Had Hoopla Donuts for the first time today and I must say.. they are unlike any other donuts! I literally stared at the box of donuts for so long trying to decide. I was the first one to be able to choose from a fresh box of donuts so it was extremely hard to decide. I ended up going with a London fog donut because that flavour of donut is so unique. I was sitting at my desk at work doing my thing and suddenly a bunch of people came to present to me donuts from Hoopla Donuts. I was like umm! ok! I looked around at my other colleagues and everything seemed normal. Well it was quarter-end treats from the other department. I took one of those bad-ass donuts. It was hard to decide which one I wanted at first. There were like three boxes and many different kinds to choose from. I ended up having the oreo and cream. The donut was very fluffly and tasty. I can tell it was freshly made on the day. The donut was nice and moist. I do like the flavor. Very pretty looking donuts. Definitely better donuts than most places. read more

Dropped by during lunch and there were limited flavors available. While the line is long but it does move quickly. Bought a dozen for ~$30. The ones that they had just put out where fresh and soft, some were a little harder. My favorite of the bunch turned out to be the plain chocolate - tasted like real chocolate instead of just sugar. We had them out at the office for a few hours (rest of the afternoon - covered in the box). By the end of the day, those that weren't eaten were hard. read more

These things are good, and unusual, and live up to their quirky names. London Fog ? Yup, it tasted like that. Creme Brulee? I wanted to hit it with a spoon. They're tasty and there's some innovative flavors. I've tried matcha white chocolate, passionfruit, crème brulee, honey glaze (the best one) and lemon curd (the curd was unacceptable - way way way too tart). The glazed ones are definitely better than the filled ones imo but the price point is high - $2.9 for glazed and $3.5 for filled. Ok for an occasional splurge. read more

After trying Hoopla donuts for the first time, my opinion is that they've gone for style over substance. While nicely glazed, the buttermilk cake donut was small and lacked the deep fried crunch that I look forward to with a freshly made donut. I wanted to try this place so badly because of the creme brulee donuts! I got there around 230 and they were all sold out of the creme brulee. They also had no london fog, which also looked promising. So i went and tried a bunch of others, Birthday Cake, Oreo and Pumpkin Cheesecake Old fashioned. I would say overall the place was closer to a 3.5/5. The donuts were soft, and not overly sweet which I liked but the birthday cake definitely did not taste like birthday cake (more like strawberry jelly) and the pumpkin cheesecake honestly tasted a bit like curry... Weird but yeah. I think if I had the Creme brulee and london fog donuts and they were good this place would overall be a 4/5. Theyre also in Calgary place in DT, so if you dont work DT its a bit inconvenient, but Im sure thats why they're so popular already! read more

Hoopla has very tasty donuts and they are freshly made which isn't the case for most other donut shops downtown. They make different flavours depending on the day of the week and it's clearly listed on their website if you want to try specific kinds. The girl that served us at the till was very helpful. We were bringing donuts to a meeting where we did not know everyone's dietary restrictions, she was great at giving us a variety and showing me exactly which were gluten free and vegan. I've heard the line can get long - when we went there were only a couple people in front of us and the line moved quickly. I had the creme brûlée and really enjoyed it! Best donuts in Calgary, and I've had most. My family will go out of its way to stop by. Lemon curd is phenomenal. Chocolate is very chocolatey. The yeast donuts are light and airy and if you're early are like a fresh Krispy Kreme. Savory breakfast donut is really good if you are open to soft boiled egg and rosemary in a donut. read more

These donuts aren't good. I mean, it's hard for a donut to be disgusting but these are so dense, they taste like a donut that is 3 days old. I only tried the vegan ones but don't promote yourself as a place with vegan donuts if you haven't figured out how to make them! Not to mention the fact that unless you order 6 donuts, they put them in individual paper bags that take all of the icing off. Yummy! They seem to have ironed out the issues at the beginning of opening as I no longer leave empty handed when visiting early afternoon. The lemon curd is tart and not overwhelmingly sweet which is my preference. The salted caramel is everything I wanted, and the passionfruit, although a bit gritty the first time I tried it, is absolutely delicious with no issues since. I am a fan of Phil & Sebastien coffee which is my usual draw, coffee is fantastic. Try the oat milk here for anyone looking for alternatives!
