Hale Kiana is absolutely beautiful, the views are beautiful, and the owners Steve and his wife are amazing and so accommodating. Hale Kiana is in a beautiful spot in Kula. There was literally everything you could need, and even more than a hotel! Although my husband and I had a lot to do in our short stay on Maui, we made it a point to spend time and hang out in all the open areas of the B&B. It was nice to have such a beautiful, quiet, and peaceful place to stay coming from the hustle and bustle of Oahu, and us working in Waikiki where it's absolutely crazy! I almost don't want to share this because we loved it here so much, but have to share how special Hale Kiana is. I barely have the words. We'll be back for sure, hopefully sooner than later.

First of all after arriving at 2:30, we were told by the front desk that they were not allowed to let us check in any earlier than 3pm because Maui Dreams Come True gets mad, so we had to get their permission to do early check in. We called, and already knew that Misty would not answer, nor call us back, and that indeed was the case. So we went to the grocery store which is conveniently located across the street and came back an half an hour later, and got our room key. We opened the door and was hit in the face with a horrible old smell. It was obvious that this unit had been not used anytime recent, as it was over 90 degrees inside, and definitely not clean smelling. The comforter on the bed was disgustingly stained, and reeked of old body odor. I removed it immediately and threw it in the closet. There was another comforter in the closet that stunk just as bad. No blanket on the bed, just mis-matched sheets. I used an entire bottle of Fre-breeze to try to get the smell out. The bathroom was the worst I have ever been in. Dirty, and looks like someone either threw up on the wall behind the toilet or urinated and wasn't cleaned off. The molding around the bathroom was also removed leaving exposed glue, chipped painted surfaces from where someone tore it off and never replaced it. Some funky light that looked like a retro 50's style with extremely low light, most likely a candle light. Awful! The wood door and molding was obviously the original when the place was built, some 40 years ago, very warn and outdated. The kitchen had new appliances, however notes left on the refrigerator said not to adjust the temperature or it would not work. We put our food in at 3pm and by 8pm (after calling Misty to say it wasn't cooling off, she sent maintenance) it was registering over 50 degrees. Not safe food temps. She did tell me that food sitting in a hot car would cause the refrigerator to take longer to cool off. Seriously? I'm 54 years old, and have used a refrigerator for my whole life. I guess Hawaiian refrigerators have different working mechanisms than our main land ones. Our AC unit located in the living room area was working full force but not cooling off the unit. I looked at the levers on the windows, and three to four of them were open so all the air was blowing outside, while the heat coming inside. I tried to close them, which did not work. I ended up fashioning the curtain over the open levers, and used my sneakers to hold the curtain closed so the AC would work. At this point, we are beyond disappointed, and haven't stopped sweating so we decided to go to the pool. Hummm.....no pool towels.?? We grabbed the bath towels and headed to the pool. I get back and ask the front desk about the towels and was told that I had to contact the property manager, Misty. I contacted her, only to be told that they did not provide pool towels. Are you kidding me? It's a condo, and you don't offer pool towels? She suggested we go buy some. Considering the pillows were most likely there since the place was built, and Fred Flintstone was calling asking for them back, we made our trip to Walmart on the other side of the island to purchase pillows and towels for our condo stay. The decor is nothing like you see on the pictures that others have posted. Grandma's apple plates, mis-matched cups, bowls, and grandma's corning ware (glass platter) made it challenging to use at the grill, as glass is not allowed in the pool area, and that it where the grills are located. I wrapped them in foil so that I would not be asked to leave. They did have red solo plastic cups as an alternative to the glasses. It went very well with the plastic dollar store flowers that someone attempted to make into arrangements that were not Hawaiian, but rather mid western if I had to guess. I guessed that who ever owned this unit brought all their left overs to this condo. The lamp shades in the living room were ripped so when you turned the lights on it looked run down like the rest of the place, and one was missing from the lamp in the bedroom. I did mention this to Misty, and she said that someone must have forgotten to put it back on, as they replaced them with fresh, new ones. Really? Guess they over looked the ghetto shades in the living room. It was obvious that this unit had ZERO pride of ownership. This owner offers the bare minimum and hasn't put any effort into even trying to give this place a fresh look, with a coat of paint, or Hawaiian experience. Worst experience in my 15 years of traveling to various Condo's in Hawaii, and I have photos for our Maui Nightmare Come True.

First of all the communication is extremely prompt and informative. We stayed at Kihei Beach Resort #605 which is beyond beautiful. Fully stocked and beautifully decorated with all the amenities of home. I would receive emails with the current events and places of interest while I was there. But what put everything over the top is their care and compassion about my Mom when she became ill and our safety during Hurricane Lane. A team came over to help us secure the condo to protect us and the property for the potentially dangerous wind and rain. I had expressed how the flash light batteries were dead and with in 2 hours Peter came by with a working flash light. We had to check out the day the hurricane was supposed to hit and we were concerned we would not be able to fly out due to cancellations of flights. TO make things even more difficult, my 76 year old mother had become very ill and we didn't want to keep her at the airport for hours waiting for a flight. I contacted Viktoria and she promptly returned my call and shared concern for my Mom's well being. Viktoria found another unit for us to stay in until we were able to fly home so that my mom was able to rest comfortably. We were unable to stay in our original unit as another guest had made reservations the day we checked out. The second unit, Kihei Akahi, was also beautiful and was extremely comfortable. Paige and Samantha were constantly checking in on us and making sure everything was ok. I also wanted to mention the regular emails I received updating us on the hurricane situation and what to do, what to take and where to go just in case we were evacuated. Fortunately we were able to get our flight out before any cancellations. We may have only stayed in the other condo for 7 hours, but my mom was able to rest comfortable before taking that long flight home. I just want to say very much Mahalo to the entire team at Sunny Maui Vacations. You all are truly wonderful people who go above and beyond for your guests. Aloha and Mahalo

