The one good thing that Hopcat consistently gets right is the Cosmic fries. They're the best item on the menu in my opinion. I remember the prior name as well that's how long I've visited the many locations. This review is specifically for their brunch. The menu is small, but looked good, so my group of friends decided to make a res for Saturday morning. There was quite literally no one else there when we arrived, and I can see why; this place has a whole host of issues. Firstly, our drinks took FOREVER. They said they were brewing fresh coffee for those of us who ordered their brunch cocktails. Considering coffee is probably a popular request, it seems odd they didn't have any even though no one was there and they hadn't been open long. But that's fine. The drink was better than I thought it would be so I was happy about that. Took quite a while to get refills etc. though. The big problem came when we actually got our food. A few of us got chicken and waffles, among varying other orders. I immediately started eating the chicken which was actually really good! But the waffle was absolutely disgusting and cold. The chicken wasn't hot by any means but it was edible. The waffle tasted like they cooked it the day before and then it sat there. My friend got an order that included fries and reported they were cold at arrival. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you every single person I was with said their food was cold. How does that even happen?! Especially when we're one of the first tables. I told our server and she was super nice and apologetic, and it obviously wasn't her fault. She offered to have them remake the waffle but at that point I wasn't interested. The server brought our check and was kind enough to have the order removed from my check which was really nice. I never expect to not pay for food I ordered, but it was a really nice gesture. I did appreciate that a manager came over to chat with me (i didn't ask for one). She admitted to me that they don't use "homemade waffles" but plan to soon? This is a huge problem to me because for 15 bucks, you should be home making everything. Otherwise, what are you paying for? I could make that at home. Hopefully they are able to get it together but I don't see myself coming back here for brunch. I had a happy hour at HopCat and the staff was amazing! Catering to all 30 of us with no issues and relatively speedy. I got the burger on the pretzel bun with their signature fries. If I could give 6 stars, I would. My visit to HopCat was already off to a chaotic start--my child was in full meltdown mode: screaming, crying, the whole nine yards. I was on the verge of tears myself when Billy, our server and now my personal hero, stepped in. Not only did he provide impeccable service and a bottomless supply of napkins, but he literally took my child from my arms... and breastfed him. I don't know where he found the ability or the willpower, but he did it. My son quieted instantly, gazing up at Billy like he had just met a higher power. I was able to finish my fries in peace for the first time since 2020. Billy isn't just a server--he's a legend, a saint, and possibly a certified lactation consultant. Give this man a raise.
