VI is a nice guy but I don't think he honest. He wasted weeks of my time and cost me hundreds more than I needed. I brought my car in for a valve adjustment and to clean my idle control valve. I picked it up and paid him and he told me that cleaning the idle control valve did not address the issue and I would need a new one. He also told me that I needed to get some power steering fluid. When I went to refill my power steering fluid, the left side of the engine was covered in a liquid. I called Vi because I was concerned there may be a leak and he told me that he accidentally spilled power steering fluid on the engine bay. The same day I got a p2646 VTech code. I checked the VTech connectors and they had liquid in them, likely the spilled power steering fluid. I tried cleaning the connectors and it didn't fix the code. I bought new connectors and asked Vi if he could replace the connectors and he told me that he didn't know how to do that. I took the connectors and a new idle control valve to another mechanic. He replaced the connectors to fix my VTech problem. When he went to replace the idle control valve, he noticed it had never been cleaned and cleaned it. That addressed my idle issue, I didn't need a new part. VI spilled power steering fluid on my VTech costing me hundreds in parts and repairs and according to my other mechanic did not do the maintenance I paid him to do. I went back to him and just asked for the half the $280 I paid for both the valve adjustment and idle control valve cleaning and he refused. I gave him an opportunity to make this right and he would do nothing. I'm moving on but leaving this here so others will know to look elsewhere. read more

VERY BAD EXPERIENCE!! Arrived at the location at 9:45am to pick up a truck. The lady who helped me said I needed a code, which UHAUL didn't send me any. She went to her office and made me fill up information on the computer and was able to get a key. The truck didn't have a gas when it was picked up, when I informed her and said it was all good as long as I have the picture as proof. I went and put gas, and the gas was just leaking all over. Turned out that the gas tank was cut opened (says the tech from roadside assistance they sent us). I called the office and they said it's all up to UHAUL whatever they want to do with us. Called UHAUL, and they made us wait for someone to fix it. kept asking them if I could just leave the truck and they'll just send someone to pick it up. But they said "NOPE, WAIT UNTIL THE technician fix the gas tank." SPENT 4 HOURS IN THE PARKING LOT OF A GASOLINE STATION UNTIL IT WAS FIXED. I ASKED THEM FOR A COMPENSATION OF THE TIME WASTED, THEY OFFERED $50 and said that UHAUL is responsible for any other compensation. I, THEN ASKED UHAUL. THEY SAID IT'S UP TO HONDACRAFT TO GIVE ME ANY OTHER COMPENSATION. Ridiculous!!! THEY DON'T CHECK THEIR TRUCKS BEFORE RENTING OUT TO THIS LOCATION. I needed to have a new radiator installed in an older Honda Odyssey and remembered I'd had a friend who always took her Honda to Hondacraft. So I went to see if they could do the job, get a cost estimate, and, perhaps, receive some advice. Upon my arrival, Vi, the owner of Hondacraft, welcomed me as a potential customer, recommended that I buy a radiator on the Internet and quoted me a very competitive price for just the installation work. This turned out to be a really cost-effective way to go. I ordered the radiator (a CSF 2604 from CarParts.com). Meanwhile, I studied various YouTube videos showing how to perform this particular installation and concluded it wouldn't be wise to attempt the job myself. So, the morning after my new part arrived, Vi did the installation for me immediately. Everything was as we had discussed and there were no surprises. This lifted a big worry off of my shoulders and I couldn't have been happier. Vi had warned me that if I didn't replace the radiator as soon as possible, the overheating resulting from failure of the original radiator could cause other components to fail, leading to a need for much more expensive repairs. So, I was grateful he was able to steer me in the right direction and complete the install so promptly. For me, the bottom line is that I wouldn't hesitate to go to Hondacraft in the future, and I recommend it to anyone else who's looking for good value and prompt, knowledgeable, competent service! read more

