shuts off the heater (mind you, it's 15 degrees outside), slaps a sticker on it and tells me I will get a call to have next available tech come in to verify it. He hands me a paper explaining the problem with a estimate for a new one... $7,400-$10,000. We wait for the call, nothing. Its 7pm and we haven't had dinner so we go out. An hour later, I get a call from the tech who is at my home wanting to know why I'm not there... I waited, no phone call before hand. I tell him I'm going to get other quotes, so he starts pushing his salesman. No thanks. Keep in mind, I already paid them $80 and they did not do anything but turn off my heater in sub freezing weather. (I know, it's their responsibility to do so). I got other heater replacement quotes... all around $4000-5000. Where does Horizon get $7400 to 10K? Is it the heater made of Platinum with air piped in from the North Pole? Cost for my new heater with AC coil for later upgrade to central air... $3975. read more

Fraud, scam and bait & switch practice. Do not do business with this company or you would regret it. They mail you a nicely written letter that guarantees to improve your AC/Heating system for $89 or your money back. This is the bait they use to get the people to call them and make an appointment. They get in to your system and next thing you know have new problems with your system. They come and give you a very overprice estimate to repair or replace your system and offer $89 discount to you which is meaningless. They came to my home and serviced my AC which is about 5 years old. The technician said everything checked out to be great and no adjustment is needed. Several weeks later we started having problems with the AC unit. They came in an gave us and estimate of $700 to fix the problem. I talked to another AC service person that I trust and he came and fixed the issue with $62 plus $80 his service fee. We never had any issues before and the problem started right after their visit. Coincident ? I do not think so. They told me that they would send me a refund check. After 10 days I have not seen it yet. If you read their reviews this is not an isolated incident. My recommendation is do not let them touch your system even if it is for free. read more

Initially I liked this new plumbing contractor. I even signed up for their bronze package. Or was it their gold package? The plumbing team and the heating and cooling team each had their own package and slick talking and it seemed they didn't know how to coordinate the two. Recently, I had a furnace seasonal update and was told I needed a rather expensive part for a rather new heating system. Alarmed and slightly suspicious, I called in the company who had installed to do a recheck. NO PART needed. $1000 saved in unnecessary work. Do not use them. I will report them to the BBB read more

I called for services when our heater wasn't working. They did come out promptly, but that is about the best I can say. I was told that my relief valve needed to be replaced and that would be $900. I told the technician that seemed high since it only cost about $200 previously. I was told it was because it would take several hours to drain the system. He said he still needed to see what else was wrong. I was told the expansion tank for the home heating system needed to be replaced and the gas valve and that would be $1212. He didn't recommend that, but a new system would be better and that they could have a comfort specialist out in the afternoon and have a new system installed the next day. He also looked at the hot water heater and recommend replacing stuff on that, he wasn't out to look at the hot water heater, so I don't know why he touched that. He also turned off the valve for the home heating system's expansion tank, which I was told was never to be turned off. When I was writing the check for the service call, $79.50, he tried to sell me the $89 maintenance package. In addition once I was done writing the check, he told me about completing a survey and getting money off the $79.50, a little too late. I completed the survey anyway. I had another company come out the same afternoon, a company who did work on our heater before, including replacing the relief valve. It was only $174 for the relief valve, $477 for the gas valve and was told the expansion tank was in good shape and didn't need to be replaced. In addition it took only a few minutes to drain the system to replace the relief valve, not several hours. I was also told that the core of our heater was in good shape, no leaks or corrosion. The cost quoted us to repair our system was over 3x more with Horizon than the other company. In addition our heater was fixed in less than 2 hours and it working great and nice and quiet. I would never recommend Horizon to anyone. read more

