Billy was an amazing! He was very nice and made sure we had a great experience! He was on time and offered recommendations.

I think the Madtown Grilled Cheese is the best item on the menu! The apples on it add a sweet flavor, and the tomato soup that comes with it is savory. The fries are crispy and seasoned well, pairing excellent with the cheese sauce. They offer a "Pick 'Em" deal Monday through Friday where you can get an entree, side, and beverage for $15. I like to get the Madtown Grilled Cheese with the Space Curds and Bloody Mary Aioli as a side. read more

My wife and I recently went to HopCat on a Saturday evening. The place was pretty packed and the wait was 15-20 minutes. The wait staff were super nice and cheerful. The tv was playing espn 8 the ocho, which allowed me to introduce my wife to Slipper Stairs. The food, was delicious. I tried the bbq chicken Cobb salad for the first time. It was so delicious, such a big serving too, I could not finish it all. Overall it was a really good experience. read more

Was there for Thursday's beer and burger. Good burger, cooked medium as requested. Good cosmic fries. Would return. read more

The ambience and service of the place was very nice. Very cool place to have a social setting. The food was delicious, we ordered a meowgarita and it was very sweet. Elote Queso with chips was very good. Grilled cheese with the tomato soup was great. The burger was filling. The Vegi quesadilla had good flavors, the chips were either stale or not cooked all the way but still good to munch on. The chicken sandwich was massive and had good spice. Overall good experience and would come here again to try other items. read more

The one good thing that Hopcat consistently gets right is the Cosmic fries. They're the best item on the menu in my opinion. I remember the prior name as well that's how long I've visited the many locations. As with most bar and restaurants in Royal Oak, this location can get rather busy during the week and especially on the weekend, but it's a great spot to hang out with some friends, eat some good fries snd enjoy yourself. read more

Very hit-and-miss location. Food, service, and beer selection wise. I've been in here a bunch of times with different groups of friends. Sometimes the experience is really good. Tasty food (typically one of the burgers), great drinks (wide selection of beer and other cocktails), and great service (getting us in and out pretty quickly). Other times, the food is pretty mediocre (lukewarm by the time it arrives), many beers out of stock but not marked on the menu, and really slow service. Lack of consistency here for it's revival in downtown Royal Oak has been disappointing. read more

Reliably good place to camp out and watch sports! They fries with the cosmic sauce are a staple. The apple on their grilled cheese is my personal favorite, but I got a salad last time I went. The barbecue chicken and it was phenomenal. read more

Nothing bad to say about this place we went during a valentine special my first time here the atmosphere in downtown Royal Oak is always great. The bar was very clean very warm. Other than the blonde bartender just talking to guys the whole time and not getting us refills or checking up on us whatsoever. The meal was decent after they cooked it twice. They burnt a sirloin in the first time for medium well but when I got it cooked correctly, the meal was not bad. The brussels sprouts were really good and the fries are to die for. read more

The place was busier than I've ever seen it today. Good weather. Good food. Good service. Got the hangover helper burger and it was delicious and huge. I have the other half for leftovers. Beer flights were good but they were out of one I wanted to try. read more

Come for their Cosmic fries, they are good solo or with a sandwich too. Sometimes sections of the restaurant seems like no one is seated, is that to make it look busier in one section. I have had their pretzel bites, not bad. Buddha bowl is decent as is the Southwest salad. I think they are better at their burgers, as my husband and friends always enjoys them when we eat here. One of these times I would like to try their killer Mac N cheese and their grilled cheese too. read more

Courtney is one of the most attentive and the best bartender I've ever had at a hopcat. I come here just to see her!

