This isn't normally my 'go-to' for Chinese food in Cape Breton (Yes, I have one!) But, this is where my mother suggested we go for lunch! And, as usual, she was right (don't tell her I told you that though) Big menu with lots of options, with 12 combination plates that are paired deliciously and priced very, very, reasonably. We shared the wontons to start. They were so light and crispy and they come with a big side of sweet and sour sauce; so you won't run out! I order a combination plate and mixed it up a little - I had the honey garlic ribs and the chicken soo guy. The ribs were big and meaty, the soo guy wasn't the best I've ever had, but it was still pretty good. I came here with my partner on our day out to sydney. Sat in and ate. Food came out very quickly - waitress was the best part of the meal. She checked up on us multiple times while we lied and told her it was good. The food seemed dry, and resembled something that was prevously cooked. Gave two stars for the waitress. The extra plate we had I noticed had some residue on it. My partner didn't enjoy it at all. read more

We were a group of 8 and our meals came one at a time in the spread of about 15min. It would be nice to be serve at the same time. Their sweet and sour sauce is totally tasteless and the chicken ball are all dough. I ordered an extra meat eggroll. it was so over cooked it was almost burned and the meat inside was like a little burned turd. I know its Sydney and the choice of Chinese restaurant are limited so if that's the best it has to offer, its not very much. We'll never go there again. read more

Hong fa has lost alot of thier customer's lately due to the customer service from the older woman who has been working cash since they started.This time it was an all time low.We ordered a day after christmas around 4pm -they closed at 8pm.They messed up near all the food on the order -which was priced at $90 cash.They stated the seaweed soup from thier authentic menu can be ordered with chicken/pork or just seaweeed-which is a lie because the menu clearly states Chicken/Pork WITH seaweed soup,meaning that just seaweed was not an option.They refused to return this water with seaweed in it saying that the chefs decide what goes in the recipe and what does not...so no meat or ginger or chicken broth?Hardly a soup!Next we had ordered seafood hotpot,NO seafood in it!!!just veggies!tried to say we ordered a "veggie hot pot" which is not on thier menu -then after talking with the cooks said that he forgot to put the seafood in it.Wow.finally we get to the szchewan peppercorn steak to which they explained that szchewan and cantonese basically mean the same thing to the chefs -ummmm...no.why would they have different names and be on completly different menus?so to top this off we found an onion peel in the vegetables for the sweet and sour fish to which me 5yr old brother choked on which they asked to see then thew it in the garbage then that trash bag thrown in the dumpster out back -yes,they did this in front of us while my mother was asking for it back!They said it was safe yet they got rid of it like it never existed.The older woman there literally started yelling at my mother saying "it's not our fault the kid choked on it".In the end my mother was so upset she left and did not het any replacements for the food she ordered.Not only that they swore at her as she was leaving the door.Absolutly terrible customer service.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! read more

Highly disappointed in the service at Hong fa. I eat here every so often and never had an issue.. BUT the last few times I've ordered takeout from here it was horrible. I spent 17$ on a dish (chicken with vermicelli noodles) with delivery on Christmas eve. I made sure to call in early around 3:00 as I know most places close at 5. The food came in after an hour and a half of calling, and when I opened the box it was some noodles and shrimp and pieces of pork with vegetables thrown together! It literally looked like they grabbed whatever they had and threw it in the box. I still got charged for a chicken vermicelli. Normally I would suffer through and eat it because I was so hungry and was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt as it was Christmas... but one problem.. I don't eat pork!!!!!! So the whole thing went straight in the garbage and I was out 17$. I tried to call the restaurant by the time it got there and it sounded like someone kept picking up and hanging up? Someone picked me up and we drove by and they were closed. That was the worst experience I had with this restaurant. But before that when I ordered chicken vermicelli a month or so ago it looked like there was mold on my food? I never leave reviews but this experience called for one. Don't order anything that's not a special and you probably won't have this problem. read more

For years I drove by this restaurant, and frequented a couple of other chinese restaurants in the area, until I was given a gift certificate for Hong Fa - I regret not visiting here sooner. The portions are the biggest in the area, and the prices are excellent. Service is quick, interior is a bit dull but that isn't something that bothers me. It's close to the downtown and a great stop if you're on the way to the movies or an event at Centre 200. I definitely recommend Hong Fa! read more
