Location is great - easy to get to, right on the lake with many rooms that not only overlook the lake but have balconies that you can go out on. It was really nice to sit outside of my room and read while viewing and listening to the lake. There is a bike/walking trail that goes right past the hotel for an evening stroll, and the hotel even has bikes for rent. Plenty to do if you've got kids. This hotel has not only a beachfront/swimming area, but you can rent pontoons, kayaks as well. They have a playground area outside alongside the hotel. The pool area is spacious and has a small arcade area next to it. I didn't go to restaurant/lounge, so can't speak to it, but it's nice to have the option in-house. All of these amenities in total add up to what could be a amazing destination, and yet it just feels a bit tired and worn down. The carpeting in the hallways was not in good shape, and overall upkeep seems a little lacking.

Then after attempting to sleep in a room with more chlorine smell than the pool room itself. It opened at 8am. And there were screaming children immediately. When I complained when checking out, the clerk said, "that's a common complaint in that room, but our owners have instructed us to not give refunds, especially when they are full. I was offered an opportunity to leave a review, but I'm not complaining to this location where they will bury it in a drawer. There are at least 5 other chain hotels in Detroit Lakes. This one is not worth the cost at half price. DO NOT stay here. This place should be stripped of its affiliation with Holiday Inn.

Whoever designed what appears to be a recent property update has never stayed in a hotel, or…read morethey're completely incompetent. That, combined with uncaring management, has taken "hospitality" to a point where we won't be coming back. 1. The room price was different for each of the two weekdays we were there. The clerk stumbled and fumbled a response, suggesting that it was a Booking.com issue. 2. The shampoo bottle holder was broken. The bottle was resting on a corner of the bathtub. When we removed it, what appeared to be mold was on the bathtub where the bottle had been placed. It had to be there for quite a while for that to occur. 3. There is no counter space in the bathroom to place toiletries. 4. A grab bar was located behind the toilet, positioned under a glass shelf. Still struggling to understand how someone needing to grab onto the bar would be able to do so. 5. The toilet did not appear secured to the floor. 6. The shower head was too high on the wall, making it difficult to reach, and it was not possible to adjust the head. 7. Tacky, handwritten notes indicated that several juice dispensers in the eating area were out of order. 8. The desk lamp had no shade. 9. The TV was maladjusted; the picture quality was horrible.

General: Stayed here in May 2024 for a work conference…read more Location - Great spot a short walk from Detroit Lake and right off the highway. You have a Casey's Gas Station (great pizza) right next door and town is just a couple miles down the road. Rooms & Building - Hotel is standard to other Country Inns I have stayed at. Neutral wood tones with moderately comfy furniture and grounds. My room was in decent order. Lots of places to charge my electronics and a very comfy bed. Microwave and small fridge included. Amenities - There is a nice pool, sauna, and hot tub setup on one end of the building. There is also a fire pit table outside on a small patio attached to the pool area. The lobby sitting room is pretty nice and a comfy place to read a book or take a break. Free coffee is available during the day and cookies at night (if you can snag one before they are gone). Food - There is a free breakfast buffet offered at this location. The breakfast layout is your standard waffle bar layout. Hot options include eggs, potatoes, breakfast meat, sausage gravy, and waffles. Continental options are available too such as yogurt, cereal, breakfast breads, fruit, etc. Vibe - Lots of rules with fines at this location. No early check-in or check-out unless you are willing to pay extra. Staff were not very present, seemed to be away from the front desk a lot but they were nice enough when I met them. I chalk up the lack of staffing issue with the issues related with hiring enough people in the area. Reality vs. Online - Online pictures that I saw on their website matched the quality and condition of the hotel and rooms. I did not witness any of the damaged property photos that some reviewers have posted. Hotel shows minor issues of wear but that is to be expected. Price & Final Verdict - I paid about $120 for a room per night. Not a bad option when staying in the area. This location can be considered one of the middle of the road picks for Detroit Lakes.

The last BW we stayed in was in Illinois and it was unexplainably humid inside with a terrible moldy smell so I didn't have high expectations, but this one was very comfortable. Our room was clean and bright, the air was cool and dry, no smell, huge TV, abundance of towels, across the street from a gas station, Target, a few restaurants so the location was convenient... My favorite thing was the complimentary breakfast! There was actually quite a large variety of food and beverage options, and I cannot rave enough about the woman working in there. She was constantly in and out clearing dishes, keeping the food stocked and covered, wiping up every little crumb, and making conversation with the visitors, and asking if there was anything we needed that wasn't already out, etc. she was so friendly and helpful! I don't know if/when I'll ever be in Fergus Falls again but if I am, I'd come back here. My only complaint is that of all the cable channels, somehow Food Network was missing? But we settled for HGTV.

The continental breakfast is a step above many other similar hotels- they have waffles, the usual type of items (English muffins, danishes, etc), but also have a cooler with breakfast sandwiches, French toast sticks, and omelets. It was nice to see such a big variety of choices. The rooms are nice overall, no real complaints there. Nothing remarkable, but fit our needs. We booked this stay specifically for our wedding anniversary and reserved a room with a hot tub…read more Unfortunately, the experience was extremely disappointing from the moment we arrived. On September 25 at approximately 2:00 p.m., we spoke with Jessica about early check-in. We explained that the hot tub was important because this was our anniversary trip. Jessica told us that most of the hotel's hot tub rooms were not working and acknowledged that the website needed to be updated. She located Room 219, which supposedly had a working hot tub, and allowed us to check in. When we entered Room 219, it had clearly not been cleaned: garbage was overflowing, used coffee cups and towels remained, the bed was unmade, and there were items in the hot tub. Because we understood we had arrived early, we left our belongings and returned around 6:30 p.m., expecting housekeeping to have cleaned the room. It had not. We reported the issue to Isaiah, who moved us to Room 222 and said he was upgrading us at no charge because of the problem. Room 222 was clean, and we eventually used the hot tub. Shortly afterward, we discovered that the lobby below our room was flooding and water was coming through the ceiling. We were told the flooding was caused by the hot tub in Room 222 and that we needed to move again. Isaiah said he would return after handling the situation, but he never did. We were left without another room or instructions and eventually went to sleep after 1:00 a.m. We also learned that other rooms had reportedly been left uncleaned, suggesting a larger housekeeping issue. The following morning, September 26, we were told there were no rooms available and that we needed to speak with Jessica. We waited until nearly 11:00 a.m., but Jessica still had not returned. We ultimately asked that our one-night stay be comped and explained that we would find another place to stay. Jessica initially refused, but after we explained that the "upgrade" was provided only because our original room had not been cleaned--and that we were never given another room after Room 222 flooded--she agreed to comp the stay. We checked out and subsequently received confirmation of a $141.44 credit. However, on September 28, 2026, AmericInn by Wyndham - Park Rapids charged our credit card $141.44 anyway. We have now spent two days attempting to contact the hotel, Jessica, and Customer Care. No one has been able to reach the hotel or Jessica, and we have received no explanation for why the charge was processed after the stay was explicitly comped and a $141.44 credit was confirmed.