Horizon charged $89.00 for the service call and said I needed 2 parts. The parts would cost me $1105.00 with the $49.00 coupon.$1194.00 total. They did not have the parts on the truck and he call the wear house to get them delivered. Although it was only 4:30 pm he could not get an answer. This was on a Wednesday. He said they would call me on Thursday morning. They did not call me on Thursday or Friday so I called C&C on Friday. I told them what parts I needed and they said it would be $634.48 including the service call. They came on Monday and did the work. I called Horizon on Monday and they did refund the $89.00. Horizon was almost twice the price. That is price gouging to me. Takeing advantage of people when they need heat is not fair and I wiill not call them again. Call these guys if you're in a jam, you need a fix TODAY, and you don't care what it costs. I'm confident you'll receive good customer service, most-likely same-day service, and the guy that comes to your door will be courteous, knowledgeable, and professional. I'm rating 1-star, though, because I can't recommend them to anyone and I want to warn others against paying 10x the fair market value for their parts. 10x isn't an exaggeration. I was quoted roughly $1500 for a $150 motor and was quoted over $150 for a $10-$15 run capacitor. (This was for my furnace.) Even though these guys act totally professionally, it's basically one big scam as they prey on people in desperate (without heat or a/c) situations. Called Horizon after our heater wasn't working,a couple of years ago and the guy came in and told us he couldn't fix our heater because it was to old and they don't make the part anymore. The new guy fixed it for $400 and it was fine. read more

Colin with Horizon was perfect. He called to let me know he was on the way and arrived exactly when he said he would. He was super-nice and professional, made sure to cover his shoes when coming in the house, explained everything well, tuned up our a/c quietly and efficiently then gave us advice on maintaining our system. The system needed more coolant than our service deal gave, so the "repair" was somewhat expensive, but we were prepared for that, and the cost is on par with what we were expecting. Everything's working great and we're ready for the 90-degree temperatures forecast for this week. We took the service plan so we'll see Horizon again next year - thanks Colin J! :-) read more

Their techs are competent and timely, but not any more so than any other experienced tech. My beef with these guys is their pricing is INSANE my neighbor got a quote for a new system of 13,500$ I work in the industry at a wholesaler and gave my neighbor three solid leads, my neighbor had their new system installed for 7,000$ less three days later. Horizon is fine if you've got the money, but you're not paying extra for better service/equipment you're paying extra so Horizon can put advertizing everywhere and pay people to respond to reviews like this. read more

Using this company was the worst decision I've ever made. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! 4 years later and they still never 'made this right'z Since they are advertising that problems happen and they make it right I thought it was important to point out that in my case it got escalated to upper management and eventually they just stopped responding to all correspondences. I believe they realized they messed up and had a huge liability and decided to just go quiet. I would say since 2011 I have told everyone I see that use Horizon about my problems and have likely easily cost them as much $ as they cost me with their poor workmanship and poor customer service. Amazing they can advertise the exact opposite and get away with it. read more

I always heard commercials and thought "wow, they sound like they are super down to earth and honest"...... So the first chance I had to use them, I called. The tech was nice, but he tried to scare me into getting an entire new system which was going to run me $8-$10k..... When I said no, I need to talk to my husband, he tried three more times to convince me. Wanted me to call my husband so he could explain it. Finally, I told him that I would not be buying anything new today and asked him to leave. Two days later we had another company come out who told us that we absolutely did not need a new system..... And that 85% of what the horizon tech told us was crap. It cost me $85 for that advice and it was well worth it. I later heard that the techs get commission.... (Although I have not confirmed this and may or may not be true.) Bottom line, I felt that I was being pressured to pay for a system that I didn't even need. Not cool. read more

So during this heat wave of course my AC unit goes down. I called Horizon and they made the same day appointment. The man got here on time and seemed nice. That was the end of my good experience. He began looking at the unit and said that it had a couple things wrong and I had 3 options. One was to do fix the 2 things at $920, two fix one thing $560, three replace the whole unit because "they only last about 13 years and since yours is 13 yrs it may be a better option because there will prob be issues down the road". Option three was quoted around $10k. In his defense that was 'off the top' of his head. I agreed to do the two repairs and have someone come to give me a free estimate at a later date. He then proceeded to do the work. About 90% done (2 hours later) he comes in and tells me there was a much bigger issues he couldn't see until he had done the work and that would cost me $2800. He couldn't do it now because they would have to order a part. He then stated that my unit would still work at about 70% with the repairs he had made. About 3 1/2 hours after he left my temp inside is still 82 degrees and hasn't changed. I called to tell them the issues and I was told by a woman answering that they would come out and 'fix it' I stated that I thought I already paid to have it fixed and I was very dissatisfied. She then proceed to assure me she would send out someone who had many years of experience to resolve the issue. She then transferred me to the scheduling department and the gentlemen had no idea about my issues and said they only have one man working and I would have a window of 10pm-2am. I am still waiting ing for this issue to be 'resolved' and I will be sure to update the review. I am feeling a $2880 bill in my future. If so I am going to ask for my $920 back, go to a hotel, and call another company in the morning! read more

