#03 Sub Shrimp Egg Foo Young
    Che C.

I was in the neighborhood and came across Hong Luck on DoorDash. I ordered the shrimp egg foo young combination platter, which came with sauce on the side, white rice, and an egg roll. I also added a can of soda to my order. The food was amazing! I really appreciated the option to have the sauce on the side. The portion was generous--I had enough for leftovers the next day. The egg foo young was packed with flavor, and the rice was cooked perfectly. I highly recommend Hong Luck and will definitely order again!

Been coming for a couple of years now and I am never disappointed. No bar drinks for me today, but trust me, the bar is ALWAYS 10/10! I went outside of my comfort zone today and tried the roast pork egg fu yung. The brown gravy alone is soooo savory and just downright good. Service is always great. Always something good on the tv. Such a great local spot!

Was in search of an old school Chinese restaurant and I found it! The drinks were delicious! The wonton soup was awesome, a dark broth loaded with scallions and pork strips. The wontons were delectable. The chicken in foil brought back the memories of days gone by. These are so hard to find nowadays, and so worth the trip. Dumplings were good. This place has not lost the meaning of value. The combo platters come with soup, egg roll, meal, rice and dessert! Everything was old school authentic and tasty. Service was able to keep up even though they were busy. Super friendly and helpful. Inside was old school, the Chinese zodiac placemats, the tiki booths, and pufferfish lights! A wonderful experience.

We were in the area and in the mood for Chinese food...We searched on Yelp and came across Hong Luck. In the pictures the booths looked super cute and intimate with the bamboo curtains. When we pulled up, we were like, this used to be a diner...lol. And when we walked in, it still looked like a diner but they just put the bamboo curtains up at the booths. When you walk in, to the right is the "bar", and to the left is seating. When we got there it was super quiet. We were the only ones seated in the dining area. Because of this we heard ALL of the conversations of the servers at the hostess station. They could have had some music in the restaurant for some ambience. When we left there were a few more tables seated but it still seems awfully quiet except for the staff's conversations. We were hungry, but weren't sure what to have. We asked our server what was most popular on the menu. Their menu did read like a diner menu for a Chinese restaurant as there were so many options. She suggested the steak kabobs and a few of the entrees. We ended up getting the steak kabobs and the mandarin chicken. The server brought out complimentary wontons and two sauces. One was almost like a mustard/wasabi sauce. Very spicy, but a little of it was very good. Then she brought out the steak kabobs. There were 4 kabobs. They didn't look the most appealing, but the flavor was great. They were almost like a burnt tip. As they were burnt and a bit crispy on the outside, but super tender and juicy on the inside. Dipped in the spicy sauce really made them even better. There was pineapple also on the kabobs. Then she brought out our entree. The mandarin chicken was the perfect amount of crisp and meat. It wasn't overly citrusy but had good flavor. It could have used just a tad more sauce to mix with the rice. But overall very very good. What the ambience lacked was definitely made up by the food. We would go again and try some other dishes.

I have been coming to this restaurant for almost 2 years and I truly love this rare gem. The cocktails, combination platter meals, fried rice, the friendly owner and the staff are all phenomenal. The reason for this post is because of their 'Specials' and eating this succulent Spicy Garlic Boneless Rib Sliders & Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice because I could kiss the person who created this!! Who thinks of some of these combinations because they are a grand slam of flavor! The prices are reasonable for every menu item including the cocktails which are usually balanced. We know that when we walk into this intimate dive bar/tiki restaurant we will leave full and recharged.

Prices seemed kind of high...but maybe there's higher overhead with a dine in place as opposed to takeout which we usually get.

The decor appears a bit dated, but everything is clean, and the entire ambiance reminds me of home (I'm from Hawaii). The drink and food menus also evoke the islands. There are pupus, a Mauna Loa and a Waikiki (drinks), and a fair selection of other items that are named in honor of places or things in the Hawaiian islands. We ordered combination platters, which include a soup, an egg roll, white or pork fried rice, the entree, and ice cream (vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or orange (I suspect this last one is a sherbet)). I ordered the sesame chicken combination platter with wonton soup, pork friend rice, and vanilla ice cream (all pictured). It was delicious, and it was a great value for the cost. The staff were friendly, and the food came out very quickly. While i didn't see any other Asian customers, all of the staff appeared to be Asian, and the food really did remind me of home. It's definitely a new favorite of mine, and I look forward to coming back to try new things in the future.

Love this place, never had an issue with food or service, Kathy is super nice as well as her son and daughter who generally are either bartending or taking orders, they make you feel like family and friends, the food is always great and fresh/hot and the drinks are excellent, the bar has a great chill atmosphere....If I can eat there everyday I would.