What: its a huge room/house/wing devoted to a comfortable king bed with wall to wall windows on 2 sides of the wall. There is also a large shower for two and lastly, a sweet little solar powered stove with 2 burners and small refrigerator. Where: Its 10 miles past Hana town. Remote and peaceful and wander the grounds swing on the swing, take a dip in the outdoor tub. You can stay in bed and watch the sunrise and or set. When: We went in August and it rained every day (we just happened to be there in a big storm) but you can sit outside and eat your meal and not get a drop on you. How: To make the most of your time at the Hana Bed & breakfast bring dinner(s). Once you get to there its a long 10 mile drive back to the town - seriously it will take you 30-45 min. Why Go: Literally if you get up early you will be the first on the trail at 'Ohe'o Gulch aka "Seven Sacred Pools" or to the Bamboo Forest which is on the way to the 400-foot Waimoku Falls! Plus, again the room is a honeymoon-like retreat! We went on from here to the west side of the island and stayed at a fancy resort. But this place to stay is our best memory of Maui!

This was, by far, our favorite. Located away from it all on the South Shore of Maui this Bed and Breakfast is the perfect place to stay after driving the Road to Hana. It is just a few miles from the Seven Sacred Pools and Haleakala National Park. The room is very clean and features a gorgeous bathroom with a giant shower. There are plenty of extra blankets, towels, books, guides, beach equipment, and bottles of water. There is a deck off of the room with chairs and a small kitchen. It was lovely being able to cook and eat under so many bright stars. Sam and her daughter Mercury are both very kind, hospitable, and offer excellent advice on things to do and routes to take driving. Mercury sells jewelry, so be sure to bring some cash with you. I purchased a gorgeous necklace for my mother in law from her. All in all this was definitely our favorite place we stayed during our 2 weeks in Hawaii. We look forward to returning one day.

The house is located uphill from Lahaina in a residential area which is kinda secluded, serene and quiet but it's a short drive away from the busier part of town. The B&B is adults only which makes for an even more relaxing stay. Our hosts were very helpful and attentive. When we arrived the front doors to the house were open and there was an envelope with a welcoming letter taped to the door for us. We made our way around the house then outside to the gorgeously manicured garden and pool area, and then to our room. I had an initial moment of shock when I realize there was no key to get into the suite and no way of locking our door upon leaving for the day but then I experienced the most liberating feeling when I realized I really didn't need to lock anything, the house is very safe and all of the other guests (which aren't that many since there's only 6 suites) respect each other's privacy and space. There is a safe in the suite however, if you need to store any valuable items. We stayed in the Kohola suite which was one of the two rooms with a view. Besides the amazing views (especially the sunset views which you may enjoy from your private lanai, from your bed or even while you shower!) the suite had a very comfortable bed, lots of comfortable pillows, an outside shower, a nice ivory stone tub, a small fridge and an electric kettle along with tea and instant Starbucks coffee. Due to COVID the continental breakfast is provided individually for each room as opposed to buffet style. We were asked to fill out a form the night before with our requests of items such as toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, granola, fruit, yogurt, oatmeal, coffee, etc and our hosts would have breakfast ready for us at our requested time. We usually had breakfast by the pool but you can certainly take the tray to your room if you'd prefer a bit more privacy. Also due to COVID, they were not providing scheduled daily housekeeping service which was no bid deal, especially since if we needed any extra towels, coffee or toiletries all we needed to do is let Dan or Amy know and they would take care of it. We were also able to borrow beach chairs and a beach umbrella for the day, they were available on a first come first serve basis. Definitely recommend staying at the Ho'oilo house if you're looking for a stress free, serene, relaxing vacation.

We just finished our 8th visit to Aloha Aku Inn & Suites. We cannot say enough about this magical…read moreplace or the staff. It's as if they are taking care of our little home away from home, "a hui hou kakou" (until we meet again). The room had some nice upgrades and was well stocked as always and the common area is like being able to walk out your door to a pantry full of surprises. We enjoy being able to cook in our room so that we don't miss the sun rise or the sun set. This location has the best sunsets! You will get to know the staff as they are all friendly and accommodating. Jose will point out whales that are breaching; Teres will share "love and kindness" by making sure you are comfortable and have everything you need and Wade will make sure everything is in perfect working order. The grounds are pristine with the sound of waves and birds chirping and the ducks will greet you each morning in the plunge pools. It's a place where we can sit for hours whether indoors or outdoors and not feel guilty that we aren't doing something. We come every year in February to celebrate our anniversary. Please note: there is no bathroom door. So might want to keep that in mind if that makes you uncomfortable. Outdoor shower is an interesting touch, not really enough pressure to shower per se, but hey, you're sitting in a tub in the rainforest! Also note, just maybe 15 feet from the highway, which is not noisy at night, and you're probably out and about during the day. Heard a disturbed person shouting like mad in Hawaiian in the middle of the night which was a little nerve wracking. Sounded like they were right outside the window. Fence door locks but not the door to the room, just something to keep in mind. Definitely memorable. Makes anywhere with a bathroom door seem straight up fancy.

There was no separate sink, it's a cutaway in the wall with these items so we had to wash dishes in the bathroom. It was a descent size, we had a bathroom inside, and a lanai. Our room was next to the office and Toms room. The walls are thin. I wish there was ac. It got stuffy even with the fan and windows open. We left the front sliding door open to let in more air. There was fish washing soap but no shampoo and conditioner, so make sure you have your own or like using soft soap because that was in the shower. We were right across from the Venus pools and Tom let us know where to go. Make sure you see it. I'd stay here again. As for the bugs. Hana just has a lot of them so we got but inside and outside.
