Needed to find a location to get some passport photos taken after having a terrible experience at a Mail Junction location. I jumped on Yelp to find a location with good reviews and narrowed it down to Hooper Camera. I called them first to make sure that an appointment wasn't required, no appointment needed. It was fun, fast and easy; the young man behind the counter got me handled in no time and knew all of the required specifics for a USA passport. He did inform me that they do process non USA passport photos, the photo requirements are often different; I suggest calling ahead to make sure the right person is there to take those photos. All in all a good experience and would defiantly use them again. read more

I called initially to make sure, the lady who answered was very nice and told me don't put on too much highlighter bc the camera will refract and I'll have to wipe it with a tissue. I thought that was very nice of her to let me know that ahead of time. My 2 pictures were $20 which I think is pretty standard. I have been going to Hooper Camera since they were in their original location in Newbury Park. So when I decided to sell my old cameras and equipment I naturally thought of taking it there and that I would get a fair deal. Well, that's not what happened, not even close! At first he wanted my cameras, then he walked away into the back, when he came back out all interest in my cameras was gone! All he wanted was the two lenses off of each, the cameras are an old Yashica and an a Pentax that was a birthday gift about thirty years ago. He also wanted the two flash units for each camera. What was he willing to pay? He was almost at $100 for everything, but then he went into the back and came back only interested in the lenses and flash units and that was at a drastically reduced price--$5 dollars for each piece! Twenty bucks! If that is how you treat someone who has been a loyal customer for forty years, I hope you don't last another forty years. How much did you turn around and sell them for? If it was even close to what you paid for all four of my items, you owe me some more money! I will NEVER BE GOING BACK TO HOOPER CAMERA! read more

Staff is kind and I came here a few times to develop film but the service is slow and overpriced. I assumed it was normal to pay $22 to develop a roll of film and wait a week, but then I went to this place on topanga and they charged me $36 for 4 rolls and it took 24 hours for me to get it. I felt robbed and insulted that I've been paying this much and waiting this long. Definitely won't be coming back. read more

Overall really good! I found my dads old Minolta film camera and brought it here to get new batteries and make sure it was working properly. I cant remember the names of the older man and woman who helped me, but they were both incredibly helpful. Though a bit intimidating at first because they clearly knew what they were doing, they were very patient with me and walked me through how to use my camera properly. They literally sat there with me and showed me how to insert/replace film, what settings I should use, and how to take pictures with it. They even pulled out an old used film canister to let me try it myself before I left the shop to get ensure I knew how to do everything correctly. One of the last good camera stores. If you need film pictures processed - this is the place to go. If you have questions on how to work a camera the man that runs this store is so happily passionate about sharing information with you. I even brought in a friend with me who has never been in the store and didn't even buy anything. And this man was still so happy to help her understand how to use her film camera. I've also purchased a camera from him and he showed me how to set it up and everything before I left the store so I felt confident with my new purchase. They sell new and used items and it really brings an amazing variety to the store. I've brought in old pictures of my grandparents to be restored and they were so beautifully taken care of. I really can't say enough good things about this place. A rare gem in todays world. I will say some of the items can be on the pricier end. But you are %100 not only paying for the quality of their work for things like developing but I've also never found a place so eager to help everyone learn - no payment involved. So with that I'd say my money spent there is worth every penny. I walked in with a hammered Sony camera to get fixed. He looks at me and says " This is gonna be like a 600+ dollar repair if I send this out.." Then proceeds to go and find anywhere who can maybe do it for cheaper before sending it out.. Does everything in his power to make sure I knew what I was getting into. Extremely willing to help and outgoing in finding me help elsewhere. Really appreciated. I then say okay never mind camera isn't worth it.. These guys are experts. If have been to several camera stores, and they are often very stuffy and cater to professionals.. These guys can talk up or down depending on your skill level and are VERY knowledable about the product line. Do they have every camera there? No Do they have every price range? Yes These guys seem to have 1-3 cameras for each price range and know a lot about each of them. They encourage you to touch them and if they don't have one on display they will take one out of the box. The other thing that is really cool here is the fact you can RENT lenses. Does everyone want a 1000mm lense? Perhaps on occasion, but do we have the cash to drop on a $2000-5000 lense? No.. These guys have a rent plan.. I didn't look into it but I thought that was nice for budding professionals. This is where I got for all of our cameras and high end developing. But when I went to their website, I found I could send them my digital photos that they could print in any size and type I wanted. I have been a Hooper Camera customer for over 6 years and I have always been impressed with the level of customer service that I have received. It is obvious that the staff members are very knowledgeable and they truly care about the customers. I am not a serious camera professional or expert, but I do use my Pentax frequently for some work projects. Whenever I have had issues with my camera, I always trusted Hooper Camera to answer my question or suggest a repair. The staff is honest and I never felt as though they were trying to take advantage and sell me unnecessary equipment or suggest unnecessary repairs. In an age when retail seems to be moving "online" and real in-person customer service is fading away, it is such a relief that I am still able to go to the local camera shop and receive excellent in-person service.
