My wife claimed the room as her own, but shortly after we moved in, she discovered a wet spot in the carpeting near the window. I didn't know where to turn, so I consulted ChatGPT, which pointed me to Windowman. It turned out to be the best recommendation I could have received. I soon learned that Rance is widely regarded as the foremost expert in egress windows in the entire state. I called the company, and Rance reached out promptly and arranged to come by the next day. I braced myself for the worst -- a high-pressure sales pitch and a bill somewhere between $5,000 and $10,000. But Rance was unlike any contractor I've dealt with. He assessed the problem, and almost immediately told me I didn't need a new window at all -- he could repair the existing one. I was relieved. When I asked when he could do the work, he said he'd return at the end of his day to handle it himself. When I asked about cost, he told me not to worry, and we eventually settled on a price that was almost embarrassingly reasonable. True to his word, Rance returned late on a Friday afternoon and completed the repair in just a few hours. But he didn't stop there. Rather than simply fixing the problem, he had cleaned up the entire area and replaced all the surrounding metal trim, leaving the window looking and functioning like new. When I pointed out that this was far more than we'd agreed to, he said simply that he wanted the window to be as good as new -- so that's what he made it. That kind of pride in one's work is rare, and it's rarer still in the home contracting industry. What happened next is something I have never done in my 79 years: I paid him more than he asked. I couldn't, in good conscience, accept the quality of work I received for what he intended to charge me. Rance and Windowman have my highest and most enthusiastic recommendation. When we inevitably ran into problems (i.e. knob & tube), Miguel was honest about the issue, and the cost. He helped me cut in other places so we would stay within budget. Miguel is a professional with professional subcontractors that work primarily for him. This is incredibly important when it comes to scheduling. It seemed like they didn't even read my online submission as they called and immediately tried to schedule an appointment without providing a quote. After declining a $600-$800 amount, we hung up. I then received multiple phone calls from a couple of different people and agreed upon a $500 = tax for ~$542 to replace the rails, rollers and fix the locking mechanism. When the apparent "unrelated" worker showed up, he informed me that they did not replace rails (Youtube videos showed otherwise but regardless...) but he would clean it. When he had completed the roller replacement, he was unaware he needed to fix the locking mechanism. He then replaced it as it was a mechanism that had to be replaced vs. repaired as it was enclosed. When it was all said and done, the rollers were replaced and the lock was replaced but the rail was not replaced and I was charged ~$30 more than agreed upon which was already higher than I thought it should be. The worker was excellent but the rest of the experience was lass than desirable in my opinion.