Heater stopped working,I made a bad decision and called Horizon,I was told the repairs were going to be really expensive and it was better to replace, I fell for it and just like others have said, they make it sound like they are saving you money if you sign away your right to cancel, so they install the next day. Their financing is a total ripoff, 29.00 activation fee and high interest rate, not disclosed at signing, I wonder why, Going forward I will l beware of any company that sends a salesperson to your house at 8 pm at night. I woke up on a Sunday morning with a pipe in my basement that burst. After I turned off the water is called Horizon services since they advertised they are available 24/7. I spoke to Laura first and gave her the nature of the problem but also included a kitchen sink that had a drain issue (I am already paying for a dispatcher so why not get the drain handled too). I was transferred to Stephanie who promptly told me TUESDAY between 4 and 8. I stated the problem again advising her I had no water because of the broken pipe. Apparently she only thought it was a kitchen sink. She told me to hold and got back on the phone with a TUESDAY between 4 and 8. Clearly I couldn't go two more days without water and a family. Very very disappointing response. Early summer 2017 Horizon was paid to conduct a complete service on our air conditioning unit due to freezing pipe. We were charged for an inspection and Freon charging. During the heat of mid summer 2017 the 3 ton ac unit had difficulty cooling a 1400 sq ft rancher. My personal inspection uncovered complete blockage of the coils. After a complete cleaning by me the unit worked efficiently. Horizon failed to complete inspection 101 protocol. I sucked it up and moved on. Recently Horizon. Called to schedule another inspection that apparently was prepaid on the last bill paid by my wife. I explained my dissatisfaction with their last inspection that caused us a $400.00 plus bill. I scheduled and was sent an email explaining a 30 minute phone call prior to arrival. Was given a time limit between 10 - 2. The technician arrived without warning at 10 and I received a call on my cell phone that documented their call at 10:02. The lady attempted to make it appear that they have been attempting to call me prior to technician arrival which of course was a lie. This company can't get it right. I've now had 2 experiences with Horizon, the first was not that bad and they somewhat took advantage of a situation because there were only 2 companies around that did the work I needed done and they offered financing. That experience was a 3 for over charging but they did a nice job and the guys were nice. But this latest experience just goes along with a lot of the others I've read in terms of really trying to take advantage of people. I'm a bit wiser now and have been doing a ton of different types of jobs myself from plumbing to electrical to flooring, and I've learned more about costs. So, this latest guy that came by must think everyone is a chump and they may be right. But I reached out to 3 different plumbers for work. To do a stack in a house is not easy work but it's not hard either. I received 3 completely different estimates and it's amazing who is honest and who is not. When a plumber wants to negotiate the estimate on a job, you need to run the other way. Long story short, I did the job myself, it cost me about $250, including renting the tool where they wanted $3000. Now an honest days work is one thing, but paying for Mr Aitken Yacht is another. I did get an estimate from an honest plumber of $1500 but it was after I had already started the job. read more

Take all the one star reviews as absolutely true when it comes to HORIZON SERVICES!! My heat pump blower motor stopped working, they came out and replaced the starting capacitor at a astounding price of $266!! After that he said that he recommends replacing both running capacitors in the outside compressor unit and the blower motor. But then says he would recommend replacing the entire unit because it's 15 years old which it's not its 12. He said that he could have a sales representative out that day! I stupidly said OK I can see what they can offer and in 3 seconds he had scheduling on the phone and handed it to me. I made an appointment for the next day but I canceled it! The tech I'm sure get a nice finders fee for every sucker they refer to sales. To get back to the running capacitor price for my blower motor, after getting shafted on that price I was able to purchase a few spares for.... $2.08 a piece!!!! Yes, two dollars and eight cents I said that right. It's a very easy thing to replace like 5 minutes easy. YouTube is great! I plan on purchasing a few starting capacitors for the outside compressor unit which I think might cost a whopping $10.00 a piece. Again these are rediculously easy to replace as well. Just watched a YouTube hvac video on how to safely do it. Basically make sure the power is off and you properly discharge the capacitor. I do plan on replacing my unit for a more efficient one but I'm going to hold off until either spring or fall when the unit is not in use and I can get a ton of quotes. I've already got good leads from local hvac companies that have done work for friends and family. I recommend staying away from the orange trucks at all costs. read more

