I have been going to the Honky Tonk Saloon for over 8 years and recently new management has made some fatal business decisions in attempt to make more revenue. This new management has removed 50% of all seating. It does create more dance space, however this space is now taken by customers with drinks standing against the wall on the dance floor. This is because of the lack of seating. There is now a VIP section of seating, which will cost a $100 per table. Again, nobody is lining up to pay $100 to sit there. Customers are just standing around anywhere and everywhere creating a shoulder to shoulder mosh pit. The smoking section is all railed off, leaving one way in and one way out. Customer now have to walk around half of the building to get to the entrance. They block the main entrance so you have to walk the length of the building and go past the main entrance to get to your car. This has to be a fire code violation. Main entrances can not be blocked or barricaded off with any obstruction. I have never seen management making there customers uncomfortable by removing seating and charging a lot of money in a section that will not be used. No drinks on the dance floor is a basic rule at any dance hall. It's just common sense so that nobody slips and falls and then lawsuits fly. The increase of customers standing on the dance floor with drinks has significantly increased due to lack of seating. The D.J's they have on Friday nights does not know country music and what songs to play to get the regulars and those who would like to learn to dance on the dance floor and try to keep them there. The dance floor is often cleared of all dancers and with no seating available, a mosh pit of shoulder to shoulder people bumping and tripping into each other starts. One exit door near the dance floor is constantly opened for the new smoking area. This makes the inside of the Honky Tonk uncomfortably warm and the A/C unit to run continually or the new management just turns it off. Not sure which one. But is very warm and feels like there is no A/C at all. The managerial changes that are taking place at the Honky Tonk are more than likely to get the doors closed on this place permanently. I don't feel that the new management knows how to manage a dance hall nor cares about the patrons who create business. It concerns me as I been enjoying the Honky Tonk for a very long time and the 50 other regulars who have been attending the Honky Tonk every weekend as well. We will surely miss this place when the it goes out of business. read more

in the last week A young girl was dropped to the floor by a male and hit her head. As a RN I immediately went to her to evaluate. She reported serious health issues and I asked for 911 to be called and to clear the area. One of the bar top dancing girls thought it best to tell the highly anxious hurt girl that she didn't have to go to the hospital to be evaluated, because I guess being a slut dancing on the bar top made her a medical expert. I asked her to back off and she refused, then the owners wanted to have me arrested for standing by the hurt girl..i told them I wasn't leaving until a paramedic took my place as an RN, and they tried to call the police on me for doing my due diligence. Additionally, so many people walked away from this saloon intoxicated then to drive and the owners/staff are very much aware and allow alcohol to be taken outside the bar to vehicles, as they watched and made it ok. Someone is going to kill someone soon if not already done. Not to mention. Two "men " representing the facility put their hands on me saying I was making things worse by calming the girl. Because their waitress tried to tell the girl to not go to the hospital to be checked out, despite the girl being highly anxious and concerned about her medical conditions . The2 men tried to forcefully remove me, by grabbing my arm, from the girl in distress, mind you they did nothing to help her. They were only worried about their liability and not the health status of the girl! Needles to say, I told them my full name to give to the police because I was helping the girl and they didn't care to help her. Once I was relieved by a paramedic I graciously walked away and will not return read more

Recently, they just hired a new girl to get the crowd going. I heard her name is Tanya. Very loud and obscene to say the least. She sits at the dj booth with her legs spread, spitting shots from her mouth to customers mouths and if you are celebrating a birthday...she will literally rip the shirt off of whoever's birthday it is. These actions have repercussions. I dont know who hired her or even why, but I do not care for her antics. Tanya is very annoying when she talks over music that is playing. The honky tonk does not need someone like her. Market street saloon failed not once but twice and it catered to hyped up crowds and customers encouraged to dance on the bar. It's all fun and games til someone gets hurt. I would sure hate for the honky tonk saloon to shut their doors like the one in down town Charleston due to reckless acts by employees who encourage that behavior. read more

This place is so much fun! Me and my bestie had such a fun time. The DJ is 10/10 and the atmosphere is super welcoming. The line dancing is such an experience and we went from nervously trying out this place to going twice a week. It helps that we had the best server I have literally ever had, Kat. She helped us when we showed up early, my drink never stayed empty for longer than 3 minutes and by the end of the night she was the bar-mom you always wanted when I asked for water lol read more

A couple of my old sorority sisters from college came to town for a visit and we all went to Honkytonk Saloon...We had the the BEST time!! Our waitress Ashley was absolutely AMAZING! She was incredibly sweet, so helpful, and went out of her way to cater all of our needs. My sisters will be back again next year for another visit and we will definitely be making another visit to the saloon to get our Honkytonk on! read more

This place has it all. Huge dance floor, nice sound system, Delicious food, Pool tables, several different areas to get your drinks from, outside smoking with chairs /tables. Amazing bar. Best one I've been to in Charleston. Great atmosphere, friendly staff who make you feel at home, good food and great prices. From the pool tables to the dance floor, definitely hard to not have a good time. Mechanical bull's are always a plus and the saloon girls do a good job keeping a cold one nearby. DJ Becky plays non-country music for non-country dancing people. Saturdays now suck and people start leaving early because of her. We need a DJ that plays music everyone wants to hear not just one little obnoxious crowd of people. We won't be back unless this changes. Food was pretty dang good. I got the Cowboy Classic and Jalapeño poppers, would definitely recommend. Plenty of things to do in the bar: line dancing, pool, and cornhole were all awesome.