Friendly service from Kaysone. She greeted us immediately and took our order. Kaysone made sure our time at the restaurant was very nice. The hamburger special was great and the price appreciated. The restaurant is very large but we chose to sit at the bar. read more

Our first time in Hopcat so i didn't really know what to expect. We were greeted and sat immediately so a definite plus there. We were sat new a TV screen in the dining area, which was great as football was on. Our server was polite and knowledgeable when asked for food suggestions. Now to the con. I ordered brisket loaded fries. I received a quesadilla. I told the person delivering my food that it was wrong. Rather than them offer to go get the server to correct it, they said "it's what the ticket says".. really??? obviously your ticket is wrong if i'm stopping you before you even put the plate down. Order issues happen all the time. How you handle it is paramount. This person failed. Now i'm waiting til my server arrives back in this area to tell them there is a problem. By the time they get to us my dinner mate is over halfway done eating their burger. She takes the wrong plate gets the correct order in... but now we are just sitting. Dinner mate is done, I haven't even started .. sigh once the fries showed up we just boxed them and left. Sad first experience read more

Our first visit to Royal Oak HopCat in its new spacious location. It was a good move from them. Lots more space! We both enjoyed the Double burger & included crack--ooops Kozmik fries & beer. Our server and all the staff we encountered were very friendly & prompt. We quickly got our beer, and food came not long after that. We are HopCat fans, having been in one in Grand Rapids & downtown Detroit. We really enjoy the food, great beer selection on tap, unique decor at each location & the great staff they attract. We'll definitely go back; thank you HopCat! read more

Second time with this location, first time was when they just opened and we haven't been back until tonight. We did not have a good first experience but we have at other locations. Thought we would give it a try since it's been a while. Unfortunately they got our order wrong I asked for only lettuce on my burger and I received onion on it which was difficult to remove and I asked for mayo but received no mayo packets. Hopefully one day they can improve. read more

I finally got to dine-in at the new HopCat today and I'm changing my three-star review to five stars. I got the same thing I always get there, the grilled cheese, and it was nice and hot and gooey. It comes with tomato soup, which I don't like, and I gave it to one of my friends to have. The waitress was really personable and funny, and she let my friend and I try some of the alcoholic beverages on the menu before we bought a full glass, she recommended the "Rockin' Cock" hard cider for me, from Northville winery or cidery, and it was very good. The only thing I regret is that I accidentally left my leftover fries at the restaurant in the takeout container! I realized it when I was halfway down the street. Otherwise, I will be back, as this is my favorite grilled cheese, though as you can see from my last review, I do caution you not to get it delivered - It had congealed a bit last time and the fries were piled on top of it. read more

The place was busy and a lot of people came in at once including my party of 2, but we were sat quickly. We really liked the build your own old fashion menu and chose the brown sugar syrup and black walnut bitters. The Elote queso, it was okay but I'm not sure I would order it again. It was more queso than corn and it was really thick. We all know the cra--cosmic fries are the best very seasoned. This time I got the new Bali bowl, the tofu and mushrooms were delicious! It's a nice casual place with good food. If you haven't tried hopcat yet what are u doing? read more

Stopped into HopCat on Thursday night to try out their new Olympics menu. We got the American smashburger with loaded Kosmik fries, Killer Mac, and Tikka Masala fries! The American smashburger was what you can expect from a smashburger and the loaded fries were definitely loaded enough to be a knife and fork side. Mac and cheese was delicious as always and the tikka masala fries were super flavorful! We sat at the bar and service was prompt and our bartender checked up on us even though we just got waters. It was pretty quiet since we'd gotten there pretty close to close. read more

This is a good location. We were seated in a timely manner and didn't have to wait too long to get serviced. Billy was a great server. He answered what few questions we had. Took his time, even though they were busy. The fries were my favorite. The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't the best I've had. What I asked for wasn't what I received (no tomato, red onion etc). It wasn't a deal breaker but it's a plus when you can get exactly what you requested. There was a game on so it was a little loud. No complaints, it's what I expected. All in all I would not hesitate to come back again. read more

Cheese sauce is to die for! Great service with an awesome brunch and dinner menu. Love the Crunchwrap for breakfast and cosmik fries at any time of day! Well decorated bar area with a never ending beer list! read more