If you are looking for work on anything related to your water well (pressure tank, pump, etc...), I would not recommend using this company. Horizon came out to fix my heater, replaced the blower motor, and then scared the hell out of me by explaining that the heat exchanger was bad and was sending carbon monoxide into the house! Service man shut the gas off and left, saying that someone else would call to discuss options. Salesman. I called a builder friend and asked for a recommendation - he sent out his expert, who walked me through a step by step safety check of the system. He used tools that the horizon guy didn't have, and actually TESTED for carbon monoxide in the ducts, vents, and whole house! If the guy from horizon didn't have this neat tool, how could he tell me that there was a poisonous gas in my house? Why would he lie? I'm never letting them back in my house again. Someone needs to do an investigative report on the business practices of this company. Every time we've had them out on yearly route inspections they "discover" major problems that can only be fixed at a cost of several thousand dollars. Our heating and AC are both only 6 years old, and each top of the line units. I also hate it when they try to coerce the home owner to sign a waiver that they cannot held responsible for various problems or damage due to their service. I've heard similar reports. I am surprised they are so highly rated on Yelp. The positive reviews must be plants. Buyer beware of this company. read more

Beware! The 2 times I tried to call, once for a standard gas hot water heater, and once for a simple kitchen faucet, I asked for a ballpark price so I could budget the expense and be prepared. They do not give any idea of a cost when you call. I will never use them. Any reputable company should have a basic list of pricing on standard services. I also needed a heater service but could not get any idea of the cost as well. I think a local professional in the business is a much safer bet. Horizon spends a lot of money on advertising. They could have used me 3 times. There strategy may be the upsell and they are definitely not listening to their potential clients. read more

When my AC broke during the recent heat wave, I decided to call Horizon to fix it. Their radio and TV ads gave me such a good impression of them. The first problem was the appointment schedule. I called them on a Sunday (hoping to take advantage of their weekend hours) and was told that there was no one who could even come to take a look at our AC unit until Thursday! Our appointment window was 2-6PM. The day before the appointment, I called them again to confirm the appointment, and to make sure that they would call my cell phone number when they were on the way. I emphasized the importance of the cell phone number, and I was assured that they would call that number, rather than my home number, when they were on the way to my house. I explained that I would be waiting in an air-conditioned place just down the street until they called me on my cell, at which time I would go to meet them at my house. When I did not hear from them until 5PM, I called them and found out that they had already been at my house and left, because no one was home! I found out that they had called my home phone beforehand, rather than my cell phone, after I had gotten their assurance that they would be calling my cell phone. I was furious! I asked them to send someone out immediately, and they said that they could not send anyone until the following Monday. Unbelievable! Needless to say, we dropped Horizon then. We immediately called a small local service called G & R Mechanical in Hatfield, PA, and got an appointment for the following day. They called my cell number as I instructed, so that I could meet them at the house. They quickly repaired our air conditioner with just a new part. The whole thing cost less than $120, and they were so professional and friendly. Horizon could take a lesson from them. read more

So I called Horizon because I see their trucks everywhere, heater wouldn't stay on 1st night of cold weather, it was a Sunday morning so I called and just made an apt for that Tuesday. They came out and diagnosed the problem, said the board was shot, I would need a new one but since the system is pretty old they probably wouldn't be able to get one and most likely we would need to replace the unit. He did say they could try to find a board and most likely if they did it would be quite costly, ballpark of 1200 to 1500.00 and why bother putting that kind of money into an old system, not sure how he knew what a new board would cost if they didn't make them anymore. He also said most likely there were other issues and it was probably more than just the board but wouldn't know it until after replacing it. He then proceeded to ask me if I would like a Sales person to contact me to set up another appt to talk about new heaters. Well, I called 2 more local guys, they both agreed it was the board, both gave me prices to replace the board with labor, 1 was 600 and the other was 550.00. The heater is running fine and the guy who did it stated there is/was nothing else wrong with the heater. Both did state that the heater I have was a top of the line heater in its day (Bryant 90 series high efficiency unit) and is old and eventually will need to be replaced but I don't agree on how it was put out there and handled and why it would cost double to triple to replace the board. read more