After my latest service at the dealership, the service advisor informed me I would need a new battery soon. Mine was the original OEM battery and has served me well for over 5 1/2 years. He recommended I get it changed at Sears since the dealership charges a ridiculous amount. Heeding his advice, I hopped onto yelp to check out how yelpers rated the Sears Automotive in my area. Unfortunately it was only rated 2.5 stars and the major complaint was long waits of 2-3 hours for a battery change. Therefore I kept searching for mechanics in my area and came across Hondacraft because of the rating and the name just sounds cool! I called and spoke to Manoa, he was very polite and took my information. He said he would call me back once he estimates how much it would cost. Strangely enough none of them were being worked on which I guessed was fine since it was towards the end of the day(4:30pm), plus the mechanic(s) would be free. They then went to work, removed my old battery, and installed the new one. 20 minutes later I paid, shook Manoa's hand for his excellent service, and drove off. Thank you Yelp! Hate to say it, but my experience was like Chris B.'s, i.e., not good at all. I went on the recommendation of a friend. The dealer gave me a list of recommended fixes, so I gave the list to Hondacraft, and asked them to do the ones they thought were necessary. When I picked up my car the next day (they ran a day late), the car ran sluggish and the steering column was tight. Their response was that I should do my 90K service - but I had just done it at the dealer the day before dropping it off. I asked them to look at it again, and dropped it off for two more days. When I picked it up, some of the problems were fixed, but the car still has problems and doesn't run as well as it used it. When I spoke with the owner, he asked for proof. Am I supposed to produce a video tape or audio recording? So it's on to another shop or back to the dealer for me. Summary: Steer clear of this place or your car might regret it. read more

I've been coming here for years and recommend it to friends. Recently I brought my car in for a smog check, and it couldn't be completed because my brakes were going bad. I had wanted to wait on the brakes because I was out of work, but they fixed my brakes in order to complete the smog and said to pay them when I can. I just started a job and will pay them back soon! This is not a fancy repair shop with doughnuts, tea, and scones, or even such luxuries as appointments. They are a shop that does good work for reasonable prices. I recommend just driving up and heading into the office. I especially like dealing with Vi. My 1990 Honda Civic hatchback has 380K miles on it, and they've kept it going over the years, with everything from oil changes to an engine replacement. I've also brought my son's 1998 Civic in for various things, including transmission and clutch replacement. They take cash, check, or credit cards. They have a restroom, though not the prettiest. It's about a ten-minute walk from Sunnyvale Caltrain station or downtown Sunnyvale restaurants. read more

Not so happy with the service I got here. I went here for my 60K service. I asked them not to change my oil because I just had it done. When I picked up my car I was happy to see the price was very good, a few miles later I found my oil light flashing, much to my dismay I found no oil in my engine. Based on the reviews , I decided to get service done here , Just adding to positive reviews, Vi & Julio at Hondacraft run a great shop. My 96 Civic was showing up check engine light. And after running OBD , O2 sensor replacement was needed. I researched online about the average costs for the part and approached Vi with details. His price quotes for parts were very close to online retailers!! And labor charges were very reasonable compared to other shops I have been to in the past. (Dealers quoted 200% of the estimate!!!) Vi was patient enough to explain all the repairs to me and how much it would cost.Highly recommend Hondacraft for any Japanese Car Services. This place is definitely a place to stay away from! I came in to do an oil change and tire rotation. I brought in my own oil and filter and they told me it was going to be cheaper. As they had my car on the lift, the lady technician asked me "How much of the oil does your car take?" I totally understand if it's a completely different make such as a Toyota or Kia, but as a shop that has Honda in the name I figured you would know how much would go in a Honda Civic. I say 4.2Qts is needed and the owner says to the lady technician to "Put 4.5, cause it's gonna burn some oil anyways". I put my foot down and said "No, you're gonna put 4.2qts and nothing more or less." After rotating my tires incorrectly, the lady tech puts down my car, and says I'm all good to go. Not only did they not run the new oil in my engine and check the oil levels, they did NOT even torque my wheels!!!! I asked the lady tech if she had a torque wrench and she said that her boss said as long as she uses the air gun, it should be torqued. I sternly asked, " Do you have a torque wrench in this shop or not?" The lady tech gave me not 1, not 2, but 3 breaker bars before she asked me for help locating the torque wrench I was looking for! I finally found a torque wrench in one of their drawers since she asked me to help and found that 4 of my lug nuts were so far from 85 ft lbs. It took quite a few rotations to hear the clicks. After doing this for her, she said "I didn't know you were suppose to do that, you learn something new everyday!" I previously asked her and she said she has been working here for the past 7 years....... After all this, they said the charge was going to be $40. $40?!? To get my hands and knees dirty in your shop because your tech doesn't know what a torque wrench is? Or how to properly rotate tires and torque them? Or how I as a customer had to add more oil into my own engine in your shop because you guys didn't add enough?! Please folks, get your act together. If you're not familiar with cars, don't go here. I'd rather take it to a dealer where I know quality work is what gets sent out. Only reason why I came here was because my neighborhood is really quiet and they've let me know that it's a disturbance to them when I work on my car. I did the work by myself here, and because I had to keep correctly the wrongs the tech was doing, an easy 20-30 min job tops, took over 45 mins. Real waste of time and horrible work. The fact this place is still operating is truly astonishing and I hope they get audited at some point to expose the lack of knowledge that this shop runs off of. read more

