Yeah I know there's good and bad!--but I prefer not to shop there if I can help it...) Working employees re-stocking or check out are amazingly friendly and helpful!! My only true complaint is their Tuesday senior citizen discount (62 years and older). Most, if not all of my trips on a Tuesday fail to give me my full discount. Of note here is anything which is not their regular/full price is not included. Several items, which aren't in their flier are discounted 5-10 cents!! This saves the store overall as it isn't included in the senior citizen 10% discount ! But I had $25 of non sale items. No discount. this time I stayed in the parking lot checking my receipt so I headed right back in. I asked can you show me where my senior citizen discount is on here? she looked and said well all these items are on sale and so there is no discount and I said yes, but the last seven items were not on sale. You can clearly see that and she says yes unfortunately our system doesn't recognize that because of all the other items that were on sale. Then she stopped talking didn't offer me anything so I had to ask her so can you adjust this and give me my 10% then? She side look for a calculator to add things up and eventually give me my 10% discount. So if you know your system has that issue why are you explaining it to a senior citizen but not offering to give them the difference right then and there. I shouldn't have to ask for it. So by beware if you go on a Tuesday, always always always check that receipt and ask for the difference if they don't show you any customer service at all as they did me today. Other times which I had not gotten my discount, it was only a dollar or $1.50 difference and it wasn't worth me driving back into town to ask for it.

They do not normally have them pre-made but that means they are made up fresh. The people working here are always friendly as is typically the case with small towns. They have a good variety of fresh produce and plenty of selection of other grocery items and household goods. Their staff is always doing their best to help you find whatever you are looking for, as long as they carry it. They are conveniently located close to downtown Boscobel. Having been in operation for many years now, Piggly Wiggly is definitely a great addition to the town, but I'm not saying anything that locals don't already know!

Nah, just the store along hwy 14 on the westernmost edge of Mazomanie, Wisconsin. And NOT IN the store, but the parking lot. So it's technically NOT about Dollar General at all. And probably only for another week or so. Two weeks ago I happened to stop at this store to get some AAA batteries for my mouse on evening when I took notice of the vegetables out yonder as I returned to my car. This is about the DG, not a fly by night vege hustler offering righteous prices on healthy gazpacho fixins' (which was precisely what I prepared following that initial visit) The DG store too has an impressive grocery selection, to be certain. I have ventured into many a dollar store type place in the last couple decades, and they seem to be stepping up their game. Ages back the stuff inside made me wary of its place of origin and authenticity of labels on the merch. One place about 20 miles north west of this place, I purchase some dirt cheap pasta because I figured a dried noodle is a dried noodle. And it's true. They are dry. That box of pasta when closely inspected didn't have a UPC symbol! Holy F! That might mean one of two things. The first being that it's country of origin isn't on the recognized industrial records of the planet. Or It was like 40+ years old, meaning before EVERYTHING anywhere was stamped with its mark of the beast tattoo! That's like late 70s folks! Cooking those noodles was only done to make a scientific advanced concept that some foods might be worth something following a nuclear event. The strand of spaghetti I tasted from that singular pot O noodles was edible. It wasn't terrible and it wasn't good. But it did sustain the boiling water for 9 minutes and was al dente. It ate it and live to tell about it all these years later. I dumped the rest because I wasn't starving enough to take a chance on possibly some weird E. coli strain was lurking in a certain batch of pasta that had originally been destined for Russia back during the Cold War. Where was I? The beer selection is adequate, as I wasn't looking, I suppose. I can't imagine beer snobs wanting some elitist microbrew are going to find a keeper in a bargain basement outlet for the penny wise. Loads of Starbucks drinks. Energy drinks, Monster mostly. All sorts of familiar cartoon character endorsed cold cereals, none of them some off brand phony ass looking pirate as a fake Capt Crunch in the bunch. Some of nearly everything really. It's like Target only not an overflow of RED. Or the stench of a lidless dumpster, akin to a vast trailer park such as Walmart. No this place is like a tiny car, it has pretty much all the same stuff, just squeezed into a building that can be comfortably dropped right into a large 7-11. As for the daily fresh veges, well as stated that's gonna be gone long before most of you readers get to this final word. Word.

While I am a bit of a purist, I find it a good choice for them to have created a niche for themselves so that they can stay ahead of the curve. They have, however, created a reserve cheddar that is quite nice that we got to try. Hopefully we will be able to get the Eagle Cave reserve soon in the PNW. This creamery is also a carbon creditor through its use of woodchips to create steam to heat the pasteurizer. Or somthing like that. All I know is they are very environmentally concious so good on them!

Turns out Arena Cheese is the home of the original Colby Jack! We ended up passing by there on a recent weekend and I got to experience the place for myself. It's not a large store, but there are good things to be found. They had some great value cheese, especially if you have room for larger portions. There was also a selection of meat sticks, string cheese, and some chilled beverages. If you're nearby and looking to stock up on some cheese, watch for the mouse!

I first learned of this award-winning cheesemaker when it was featured on an episode of Wisconsin Public Television's series, "Wisconsin Foodie". I decided then and there I had to find this factory. It's about a 2-1/2 hour drive from my house, straight across the state on Wisconsin Highway 60. (West of Sauk City, follow Cty B to Mill Road to the store. It's signed.) My first attempt got me here about 15 minutes after the store closed. :( My second attempt got me here in plenty of time! The variety of cheeses available here makes it difficult to choose. Regular dairy cheese, along with sheep and goat milk cheeses are here. (There are some specialty cheeses available from other makers, such as bleu cheese.) I opted for my favorites, Colby and Swiss, an took a chance on a block of garlic cheddar. You'll also find a wide selection of accessories. I purchased a wire cheese slicer with dual widths, thick and thin. There are refrigerator magnets, t-shirts and logo ball caps. Large windows allow you to watch cheese making in progress, as long as you're there early in the day. When you arrive late in the afternoon, as I did, you'll see sparkling clean, stainless steel cheese making equipment. If you arrive after closing time, you can find their product in Plain at the Shell station and at Straka Meats in Plain. (You should visit Straka Meats, anyway, for another gastronomical adventure!) Oh, yes. The garlic cheddar was delicious!