We have had the WORST experience with this company from incompetent technicians to "managers" who won't return our call. Our terrible experience started in June 2016 when they charged us $500! to fix a leak in our system. They came out this past week and charged us another $400 to discover that they never fixed the problem in the first place. They now want to charge us an additional $3000 to fix the problem that they never fixed the first 2 times - and charged us close to $1,000 to fix. The technician, Antonio, was terrible and convinced us to do a "major leak search" for $361 at 10:30 at night after arriving 5 minutes before the arrival window ended. He did not even know that the Lennox system he was recommending we correct has a RECALL and needs to be replaced! When I called customer service, they said the manager, Evan, would call me back and he never even gave me the courtesy of a return call. read more

Had a drip under the kitchen sink. Had Horizon out to check it out. Turned out I needed a new faucet. This job was simply removing the old one and installing the new one. No work to pipes or other parts were needed. This was the most basic of kitchen faucets they offer (about $120). The guys were friendly and did a clean job, here and gone in less than a half hour. They showed me the cost before doing the job, which included a two year warranty. $746. I thought that sounded high but I'm a fairly new homeowner. They offered me a discount for being a first time customer. New total, $628. I felt that was still extremely high but thought, 'Well it must just cost more than I imagined to have a faucet installed.' So essentially the charge is $500 to install a $120 faucet. A job that took less than 20 minutes. I was friendly and wished them a good day. After they left I did further research and found that their price is indeed much higher than virtually all competitors. Some people can afford to pay a discounted rate of $628 for a basic kitchen faucet (no fancy side squirter or telescoping nozzle, just an up and down lever) and those people would probably give a 5 star review because I have no issues with the work that was done or the guys that did it. All was professional. Just very expensive. read more

I used horizon last year for a tune up and was pleased with the service. So, I enrolled in the priority partnership plan for $18.00 per month, that would cover my heater and air conditioner. I thought I would also be using the for my plumbing needs as well and would not have to worry about service in emergency conditions. Well, today Dec 31,2017 I had no hot water. I called for service thinking they would send someone out today. However, after a fifteen minute wait and being disconnected once, I was told by a dispatcher that no one could come out until Monday 1/8/2018 more than a week away. Apparently my priority service is only for the heater and air conditioner. My brother recommended this company and if it had worked out I would have also suggested to other members of our large family. Now, I will be looking for another provider after waisting $240.00 paid over the past year. I wonder, if it was a heating problem when or if they would have shown up. The hold point of the plan was peace of mind. Needless to say there is none. read more

We scheduled a general maintenance visit for our AC unit because there was a rattling sound when the unit shut off. Horizon was able to schedule an appointment for the next week. The technician, Randy, showed up on time and was very polite. He started in the basement and then moved outside. He found that the outdoor disconnect was melted and that the duel cap (capacitor) was reading 34 (it should read 45). To replace both items, we were quoted at about $800. I told him we had a home warranty and wanted to get a second opinion. Another HVAC company came out the next day. They measured the capacitor in front of me and it read 45. He blatantly lied to us on our service form saying that it was reading 34. They pull the disconnect and I could see that it was pristine, no visible melting anywhere. Since the unit was relatively new, we feel that Randy was just looking for things to replace even though they were not needed. The second opinion cost us $75 but we saved the $800 we would have wasted with Horizon. read more

My dealings with Horizon Services have not been what they advertise on TV, which is why I'm giving this bad review. The technicians have always been respectful, clean and they have always called ahead. HOWEVER, what makes me very angry is how they completely ignore what their TV commercials claim. I needed to have my furnace repaired. The technician had an 8 hour window to arrive, hence their claim to be "on time". He arrived, only to tell me I'd need a part. No problem, except not only did he not have the part, but it also probably wouldn't be in their warehouse. I had to wait an additional 3 days for them to receive it. Wait, don't their commercials say they carry parts on their trucks? GUH? The technician told me that I'd allowed my service contract to lapse and that I should get one again to make sure that never happened again. He also told me that I wouldn't be charged extra ($315, if memory serves) for late and weekend appointments. Don't their commercials claim to not charge extra for odd times? I know they do, because I just saw one!! I did purchase that contract. Just the other day, my air conditioner stopped working. Now, with service contract in hand, I called and they told me that I'd have to wait 4 days for the next available appointment. WHAT? Why did I spend $89 on a service contract? Again, all over their website and on their commercials, they claim to have "same day service". Just ridiculous. I canceled that service appointment and called a different local company.