This all started when this guy ("K") backed his car into the front of mine, which knocked off the front license plate. He wanted to try to get this settled without going through our insurance & said he'd pay for my license plate to be hung back on. I took my car into a body shop for a recommendation, but K didn't like what they had to say (I need a new bumper), so he looks into other options, & tells me to make an appointment to see Vi at Hondacraft. So, I brought my car in for Vi to look at the other morning. He looks at it & initially says that he can put the license plate back on. So, K,who had met me there, leaves & tells Vi to call him when it's done so he can come settle the bill. However, once Vi gets my car up on the rack & looks at it again, he tells me to come take a look (I was waiting around) & shows me that both plastic brackets are broken. I asked him if he could do it & what kind of guarantee he could give me for his work. He told me he could hang it back on, but it'd probably last for a few months, that what I really needed was a new bumper. Not acceptable! (and exactly what the other place had said) I just bought this car brand new last year, & plan on keeping it for a long time & don't need to be wasting time making extra trips in for repairs. I need this done right. So, I told Vi that we needed to bring K back, & he could also tell K the same thing he just told me (I'm sure K would rather hear it from Vi than me). K still kept trying to tell us how he thought it could be done, but in the end, he finally agreed to just have everything go through insurance. So, we got on the phone & filed a report through insurance, then K left. Before I left, I went to thank Vi. This is my first review on yelp, and it's because of this experience. After much search, I thought I had found a place to take my car for regular maintenance. The owner Manao, seemed very knowledgeable and trustworthy. Then, my car started overheating. I took the car in. They "fixed" the leak which was a faulty hose. Two months later, overheating again. They "fixed" the leak which was a faulty gasket. A month later, more overheating! I took it in (for the last time) and they charged me for a faulty temperature gauge. No more HondaCraft for me. Moral of the story: save your money and go somewhere else where they can fix your car the first time. read more

I was referred to Honda Craft by a friend. My check engine light had come on and then wouldn't start. So I bought a new battery thinking that was what it was because the check engine light was not on anymore. When I called and spoke with Manoa I mentioned that I just bought a new battery (It was not starting and I had to get a jump several times. My car was still running funny (put putting acting like it is going to die.) This happens while driving as well as well idling. I mentioned it may be the alternator or the starter because I just bought a new battery. I asked him if he had availability for a full diagnostic he said yes and to bring it in. I picked up my car several hours later and he says after doing it he found nothing wrong. I paid and drove home. It was running worse. Then my engine light came on. So I call him saying that the check engine light came on. He says bring it in but he will have to charge me. I asked why, he says because he needs to run a full diagnostic. I asked him why didn't he do it since I asked him to. His answer was "You said it was the starter and the alternator" so that is what I checked. I have called this shop several times to speak to the owner but have gotten no-where. I am now looking for a new reputable mechanic who can diagnose and fix my car. I suggest that if you value your time, energy and money to go elsewhere. read more

