Hoochee's is a small food truck with covered outdoor seating right along the Chattahoochee. It shares a parking lot with the tubing place next door, where restrooms are available. The best part is definitely the setting--you can sit and watch tubers float down the river while you eat. Just keep in mind there are no fans or air conditioning, so it can get pretty hot... The menu posted on the food truck/website is not the full menu, so make sure to ask for the paper copy. They're known for the Buddha Burger and also have some healthier options. The food was okay for me, but if you love greasy smash burgers, you'd probably rate it much higher. One thing I didn't love was the pricing. Prices have increased, and there is an upcharge for paying by credit card that I didn't see mentioned on their website. There are also no fountain drinks--everything is bottled and purchased separately. Service was great. The person cooking and serving us was very friendly and genuinely eager to tell us about the food, the location, and their sister restaurant (Hoochee's River basket). Overall, I'd stop by again if I were already in the area, especially for a casual picnic-style meal with a nice river view. The atmosphere/location is really what makes it unique. read more

The activities guy at Unicoi recommended. Supposed to have burgers. Their Buddha burger with red pepper jelly won an award--made it on best 33 Georgia diner list. So we had to have the Buddha burgers-- all 3 said it was awesome, came with great potatoes. I had the veggie sub--hoochie mama--delicious bread, delicious melty cheese, so yummy. And the potato salad and cucumber salad were great. We shared the homemade tres leches-- it was fantastic!! We are coming back for breakfast! Place is neat as a pin, awesome service and food came out quickly. We opted to eat outside. Did breakfast and it was fab. Found out during breakfast there are professionally trained chefs in the kitchen. Hubby said that was the best burrito he ever had. read more

Holy cow! This place has the best breakfast I've ever had! We went here after hiking Anna Ruby Falls. I ordered the breakfast platter with eggs over medium. The potatoes are more like a potato hash mixed with crushed bacon, onions, peppers and pieces of crispy burnt cheese. Every bite was so freaking savory! They have a small area for sitting inside but a nice outdoor seating area. Staff was super friendly! We are definitely coming back to try the burgers! read more

During my 3 day trip to Georgia, I stopped by this spot with my friends. We were starving and had seen great reviews so we decided to stop by. Off the bat, I loved the feeling of a little cozy spot. When we got there, the staff were so sweet and inviting. The cashier told us all about the menu and they were kind enough to make me a bacon, egg and cheese after the breakfast window. The bacon, egg and cheese was really good and the bacon was cooked to perfection. The biscuit was nice and soft. The menu looked so good especially if you're a lover of burgers. Needed breakfast before we got back on the road and we really wanted some good coffee as well. Hoochees River Basket was recommended on Yelp so I decided to stop in. Hoochees is a small cafe and you order at the counter, staff brings you the food. Inside there is only 1 or 2 small tables so we sat outside which is really very pretty with picnic tables and umbrellas with a cute river below where you can sit and watch the geese go by. I ordered a caramel and regular latte. They brought me a vanilla latte which it was fine. I tasted more milk more than anything. My mom did not like her latte, I tasted it and it really tasted like just milk. It seemed that the coffee they used was regular black coffee instead of espresso for a latte, personally I did not like either. I tried the Hoochie platter that has corn beef hash, cheese, potatoes and eggs your style, it was good and filling. We also got the beignets. Went for breakfast around 730, only handful of tables..does open at 6. Portion sizes large.. Biscuits fell apart under gravy, but gravy good. Stuffed french toast large layers, so need few syrups.. Have extra condiments, serve in paper baskets, but have stainless serve-ware. Believe Summer crowd oriented with plenty of picnic table seating along water, and small deck above outside restaurant door. They will be relocating in New Year. We stopped in here on a Wednesday for lunch. My niece and I both ordered the Floating Tacos. It was served in a bag of sweet BBQ potato chips. I added tomato and red onion to mine. It was good for what it was, but between the sweet chips and the sweet BBQ sauce, it was way, way too sweet for both of us. I recommend a less sweet BBQ sauce and less sweet BBQ chips. Came here for the first time as a recommendation from a friend. This is very hole in the wall feeling. When you first walk in the decor Is decent and very small seating area. Maybe max of 10-15 people. I would come in a sunny day as seating would be extremely limited on a rainy day. The menu was very fair priced. Started with a Buddha burger and honestly it was amazing. The "fries" on the side remind me of scallop fried potatoes more than fries but they were good. My friends got the smash burger and they ranked it the 2nd best in the town. Overall service was quick and they were very polite. We were so excited with lunch we ordered dessert after and got the Creme Brulee and it was a little bland in my opinion. They give you plenty but it needed some sort of sauce drizzle or fruit to really make it outstanding. The beignets were extremely fresh and delicious. I wish it had a berry sauce to dip them in to break up the richness but overall I'd order again. The only down side to this location is the seating area is extremely limited so come early to get a spot and the food feels like a hidden gem when visiting Helen. read more

Small hidden spot outside of town. Was still able to accommodate our part of 7. Looks like a 2 person team but they rocked rush hour! Our food was hot and fresh. Lots of flavor. Absolutely no complaints. You get a lot of food for the price. The customer service was outstanding. Dude always has a smile on his face. You can definitely tell they take a lot of pride in this gem of a place. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the river. Saw some trout and a duck. Kids were able to run off some energy. My latte was made exactly how I requested and honestly, it's been the best I've found so far in town. No bathrooms but the store next door didn't mind us using theirs. Hoochee's just opened this past January and it's the only place in Helen that you can get breakfast and coffee before 8AM. They open at 6AM every day except Wednesday. They have the big cathead biscuits and you can add different meats, eggs, cheese, etc. Hoochee's also has an interesting mix of different breakfast options other than just biscuit sandwiches, as well as a big lunch menu. My biscuits and gravy were good and I also enjoyed the sausage and cheese biscuit. I wish the coffee cups were bigger as I want a large coffee at 6AM, but that's my only complaint. I'll be visiting Hoochee's often when I'm camping in Helen. read more

We literally dropped off Alt 75 to grab gas really quick and my daughter was starving. I was positive a tiny roadside cafe wouldn't be that good, but then we saw the sign with all their awards, looked it up on Yelp and immediately went in. The staff is incredibly helpful to new people, the person in the kitchen came out specifically to tell us about the food and it wasn't super busy. It's located right on a little creek and and they have picnic tables to eat at on a little deck overlooking the creek. The Buddha burger with the candied bacon jalapeno chutney was INSANE. The sweetness balanced out the savory of the cheese and burger patties, it was not too greasy, but still soooo everything you want in a smash burger. You can watch my son's Hot Hoochie chicken sandwich review - he ate every bite! My daughter loved her regular smash burger too! There is a place (Burger Que) that did smash burgers in Fort Myers, FL, where we're from (evacuated for the hurricane) whose owner died in a car accident a few years ago that was a friend of mine - and i haven't enjoyed a smash burger that was comparable since. Makes me think of Timothy Mankin We literally hit the lottery stopping at this gas station and i hope you hit up this incredibly delicious cafe on the side of the road next to the Chattahoochee River. read more

Coming down from Unicoi, it is straight ahead, don't skip it! This tiny spot is packed with amazing flavor. I am always searching for the best biscuit and gravy and this absolutely met the mark! A giant biscuit with homemade gravy for $5.50 a steal and so melt in your mouth! Service was by the owner, friendly, and full of kind words about the restaurant and Helen. Fathead biscuits are made with love, I could see the flour on the bottom! The gravy was absolutely homemade, like my grandmother never made, because she would have used a pioneer mix.
