Everybody in the area calls it Mary's so you could get a little confused which chip shop I am talking about.
Mary's is a very unique cross between a good old English Chippy and a Chinese Take Away. They have a Pukka Pies sign outside and the warming cabinets are filled with Fish and pies and fried Chicken and fritters and sausages like any other regular Chippy. However they also have an extensive Chinese menu which is all cooked to order in the back.
It is a real family business. With Mary in the front who can talk for China once she gets started and she knows all the gossip.
In the back is Mr Mary (which is what I call him) who cooks the food and then the young son does the delivery orders. The Chinese menu is very good and at good prices. I love the King Prawn and Chicken curry which is £4.50 with Chips or rice. You get loads and it will easily do 2 people.
The Chips are typical Chinese chips. I don't know what they do differently to make them taste different but they are perfect and the batter is gorgeous too, very light and not greasy at all.
You can ring up and order the food for collection or pay an extra £1 for it to be delivered.
They are open at lunchtime and in the evenings but it is always busy so get there early or you may have to wait a while. read more
