If you want to get screwed over, hire Hook and Ladder. I had a problem with birds in my vents. They came out and they charged me a whopping $210 for each vent. It was hard to justify, but I figured this was a permanent solution to my problem. The guy told me we will never have birds in our vents again. Nope!! Within a year, one of the vent covers fell off because it was not properly attached. I blew it off and didn't want to bother the company, but then we started to smell dead animals because the birds were getting into my vent system. Then another one recently fell off. I called the company and I felt that they should reattach those covers as a good faith gesture, especially since they charged so much.. They admit that their covers are brittle and they said they will charge $250 to come and fix what they did not properly install. Stay away from this company. They charge astronomical prices and install inferior products so that you have to call them back and they can make more money off of you. Manipulation and denial of responsibility at its finest! I've used this service twice and made a recommendation on another community website/platform based on that first experience, which was quick and without issue. My second service was in December 2024 which was a vent cleaning in addition to chassis cleaning for my dryer. The technician arrived early and the tasks were completed in less than 25 minutes. I paid several hundred dollars plus tip and was told to call if there was any issue. I discovered a few weeks later that the vent extension wasn't properly attached to the dry and clumps of lint were accumulating in my laundry room. I called and left a detailed message on 12/23 asking them to return whenever in the area to reconnect the hose. Granted, it was during the holiday period, so I did not expect a call back right away. Welp, there was no return call. I waited a couple of months to call again and it was obvious that my call was immediately sent to voicemail. To date, still no return call or acknowledgement. I am disappointed. My request was a simple one. Obviously, if I could do it myself I would have, but that's not the point and I'm unable to do so due to physical limitations. I feel for elderly and disable who may have an issue only to be ignored once cash is in hand. Vendors should make right on all issues related to their services whether simple or complex. Now, I'll have to get someone else to do it. I don't plan on using Hook n Ladder's services again, though they come highly recommended by many (which is how I found them in them in the first place). DO NOT USE this business - HOOK N LADDER VENT SERVICE of Fort Mill, SC. I hired them to perform a vent cleaning in Sept 2018 and it ended up costing me $710.00 as well as water damage to my property! Their poor standard of work resulted in roof damage and a leak that required additional repairs. The work that was performed and the resulting damage was assessed and cited by two separate vendors. Photos included. It is documented that they used a cover not designed to prevent water intrusion. Water seeped through the corners. They incorrectly used black rubber roof repair spray as a sealant. If they were not equipped to use shingles for proper coverage, they should have advised me at the time. Again, using rubber spray was incorrect and resulted in an incomplete job. I was also advised and extremely disappointed to learn that the price of $450 for a dry vent install was highly above market (also no completion picks were provided to me). As a female consumer, I feel I was charged a higher price. They overcharged me for a poor standard of service that resulted in damage requiring a repair from my HOA in the amount of $260. The work was performed by the owner, Gary Hershey. I have asked for a refund over a month ago with absolutely no response.
