A beautiful vineyard! It was established in 1787. It became Connecticut's first winery in 1979. It's located near Lake Waramaug; such a serene place to relax and drink some wine. They also have wine flights and charcuterie boards. We went when an event was happening; many awesome vendors selling their products. The lawn had plenty of tables to relax at and even sculptures. There were ample parking available. The service and wine were great too. It's definitely up there with one of my favorite vineyards in CT! read more

Hopkins Vineyard is a craft vineyard & winery that opened in Warren, Connecticut in 1979. It was opened by Bill and Judith Hopkins after they decided to transform their family dairy farm into a vineyard. The land itself (which overlooks the beautiful Lake Waramaug) was settled by Elijah Hopkins in 1787 after he returned from a tour of duty in the American Revolution. The land was chosen for its rich and fertile soil. Several crops were raised over the centuries, including: sheep, race horses, grain crops, tobacco, and finally dairy. After the first grape vines were planted on the farm in 1979, the Hopkins Family set out to convert their 19th-Century barn into a state-of-the-art winery and tasting room. Due to the vineyard's unique location, it is the only Connecticut vineyard with a micro-climate that is influenced by the nearby Lake Waramaug. This allows an extended growing season and a successful growing of grape varieties that ordinarily would not thrive in the harsh New England climate. My wife and I visited the Hopkins Vineyard this past weekend. To celebrate my wife's birthday, I took her for a drive in Western Connecticut to see the fall foliage and explore some wineries. This was our second visit to the vineyard and it was our second stop of the day. The view over Lake Waramaug is absolutely breathtaking! The interior of the barn is charming and inviting. We decided to order some wine flights so we could sample several of the winery's offerings. Between the two of us, we sampled their "Riesling", "Westwind", "Saperavi", "Lemburger", "Red Barn Red", "Sachem's Picnic", "Night Owl", and two different vintages of their "Ice Wine". We decided to purchase bottles of our two favorites (the "Night Owl" and the "Cabernet Franc Ice Wine") to take home. Hopkins Vineyard also has their own Charcuterie Bar where visitors can order a variety of delicious light food options. To accompany our wine flights, we decided to order the "CharBOOterie Board" which featured "Mozzarella Ghost Crostini", "Bloody Prosciutto Fingers", "Mimolette Pumpkins" and "Gummy Worms in Dirt". These delectable treats were as delicious as they were spooky. Before leaving, I also grabbed bottles of the "Elijah Hopkins 1787 Brandy" (collab with Litchfield Distillery) and Sono 1420's "Blaze Cinnamon Bourbon" to take home. We stopped in here for a wine tasting and charcuterie board! The wine was fantastic, I got the Vineyard Reserve, the Duet, the Cab and the Peach Wine. The peach and Duet were my favorites with the duet being bright and light and the peach having a great sweetness! The Charcuterie board had cheeses of our choice, hot honey, fig jam, and multiple bread/crackers (including Gluten Free crackers)! We had a very nice server who told us about the winery's history and allowed us to see the bottling room and the fermentation tanks. The wines, however, were unimpressive. We tried four of them. The peach one was decent, the chardonnay was basic, the rose was vinegar, and the Barn Red had a barny terroir and won't be winning any awards. read more

Everything about this place is perfect :) They have such a cute little store with unique gifts, the staff is so friendly and kind, and the wine was amazing. We got the wine flight and had the staff pair each glass with a chocolate truffle. We also got the bigger cheese board, which came with not only different cheeses, but olive oil, nuts, bread, fig jam, assortment of crackers, etc!! It came with so much, we took the rest home. For some reason, the Maps app on iPhone says this place is closed when it's really not. Make sure to Google it or call them to make sure, because if we listened to Maps, we would've thought it was closed! So happy we double checked and ended up going. We came in August, so we could either sit outside or inside (we chose outside because the weather was perfect, no humidity and it was around 70°). I really can't stress enough how cozy and welcoming this place is. The staff are amazing! I never leave reviews but this place is so beautiful. We went on a week day so it was completely empty basically. It was so peaceful. I hope to come back in the winter when it's even cozier! read more

A hidden gem right in our backyard-ish area. This place was introduced to us by our dear friends that brought us here right after spending a nice afternoon by the lake with our kayak. We picked up a couple of bottles of wine and sat outside in one of the benches and made our own little picnic. It was absolutely fabulous and they were so kind to allow us to sit outside despite them having to close in a few moments. We also snatched a bottle of their very own amaro and it was delish! They allowed us to sample it before even trying it. There are so many goodies in this winery so be prepared to come, pick up some snacks inside, cheese, crackers, spreads, you name it. All available! If someone from your group isn't big into vino you can even get some amazing Kent Falls Brewing beer on tap or a four pack to go home. Options are endless here. Service is amazing and these GORGEOUS views have all the California vibes. Live music plays on certain days. Just an overall gorgeous place to come hang out and truly relax. read more