We wanted to have after-dinner cocktails in a chill space, so we searched on our phones & saw Paradise Lost address via Google. We proceeded to walk down & was unable to find the establishment due to their being no front sign. After walking back & forth a few times, we saw another group walking towards the door & they confirmed the place. We walked inside the front door pressed a "doorbell" & lo & behold we gained entry after the previous group went inside. Definitely an incognito entrance. Once inside that door there is someone to greet you, & take your information. There is a forest/ grass/ jungle-looking foyer/ hallway we walked down to get to the next door. Before we knew it, we were near the "Paradise Lost No Vacancy" neon sign w/ an arrow pointing towards the snake-shaped knob door. It gets opened & a supercool speakeasy awaits.... Paradise Lost has mixed style table / seating arrangements throughout the place. A bar seating section, booth-style seating area, lounge- style seating area, etc. We got there a little after 7pm, so the afterwork crowd was in full swing. Paradise Lost has interesting atmosphere. At times a Gothic / Medieval Vibe, meets place w/ shipwreck decor, meets eleganct /club vibe w/ beautiful ceiling lighting, etc. Music played in the background. Staff are friendly, energetic, & attentive. We were pleasantly overwhelmed w/ the vast selection of tiki cocktails that were on the menu. Paradise Lost also have an intimate selection of snacks/ food menu items. This included Popcorn, Tater Tots, Devilled Eggs Rangoon Dip, etc. We ordered some cocktails served in unique tiki mugs & a bucket of popcorn to munch on w/ our drinks. The popcorn is flavored w/ Sea Buckthorn & Browm Butter, which gave it an special flavor profile. Our cocktails were well-prepared & nice & strong. Paradise Lost has individual unisex bathroom stalls & a communal vanity & sink area. The bathroom stalls have spooky voices coming from a speaker as you use the bathroom. I was so humorously taken aback, it had me laughing when I came out...Definitely a different thing to experience in the bathroom - lol. Before we left we watched one of the bartenders do a cocktail "fire" presentation for some patrons in a booth seated area. Wow.... Paradise Lost accepts walk-ins only, no reservations. Paradise Lost accepts groups of 8 or less, unless you are requesting to book the space for a private event. Ages 21+ paradiselost.nyc @paradiselostnyc Paradise Lost is open everyday - 5pm-2am.

It's located next to Heffe tacos and the food menu comes from there though you can order with your tab thankfully since otherwise heffe is cash only. My friends enjoyed their food, getting tacos and empanadas. My drink was tasty, it was a frozen margarita made without alcohol (essentially a frozen limeade slushy) and I understood it might come at the same price as the regular (it did). I would love it if they had a menu item specifically called out as a mocktail even for a dollar or two cheaper like many restaurants but I get it. The music kept dying out with the bluetooth speaker system they had going. It was a little loud at times but we were sitting right next to it. The DJ left when we came, so maybe that's a fun addition, wouldn't really know though. Unfortunately (and it was possibly our own mistake) we did end up accidentally double tipping (40%) so it was pretty expensive for this and a water bottle. My part of the bill came up to 22.40$ for the frozen marg ($13)+ water bottle ($3) + our accidental double gratuity. They do have automatic gratuity of 20% which I support, just make sure you really read the bill when they come around with the card reader you make sure the math adds up. We did feel comfortable hanging out for a while though considering all that. The vibe of it is cute, and we had a pleasant time underneath the canopy of the tree while it drizzled, they did move all our tables and chairs after they offered us better seating for a better vibe. The string lights are always nice. I might not visit again considering the other options around here but I can see how it's a great addition to the neighborhood and how friendly all the staff were. I'll check back on other yelpers experience though! They are still testing out the menu so it sounded like they were trying a couple different kinds of drinks, so maybe if you're here in the next week or so after their weekend grand opening check if there's anything off the menu.

She was super friendly and personable.... Unfortunately, we went back today for Labor Day and it was almost embarrassing. If you wanted a decent drink you needed to be a friend or say you were with with a dj, etc. We got another rum punch and it was straight yellow, no fresh fruit aside from a small green pineapple triangle..., it tasted like straight canned pineapple juice, was mostly ice. I didn't even want to drink it, let the bf drink it all. Like I said, unless you were a friend, etc, your drinks aren't gonna be great, it's a really cool "backyard" vibe until the service is meh. I hope it gets better next year, consistently, because it was really nice earlier this summer, but got way too lax as the season went on.

The toasted peppercorn notes paired very well with the rest of the drink. I'm not usually one to enjoy mezcal but I actually really liked this drink. I was really surprised and impressed by that.
