The cabins have always been clean and well taken care of and they they have 14 total cabins. They are always very accommodating they work out something if you have an extra boat or extra people. It is more of a family setting,they have a swimming area and some resort owned kayaks and a canoe as well as paddle boat. They also have a volley ball and shuffle board court. In the office they have board games ( for rainy days) , ice cream , clothes, Bait and fishing advice if you want To know where to catch 'em . It's located bout a mile from the heartland trail so town is a short bike ride away.

These are the ONLY reasons this place gets two stars. I definitely would not have stayed here otherwise. Where do I even begin??? If you love the smell of cigarettes; this is the place for you. We got a no smoking room, but since this is a smoking casino there really is no way to avoid the smell. It's everywhere and on everything. People were smoking in the hall outside our room. If you love weird and shady people possibility doing drug deals in the parking lot; this is the place for you. If you like walking over the river and through the woods to get to the pool and dinning; this is the place for you. I seriously don't mind a good jaunt. HOWEVER, I did NOT like having to go through the smoked filled and loud casino with creepy drunk folks staring at my kids just to get to an over priced buffet (so SOOoo so glad we did NOT have to pay for our stay here). Honestly, I am not a picky person when it comes to hotels. I like 3 simple things. Clean, quite and good guest service. I can even look over some things if I get good guest service ... But I did NOT! I couldn't find a single place where it gave a check out time??? Most places are 11 or noon, I assume. But, I wanted to be sure. Called front desk. It rings... And rings ... And rings. Finally someone picks up only to hang up. I call 4 more times and it goes to call waiting So, I call the 800 reservation number. Guess what? After going through the automated touch service I get front desk!!! Imagine that! Dude on the phone sounds like he's probably 20 and stoned chopping on his munchies! I WISH I were kidding. I am not. Check out is at 11! I ... I .. .... Yeah *shakes head* Don't go here. The shower is terrible. The beds are not the greatest and they have these weird little pillows. The coffee was odd. It's cool that it was a kuregg. Not cool that the coffee was awful. It was really weird that there was a sign in our room asking to call front desk to dispose syringes . Apparently they have a large population of diabetics that stay there that they need to accommodate??? It's really ashame, though. The actual look of the rooms aren't that bad. I've been in worse. Someone clearly put thought into it. .... SOoooooo glad my husband got a bunch of free hand sanitizer spray at his conference. I sanitized the shit out of everything! And now I have smokers lung for the next few days. Boooooo!

I was married at Black Lantern last summer (2015) and I have so many good things to say I can't…read morepossibly say them all here. First and foremost, I've heard from an overwhelming number of guests how much they enjoyed the grounds and the beauty of the area, so much that they didn't mind the 4hr drive from the cities. The natural beauty of the area is emphasized here: native species surround you whether you are at the pavilion area, the campgrounds up around the loop, or even the open area of the RV park. There are also pretty little "hidden" places all over. Our photographers were thrilled about all the places to take photos- rock chairs, opennings in the woods, flowers planted here and there, sweet antique-looking benches, etc. The best part of Black Lantern though is the owner, Annie. She is just incredible. She was so thoughtful throughout the process and she was pretty much a wedding planner. She didn't mind talking to me about how weddings are put together and gave me contact info for decently priced vendors in the area. That was especially helpful as I am from Minneapolis and was contacting all the expensive vendors- oops. Annie took time to understand our style and vibe so that she could best help me plan an event that we wanted. She offered so much of her time before we even met to answer questions. She also has the uncanny ability to pop in at the right time- every time I needed her, she was there. She helped problem-solve for those things you don't plan on and offered a helping hand whenever it was needed. She chops all the wood and builds things, including amazing heart-shaped fires. What a badass woman! There was only one thing that was a disappointment at first- but then ended up being a blessing in disguise- we couldn't have our guests camp at the "campsites." Darn MN regulations. There isn't running water close enough to the loop to allow for campfires. Instead, we had all our guests camp in the RV park. It worked out wonderfully. This also allowed us to use one of the campsites as our ceremony site. Best decision we made. It couldn't have been a more perfect location for us. I didn't want to get married indoors, or even standing on cement. The clearing in the woods was large enough for 100 chairs and standing room for the other 60 people. The forest provided a breathtaking backdrop. Even a year later, when wedding-talk comes up, other people still bring up what an amazing venue Black Lantern is.