I had a great time at Hopkins! To summarize, 5 stars wine, atmosphere and service! We arrived on a Saturday afternoon in June. We started the afternoon with help from a kind woman at the front, who offered us a test of two whites that we were between. Even though the parking lot was crowded, the 4 of us were able to find our own picnic table to enjoy the live music. We were able to take a stroll around the property to enjoy the beautiful view of the Lake. We really loved the Estate bottle of Chardonnay. I came here recently before dinner nearby, and I had a good experience. Don't get me wrong, the wine in Connecticut is decent, but I always expect a little more from the product, which is why it earned a slightly less than perfect review. The space itself is great; it feels like an old farmhouse/barn. Initially, there were very few open seats available, but they also have seating upstairs in a lofted area. The servers were very friendly, and we were asked multiple times while we sat if we needed anything. We ordered two wine flights/tastings, and the bartender helped to guide the tasting, which ended in sweeter wines. Of the wines we sampled, I probably would only order one or two out at a bar, but it was nice to sample some that I typically wouldn't order. They also offer cheese boards and small bites, which I'm excited to try in the future! Hopkins is the setting in which movies are made! This idyllic, no doubt historical, building is set in beautiful Litchfield County on land that includes a pond and sits across the street from a lake. My first discovery of Hopkins was last year when I participated in the Connecticut wine trail Hopkins in the oldest vineyard in Connecticut. You are able to bring food in and buy a bottle or glass(es) of wine to enjoy. The store sells numerous yummy treats for purchase as well. Such a great spot! Situated in very scenic Litchfield County, the view from "The Hayloft Wine Bar" (on the second floor of the building) is gorgeous and peaceful. Had a bad experience the last time we were here. I am pleased to report that we had a very good experience this time. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines and spirits being offered. They are very light on red wine choices but there is a very nice selection of whites. The ice wine was out of stock. Westwind was a very clean crisp white with a touch of residual sugar, the perfect white for a hot tub. Night Owl was a touch to sweet for me but as a dessert wine which it is it will be outstanding. I think very awesome with a cheese board. One drawback on our visit is they let a small group of people play very very loud music upstairs to the point where we had to leave. We will be back. Quick note don't miss trying the sweet vermouth it is exceptional read more

I'm not sure what town this vineyard is in, New Preston/Washington or Warren, but it is a great stop on the wine trail. The facilities are new and spacious, with downstairs and upstairs wine bars. They host a lot of special events, so consider checking their Facebook page before heading out - parking can stretch a long way down the road on a sunny day. The tasting room is comfortable, has a small shop where you can buy wine and other nice local things. The wine is pretty good. The facility is very enjoyable. The room upstairs is beautiful. The little pond and gardens are peaceful and relaxing. I'm not sure why I got such a negative vibe from the people who worked here. It was kind of like they were right on the verge of being rude but caught themselves before they crossed that line. Without exception every other winery I've ever visited was warm and friendly and fun. Hopkins reminded me of school when the teacher was in a bad mood. I didn't deduct stars for that since it was a first visit and anything could have occurred to set an unwelcoming mood before I arrived. I might go back someday but if I don't I won't have any regrets about going once. I bought a couple bottles of their wine. It's hard to rate a vineyard on the east coast fairly after going to Napa. This was a very quaint and cute vineyard. I wish they had had seating around the bar tasting area. Really wasn't impressed by much of any of the wines. The female bartender really wasn't involved with us at all. She's quickly spit out a description of the wine, pour then walk off. Definitely no education involved in this winery. We paid the extra $6 for the 3 extra wines you could try which sadly was a waste. Upstairs there is what is supposed to be an area where you can order cheese and charcuterie boards. Very barn attic like feel to it. Terrible acoustics so it's super loud. $25 for a cheese plate of nothing really amazing sounding. No real charcuterie board. We ended up leaving and getting apps at the Austrian restaurant across the way. Overall a cute day trip but really not something I'd make the effort to come back to. read more

A group of 16 of us came to Hopkins for the 5th annual Connecticut wine and cheese festival and we had a blast. First off before I talk about the festival let me review the vineyard itself. It's a large vineyard/ farm and the places is very spacious I would assume they do weddings here due to the decor in the area. They have their distillery here and a gift shop and a small bar where you can taste their feature wines. Fortunately along with 4 more other winery's Hopkins featured their wine in the showcase. For the most part I enjoyed their selection but I'm more into the slightly sweeter wines and they didn't show case those. Now for the festival. Amazing!! So many people attended and they had so many farm showcase their chocolates, breads, meats, wines, cheeses, cookies, and soaps. I enjoyed going around trying the pairings. Overall there were probably more then 15 vendors there. I came home with some meats, cheeses and wines and a couple of us just sat in the garden area and drank and ate. We had a picnic. It's definitely an event I would go back too. Be prepared to drink more then 20 samples of wines and get a little tipsy. Loved this place! read more
