There is a nice food selection - especially if you're looking for snacks or a light breakfast - including vegetarian-friendly selections. Coffee, wine and beer are available here. My regular cappuccino was good but I was hoping there would be a wider selection of coffee drinks available. More flavors or a seasonal coffee drink/menu would have been nice to see. There's an assortment of boardgames for use inside and a variety of seating options including some small tables outside in front - perfect for people watching! There are events held here so be sure to check them out online to see what is up and coming. They are good about promoting other events happening in town too which is always nice to see. The staff and service was extra friendly although a but on the slower side so plan accordingly if you stop here and are in a mad rush. The owner brought over a cookie free of charge because it took longer than expected to get my cappuccino out to me which I appreciated. Overall this is a lovely addition to Mineral Point!

The mild sticks had just the right amount of hot spicing. The regular meat was processed within 4 days (two days this year), our taxidermist also said the locker folks knew what they were doing when they saved the head for us-plenty of neck and shoulder to give us an excellent full head mount. We'll continue to go back, even if it is almost a two hour trip.

Folklore Village is a cultural and arts center focused on folk arts. She started folk dancing camps in several states and is recognized as a founder of the resurgence in folk dance in the United States. Throughout her life she lived in Germany and visited many other countries, studying folk dance in each. Upon return to Wisconsin, she established Folklore Village on an acre of land that her grandfather has once owned. Folklore Village now comprises the prairie, an acquisition of 94 acres of which 65 is prairie restoration; Plum Grove Church; Wakefield Schoolhouse, which is the one-room schoolhouse on the land Jane originally purchased, and Farwell Hall. They host hundreds of activities and events annually. There are workshops on various topics here: blacksmithing, fiber arts, instrument making, chair caning, dances, concerts, and so on. They have a virtual open mic coming up in September. There is a trail throughout the tall grass prairie. They can host a variety of events from a simple meeting or retreat to a wedding here, as they have a full kitchen and more than one ballroom in Farwell Hall. I wish I lived closer because Folklore Village has a lot of cool things happening. Their folk school sounds like a lot of fun. They have festivals for Scandinavian festival, Cajun dance, English country weekend, and so on. If you're in the area, or just traveling through, definitely take a look at what is happening here that you may be able to get in on. The place is a jewel and having just celebrated its 50th anniversary last year, hopefully will be thriving for another 50 and beyond.

Pleasant Ridge Reserve, the signature cheese of the Uplands Cheese Company, may be one of the…read moresingle most perfect hard cows milk cheese made in the US. A traditionally made cheese in the style of alpine cheeses from southwestern France, Pleasant Ridge Reserve is made only during the months when cows graze on grasses, sweet clover, and wild herbs, giving their milk a depth of flavor not usually found in most cheeses from year-round milkers grazing on silage and grain. This award winning cheese (just go to their website to see how many accolades they've earned...it is simply awesome) is a favorite both here in the Midwest and all over the country. For those of us lucky to live in Chicago, it is on the menu of many local restaurants, who use it both on cheese plates and in more complex dishes. During a recent visit to Hot Chocolate on Damen, for example, I had a Pleasant Ridge Reserve-filled brioche. I think this cheese is better to eat out of hand than to incorporate in a recipe - with heating, many of the subtleties of texture and flavor are lost. Seek it out. And if you do find it in a cheese shop, make sure the piece you get does not touch plastic. Because plastic is the enemy of all cheese. If it must touch plastic, make sure you get it out as soon as possible and put in proper cheese paper or wax paper and foil. And eat it right away - it isn't going to get any better in your fridge. Uplands isn't open to the public, but if you call ahead they may just accomodate you. The trip through the lush, rolling hills of southern Wisconsin is an agrarian's dream.