This is the new hopcat. Very limited street parking, nearby pay garages. Inside is a large bar area and bar tables. About 45 taps. The same standard hopcat menu. Oddly, the mens and womens room sort of cut the new location in half, and on the other side is the dining area. Which is quieter. Half the staff I interacted with were fast, helpful and friendly, the rest were not. But they have only been open for a few weeks. It is a smaller hopcat, without the cool roof. read more

I absolutely LOVE Hopcat! There isn't one in my area- they're all an hour away sadly. Visited the Royal Oak location this weekend- and as expected; it was great. Sat at the bar since it was a busy Saturday evening- and service was great. Ordered my go to- cowboy burger, cosmik fries with cheese & ranch (it's homemade!) and espresso martini. I do dislike how ranch cost extra, but it's worth it. Love the record wall at this location- makes it feel fun and looks cute. Also, they'll give you a free HopCat sticker if you ask nicely read more

This review is specifically for their brunch. The menu is small, but looked good, so my group of friends decided to make a res for Saturday morning. There was quite literally no one else there when we arrived, and I can see why; this place has a whole host of issues. Firstly, our drinks took FOREVER. They said they were brewing fresh coffee for those of us who ordered their brunch cocktails. Considering coffee is probably a popular request, it seems odd they didn't have any even though no one was there and they hadn't been open long. But that's fine. The drink was better than I thought it would be so I was happy about that. Took quite a while to get refills etc. though. The big problem came when we actually got our food. A few of us got chicken and waffles, among varying other orders. I immediately started eating the chicken which was actually really good! But the waffle was absolutely disgusting and cold. The chicken wasn't hot by any means but it was edible. The waffle tasted like they cooked it the day before and then it sat there. My friend got an order that included fries and reported they were cold at arrival. I'm not exaggerating when I tell you every single person I was with said their food was cold. How does that even happen?! Especially when we're one of the first tables. I told our server and she was super nice and apologetic, and it obviously wasn't her fault. She offered to have them remake the waffle but at that point I wasn't interested. The server brought our check and was kind enough to have the order removed from my check which was really nice. I never expect to not pay for food I ordered, but it was a really nice gesture. I did appreciate that a manager came over to chat with me (i didn't ask for one). She admitted to me that they don't use "homemade waffles" but plan to soon? This is a huge problem to me because for 15 bucks, you should be home making everything. Otherwise, what are you paying for? I could make that at home. Hopefully they are able to get it together but I don't see myself coming back here for brunch. Their dinner is usually good but I'm scared what else they aren't actually making and are just reheating or whatever. I gave 3 stars for the great handling of my issue. read more

I had a happy hour at HopCat and the staff was amazing! Catering to all 30 of us with no issues and relatively speedy. I got the burger on the pretzel bun with their signature fries. The fries are perfectly crisp and the seasoning is truly divine and makes you come back for more. The burger didn't feel too special but it was a good burger regardless. They have a massive beer selection and the open space right on main is a great spot to dive into. read more

The Turkey Pesto grilled cheese was fantastic. I highly recommend getting the cheese sauce for $1.50 to go with the awesome fries. I really enjoyed the Blake's Keylime pie on draft. Not a bad spot, but honestly nothing special. I think it might be a fun place later in the evenings, so we will check it out again.

If I could give 6 stars, I would. My visit to HopCat was already off to a chaotic start--my child was in full meltdown mode: screaming, crying, the whole nine yards. I was on the verge of tears myself when Billy, our server and now my personal hero, stepped in. Not only did he provide impeccable service and a bottomless supply of napkins, but he literally took my child from my arms... and breastfed him. I don't know where he found the ability or the willpower, but he did it. My son quieted instantly, gazing up at Billy like he had just met a higher power. I was able to finish my fries in peace for the first time since 2020. Billy isn't just a server--he's a legend, a saint, and possibly a certified lactation consultant. Give this man a raise. Give him the company. HopCat, you've got a real one. read more

Just okay service. They forgot a lot of the sides and sauces. They were a bit slow, but I'm sure that was the kitchen. The food was just okay and not the best I've had at a hopcat. Overall, it sufficed our hopcat needs, but is below the other locations on all levels. read more