Very happy to have come across this place. I'm new to the area and was in need of replacing the clutch in my car. This came at an awful time because within three days my wife's car blew the head gasket. I priced a couple of places and found that Hondacraft was the most competitive. Three of my family members are auto mechanics back in Michigan and I saw some of the recent previous posts but the price was much better than everywhere else. Most of the time it was just for scheduled maintenance, but we recently had a more serious issue that they were able to diagnose and fix quickly. It is a pity. For a few years, we had what we thought was pretty decent service, and we were glad to support an small repair entrepreneur. Our last two experiences were much less rewarding. After paying over $1200 for a full 60K service on my Honda less than 2 years ago, a recent trip to another mechanic for a different problem identified that the timing belt installed by Hondacraft was installed incorrectly and it was badly frayed. A crank shaft damper spacer was installed backwards, cutting into the belt. In addition, the tensioner had a lock bolt missing, and held only by one other tensioner bolt which also was working itself loose. Poor and sloppy workmanship. This work and other experiences lead me to advise you to avoid Hondacraft and find another reliable mechanic. There are many worthy choices within a 1/2 mile on Evelyn. read more

I've been going to Hondacraft for 14 years now. Vi has worked on many of my cars as well as those of family members, and friends that I've recommended. What do I like about Vi that keeps me coming back? 1) Vi is just a very honest guy, he tells it to you straight. If you've seriously neglected maintaining your vehicle, be realistic and don't shoulder him with your frustrations,he'll work with you to get you back on the road. 2) He's a very capable Honda trained mechanic, though he works on just about all makes, Japanese, foreign and domestic. I am somewhat of a novice mechanic and have found that his diagnosis skills are logical and not just based on guesses. I've had him replace an engine on my van, pull cylinder heads, alternators, timing belts, he does it all. 3) Typically only uses genuine Honda or high quality OEM parts, he doesn't mess around with quick or shady fixes. 4) I have found that his rates are very reasonable and fair, never once I felt that I was over-charged for work that is not needed, he really wants to help keep his customers from work that is unnecessary. I've found that Vi is very understanding in helping out those in need, I've sent many a friend to him for help and he's been a real blessing to them too. 5) I love that he's patient with explaining issues to me as well as offering advice based on his years of experience. In a nutshell, an old school, basic, no frills shop where you go if you want to have a long term relationship with your mechanic. His place can get crowded so be patient if he get's backed up on work. He has my highest recommendations. read more

Hondacraft did a great job repairing my car. They were able to get my car working perfectly. Other shops wouldn't bother with it because it's an old Honda and they suspected it had carbuerator problems and wasn't worth the effort to fix or even diagnose. My Honda is now running the best that it has in years after Hondacraft's repairs. Hondacraft's price was reasonable, much below what other shops suggested. They are also open on Saturdays, a big plus. I see they have some poor reviews, but maybe people with positive results didn't bother to post, whereas if you have a complaint you feel to express it. Hondacraft got my car running again, and running well, when other mechanics shrugged it off. I felt they were miracle workers in my case and I recommend them highly! Have some patience if you have an older car, it might take some time to diagnose the issue, but they really came through for me, and I'm very grateful for the work they put into it. read more

Earlier this year, I wrote about how pleased I was with Hondacraft fixing the brakes on my Honda Odessey. But based on the latest experience, I need to update my review. Yesterday I took my Miata to them as the car ran rough and the "check engine light" came on. After $90 of diagnosis, they determined the problem was that I needed new spark plugs and plug wires, and they charged me $290 total, which I think is pretty steep for that work. Then today, the car repeats the issue, running rough and "check engine light" comes on again. I'm really disappointed in Vi and his new office manager Manoa. I think they were just guessing at the problem, and I think they overcharged me. Pretty poor experience, and while they do fine with mechanical fixes like brakes, I would not recommend them for engine work. read more

My car had problems starting on the first turn of the key so I was driving by Pioneer way and went to Yarnells service center. It was around noon but they said I needed an appointment as they were busy and asked me to come next day morning. I just remembered Hondacraft was nearby so went to them. I told Manoa my problem and asked if they could take a look since it would not take much to figure out the issue. Joe was the guy who checked it, in 5 min he reckoned it was the battery going dead. Installed the new battery in about 7 min, Manoa billed me just $10 for the labor and 20minutes later, I was back in office for my meeting. Fantastic! I'd keep my business with these guys. read more
